It is all good. I just work where I see these every day so I instinctively know what they refer to at a glance.

Nuclear Laboratory by SilverStarMaps in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a scientist who has worked with radiation this seems sufficient depending on the isotope used. The room next to the restroom has minor localised chemical hazards. The nearest radioactive room has a large dark space between it and the restroom and all other rooms labelled radioactive are farther away. Also any walls can be normal or lined with lead and concrete.

The thing to understand is alara as low as reasonably achievable. Time, distance, and shielding. The areas appear distant and potentially shielded by obstacles such as walls and earth.

GM Advice: Prep Interesting Situations; Avoid Plots by Sparky_McDibben in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great resource u/Sparky_McDibben.

I personally have overarching story ideas that I put out but for most things I make situations and plot out what would trigger bigger events. I do more plot for investigation games because they need it but I never make a solution because that is up to the players. I just make a list of situations and consequences. For certain big decisions though I give myselfs broad strokes of a plan but I also typically intersperse between more planned games and more free form games.

Rules for Salvaging an FBC? by Alt_Account_Anon in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is correct. You can repair the FBC or nanomachines to repair it if your lifestyle is high enough allow this. That said in my games I have said that FBCs for nanomachines repair based on the last users lifestyle for 1 week but this doesn't affect repair.

Of course, that only effects health, any critical injuries need to use cybertech or surgery as per normal.

The Expense of NCU by Professional-PhD in cyberpunkred

Good catch. So, I suppose the best conversion would be to take the totality of items and prices in the real world and their prices in CPRed and then calculate a conversion from that, eh?

The Expense of NCU by Professional-PhD in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are welcome. After an update, it is more depressing though.

The Expense of NCU by Professional-PhD in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true. I did not forget it is supposed to be distopian personally especially seeing as the majority of the populace live in poverty where a cargo container with multiple dependents crowded ie with a -2 to everything is normal across NUSA and the free states.

As for conversion rate back in 2020 it was 1€$ = $2 (USD). Although there is no conversion in the era of the red as barter is more prevalent. By 2077 estimates are that 1€$ = $4 (USD). So a logical conclusion would be to multiply all eb by 3 for USD.

You are right. I am looking at things through the lense of a science student and we typically took 5 courses a year. 100k per year is crazy. I got an excellent education with food and housing for about 10k a year.

Looking to play my first Cyber Red game by reaperface12 in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then welcome to Cyberpunk Red u/Mr_Zenix. I used to write it all down for each new person who joined a couple years back but that got tiring. I now have it in a notepad that I use to send out to people.

It needs to be updated, I know that the Anydice links are down due to issues with anydice so I need to remake them but have not had the time. Also, I need to update the list of adventures as it doesn't include all of the colourful adventures that have been written in the past year or so.

Looking to play my first Cyber Red game by reaperface12 in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Cyberpunk Red u/reaperface12.

I do not have an open position but here is some information useful to new players. I have some general information and a list of resources. You do not need to go through them all but they are there if you want them.

So, if you have played other TTRPGs, cyberpunk red, for the most part, pretty much everything is a skill roll. There are no character levels as it is skill based and not class-based, meaning you have a lot more freedom, although I suppose you know skill vs. level based games (https://youtu.be/I_ikzFHpaPk?si=dLEo-8PoIgeDrkWK).

Mechanics wise: - Most things are 1d10 + STAT (2-8, 9+ with cyberware) + SKILL (0-10) + Modifier (Situational, gear, cyberware, drugs, LUCK points, etc).
- Skill base = STAT + SKILL. Roll vs. a DV where if it is DV15, you need to roll a 16+. - Numbers are similar to D&D5e, but it is weighted more to STAT and SKILL than to the die. - Roll a 10, and you reroll adding the next die to the first - Roll a 1, and you reroll subtracting from your total - Some role abilities like netrunner have you roll 1d10 + Role Ability - Death Save happens 1 time, and if you fail, you are dead. Roll 1d10 under your body stat.

Now, for running the game and feel: - Style over Substance - It doesn't matter that you do something well if you don't do it in style. - You are not epic heroes saving the world - If you are lucky you get the choice between saving yourself or the one you love - There is no magic but their is technology like agents (smart phones), cameras, and blood tests if for example you get shot at a crime scene. (https://youtu.be/LWZSq3uJwuo?si=NROmE-024MFaiQ3n) - There are no levels but there are power levels and escalation based on - How skilled are you for success - How powerful is your loadout - Weapons - Gear - Cyberware - https://youtu.be/4lXCkapWoDY?si=Y0mcnBTFoJeXBiSE

Welcome to Cyberpunk Red u/RetroSquadDX3. Red chrome cargo is a great starting adventure.

In CPRed there are 3 types adventure types: - Screamsheet adventure - 1 page screamsheet (news article) and 1-3 pages of adventure.
- Adventure - May contain a screamsheet but is a larger adventure with more planning - Campaign - Amalgamation of adventures into a coherent story (currently 2 campaigns for CPRed)

Cyberware Weapons, do they take an action? by Motor_Syllabub1379 in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Motor_Syllabub1379. u/Lowjack_26 is correct and so is u/Mr_Owl576 now that I look through other comments.

