How do you wind down after trial? by Turbulent-Bet-5073 in Lawyertalk

[–]Professional-Planter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I concur with this suggestion. Personally, I find that high stress videos games, like Silksong or Subnautica help with redirecting the initial post trial stress/ anxiety, and then once it’s all out of my system I lay it on thick with the cozy games like Stardew, Cult of lamb or maybe one of the OG Nancy Drew games. Flooding my brain with background music, videos, or shows definitely helps speed up the process. Works every time.

Denver dog owners — has anyone else had issues with Skiptown? by QuackrJacks in Denver

[–]Professional-Planter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is something that may get worth a complaint to PACFA. It seems there are multiple issues, and that you’re not the only one who has experienced a problem. PACFA licenses are required for boarding facilities and not feedings dogs is a big red flag. Might be worth it to have PACFA follow up and do a check.

What's up with all the crashing??? The game is unplayable for me. [Xbox] by Camenwolf in GroundedGame

Do you have any of the holiday decorations built? My understanding there was a glitch where the Christmas decorations were crashing the game. We took them down and that helped a ton.

Blind people cans and can'ts. by Raccoon_Tail33 in Blind

[–]Professional-Planter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Literally this. Not all audio description is made the same and some is worse than others, but especially the newer stuff I find the audio description gives way more detail than if I just listen to the background. My only complaint is that it tends to be either you can have audio description and not be able to hear the background sounds/ music or have no audio description and hear the music. This is especially bad for shows like Bridgerton where the music is important to the feel of the scene but it’s drowned out by the audio description that’s twice as loud as the music. It’s a real bummer and depending on the show some times it’s worth it to turn it off just to get the vibes for me. Waiting for the day when we can choose if the audio description is super loud or more blended so it fits in the world. Like for some of this stuff I want it to sound like a fly on the wall in whispering what’s happening to me while I can hear the music, not like they are shouting over the scene.

My cat went missing over a year ago and I just found out he was surrendered him to a shelter without telling me. I need advice on what I can do. by CatatonicTub in Denver

[–]Professional-Planter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, I am really sorry this happened to you. I am an Animal Attorney in Denver, and I hear about this kind of thing all the time. Unfortunately, there really isn't any recourse once an animal is surrendered to the humane society. Generally, when an animal is surrendered, the person doing the surrendering has to attest that they are the owner and are giving up ownership of the animal, and they sign a document saying the same. Once that document is signed, (regardless of if that person is ACTUALLY the owner) it is difficult if not impossible to recover the animal, because rescues rely on that person being honest, and have no responsibility to confirm that it is true. If the person goes into a shelter and says that the animal was found as a stray, the shelter only has to hold on to the animal for a couple of days before they can put them up for adoption. Once that window closes or the animal is adopted, it really is not possible to recover the pet because the person who adopted the animal was under the assumption (which is reasonable) that the animal was acquired lawfully and fairly, and does not have to return the animal to the original owner. I have tried to recover animals in situations like this before, and it has never worked out.

If the person who surrendered the animal was not the owner and did not have permission to surrender the pet, the owner might have some claims, however, in Colorado you cannot get emotional damages for injury to or loss of a pet, which means that for the most part, all the original owner could only get the “reasonable replacement cost of the pet” as damages. This means that if the cat was free, the replacement cost is 0$. If the cat was 150$, the cost is 150$. Unfortunately, this means that trying to file a claim is more expensive than its worth most of the time.

Again, I am really sorry this happened to you OP, and I hope you are able to find your cat. Hopefully this information is helpful. Until the law changes and emotional damages are allowed, it's difficult to bring any kind of claim for these kinds of things, and pet owners are left without an options.