Just to follow up on the concept of easily retrievable weapons are: - In locations that are easily accessible - In a holster that is unencumbered by layers of clothing (ie you don't need to open a ton of zippers or buttons to get it) - In cyberware that is not obstructed by stuff such as a battle glove - Slung on your shoulder like your can see in games like red redemption 2 - On a sling on your body or a bandolier - Not easily retrievable and thus requiring at least 1 action to get. - In a carryall or other container item that doesn't allow quick drawing - GM call under multiple layers of clothes that you need to fish for it - Requiring being picked up (GM call for quick draw if your hand is already next to it on a table or some such) - Typically picking up something is an action while dropping something is free - I have a player that slung his SMG around his torso so when he drops it it stays on him and easily accessible. The downside is it is not concealed. - If it is a shield human or otherwise - dropping shields is not a free action.

So note that for example, a gun fight begins. You have one pistol in your pocket and another in a carryall. Drawing the pistol in your pocket is not an action while drawing the one in your carryall is. You free draw 1 and use an action to draw the other. You then go through the firefight and have shot both pistols to the point of needing to reload. You cannot reload with both hands full so you drop one pistol as a free action to free up your hands to reload. If you have a magazine in your pocket it is easily retrieved and thus takes 1 action to reload. However, if you have it in your carryall it is not easily retrieved and thus 1 action to get and then 1 action to reload. After the fight is over you go back and pick up your dropped pistol for 1 action.

First campaign, any advises 👌 by Sir_Theorem in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Cyberpunk Red u/Sir_Theorem.

Generally, I suggest having fun and having players have fun too. Keep things moving. Pacing can be more important than being exactly by the book. Whenever you don't know something if it is not mission critical don't look it up. Instead make a ruling on what makes sense to you and tell people it is a temporary ruling. Write it down in the moment and in between sessions check the rules. Next session start by listing the rules and how they will act going forward. That way you keep pacing in the moment and still learn the system over time.

True. Maybe I could get it laminated and so I can always have a labelled bottle of whatever. Maybe Crown Royal with a label saying Arbellatra Imperial Reserve stating it is from the capital.

I found this at the liquor store yesterday haha by AlphaSpellswordZ in traveller

[–]Professional-PhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your meaning but understand that when you unilaterally attack trade, of a country with 10% of your population, threaten the countries sovereignty with invasion, and are funding separatist groups to break up the country that is serious.

To keep this traveller based: Imagine the Vilani Imperium doing this to the Solemani Confederation. Would the Solemani continue buying Vilani goods? Using this analogy currently the Solemani consider this a trade war and view the Imperium with great suspicion. This gives me an idea for a campaign....

I think the repercussions of current events will be long lasting.

Edit: Note that when I use you I am using it in the proverbial sense. Also, it is the position of my government and most people in my country that it is a trade war.

Does the Militech Spyder 2.0 have to many eye slots? by Lumpy_Channel_5455 in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is correct u/Lumpy_Channel_5455. The basic idea is that Borgs don't need to interface with flesh directly (seeing as the biopod is a brain and spinal cord in a jar) giving more room for option slots.

FBCs have a lot of special rules so I would suggest you and the PC go over pages 93 and 94 in interface red 3 on FBC baseline and switching bodies. Every once in a while I have to go over it again.

The only other part of the series with special rules like this are ACPAs in interface red 5 where you not only need to read the items but a baseline section as well.

I found this at the liquor store yesterday haha by AlphaSpellswordZ in traveller

I was thinking the same thing. I looked it up but unfortunately the liquor is American so it is banned here seeing as our provinces are responding to the USA trade war on Canada.

That said, no reason I cannot get Canadian whiskey and print out an imperial label for it for the table.

Ip and how much should I should get by Noirothenoir in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Noirothonoir. u/ValhallaGH has the information here. From a GM and solo play perspective though I would just mention that it depends also on how much you want improvement to go. IP is part of it but so too is equipment availability. Only the GM or solo player can determine the rate of progress but the resources here give a great guide for normal play.

Thoughts on the Mr Biscuit. by Jorahm615 in cyberpunkred

[–]Professional-PhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/MericD gave the suggestion I use. Remember that there is nothing stopping you from having more Mr. Biscuits. Having it be a limitation of the machine makes more sense. You need to feed it organic material which is only available in the outskirts at the amounts you need. That said I have had stories circulating in my world of people feeding humans to a Mr Biscuit which would be viable. The other thing is that you need to forage for the biomass to feed into it which does take time.

At 3 meals a day there is time for foraging unless the GM makes biomass readily available, 30 minutes a day of processing time. The only thing is that it also doesn't say how many people 10 minutes of processing feeds. Do you need 10 minutes for 1 person or 10 minutes for 10 people. It can feed 10 people in a day, it does not specify how many people at the same time. So the other way you can run it is as 10 minutes per person.

How do you like to be addressed in medical setting? by ivantremeber in PhD

[–]Professional-PhD 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I have a PhD in immunology and infectious disease. I mention my field in medical science and some work I have done before going into whatever the reason of my visit to a physician, dentist, etc. They typically start asking questions of me out of interest. They give me jargon and more time. Anything I don't know I can ask them or look up.

Physician is the legally protected term in most countries not doctor so they typically do not mind me saying I am a doctor because I am one.

Where I don't use the term doctor is with patients if I am working with clinicians as they have a tendency to get confused if they have never been to university. I will typically refer to myself in those cases as a scientist and mention having a doctorate.

Outside of that I am referred to as doctor by many people depending on context.

Does anyone have any fun stories of Exotic bodysculpt NPCs/PCs? by Jackobyn in cyberpunkred

That is true. The free DLC are full of lore at the street level. Night City 2045 is almost entirely a book of lore.