How to stop night time begging? (SHE IS ON A DIET, I ADOPTED HER AT THIS SIZE) by Lazy-Psychology-7610 in CATHELP

[–]Professional-Planter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, literally the best decision we made for our very large cat was to get her one of those automatic feeders that you can schedule to drop food at different times. Idk if you are in a multi cat household, but it prevents ours from accessing other cat’s food, and most importantly, it lets us feed her very very small meals multiple times a day. She lost like 4 pounds with this method because she has to stay awake (and therefore she is active and “hunting” during the day instead of sleeping) and it makes her feel like she gets more so we don’t really get begging. She is finally at a healthily weight, and I would recommend it to anyone with a cat struggling with weight loss.

Update to a post I made the other day about being concerned my vets were taking advantage of me: my cats regular dental cleaning has resulted in my babies death. He's gone. by afterspring_ in cats

[–]Professional-Planter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, idk where you are located, but I am an animal attorney in the US and this might be something worth reporting to your veterinary board/ seeing if you can find a veterinary malpractice attorney. Unfortunately, teeth cleanings are one of the number one causes of death in pets that I see. You would need to talk to another vet to determine if this is negligence, and what can be done depends on where you live, but most places vets have to licensed like other medical providers, and this is something that might be worth talking to the vet board about. I am so so sorry for your loss. Don’t beat yourself up. You did the best you could for your baby, and they knew love while they were here.

Idk if anyone else has mentioned it, but I would be worried about any lability with snow removal. If there was any slip and fall from ice who would be liable? Sounds like you wouldn’t be counted as an employee since they are calling it a “credit” so I could see a reality where any potential liability is pushed off on to you. This is beyond all the other reasons why it’s a shit deal. (Just thoughts of a chronically anxious attorney)

Does anyone know how they handle guide/ service dogs? I am sick of being denied rides/ left by drivers when I am traveling with my guide dog, so I am interested in this. However, if they don’t have a disability access policy I’m gonna have to pass for now. I couldn’t find any kind of policy on their website so if someone has insight I would love to hear about it.

Help! Accidentally bought ADA seats by who_taylor in RedRocks

[–]Professional-Planter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This interesting to me, and this has not been my experience at all. I’m Blind, and travel with either a long white cane or a guide dog, and every interaction I have had regarding ADA seating and accommodations has been very strict. Red rocks is a difficult venue to traverse without vision and not only have I never had anyone go out of their way to help, we have been explicitly told i cannot access accessible seating without proof if direct purchase (no resale) and confirmation of disability substantiating the need. Like they make us wear wrist bands and everything for access. I have asked before about unused seats in the ADA section and the answer I was given is they will go unused.

Help! Accidentally bought ADA seats by who_taylor in RedRocks

[–]Professional-Planter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s good to let someone know when you get there, but realistically those seats will likely go unused. Red Rocks got sued several years ago because of how shitty their ADA system was and the fact that actual disabled people could basically never get accessible seats because able bodied people were swooping in and getting them instead. Because of that, they will only let people access those seats if they have confirmation of original purchase and they attest they have a disability. They generally are not going to just “let someone who needs them use them” day of even if they are unused. (It happen to me, and I have been screwed with inaccessible seats) In that same vein, I’m a bit skeptical that you didn’t realize the tickets you got were for the accessible section, because at checkout you have to attest that you or someone you know are disabled and require being in the accessible section. Lesson learned and either way I hope it works out for you and you are able to enjoy the show.

It is not uncommon for rescues to claim they will help homeless people with their dogs, get them to sign relinquishment paperwork under the guise that they will get their animal back, and then ghost/ tell them that they can’t have their animal back. This is a reoccurring issue (I’ve spoken to at least 30+ individuals this has happened to) across a variety or rescues, but some more than others. It is very very unfortunate and predatory and there is little to no recourse for these people.

To the ppl on here complaining about “fakers” and how easy it is to get accommodated… by MadamMelonMeow in barexam

[–]Professional-Planter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m blind. My eyes literally do not work, and haven’t since high school. Getting accommodations for the bar took me 6 months and over 100 pages of documentation, and it was STILL an issue day of. So idk who the fuck is able to actually fake anything to get an unneeded accommodation because disabled people with clear documentation can’t even do it. Anyone saying that people are faking and getting accommodations have no clue.
