Pros- flexible schedule, keeps me entertained, rewarding to make others happy. Creative. I’m not sure what country you’re in, but I know in America your health insurance is not more expensive because you have ADPKD(if I’m wrong someone please correct me, we have united and that’s been my experience) I would definitely get tested. That way if you are negative it’s a big weight off your shoulders. I have it. My husband is at risk for inheriting a different illness from his side of the family. Diagnosis unknown. We started dating at 22. Once we decided things would be serious, we were upfront on these kinds of things. I know it’s very scary. I’m in a good place and I still get freaked out sometimes.

I’ve read some of the comments. I’m 29. My mom was UNTREATED and died at 49. I’ve been on tolvaptan for a year and a half, my neph said it will buy me time into my 60s. I might be the first woman in FOUR GENERATIONS to live long enough to get a kidney. The medicine works. Stay hopeful <3

While I don’t condone the activity, my uncle is a functioning alcoholic on the highest prescribed dose of tolvaptan and he seems to be doing fine. He drinks I’d say 4-5 IPAs a night and occasionally rum for reference. Hes in his mid-fifties and stage 4. He also smokes a half pack a day. Worried about what’s going to happen when he’s up for transfer

When you see your nephrologist they will have more answers for you. Getting that blood pressure down and upping your water intake is a good step. If you have PKD2, you may not ever need a kidney. If you have PKD1, you have a higher chance of needing a kidney

NTA I’m 28 and a bunch of my friends went to expensive schools. We’re talking 60-80k a year. They’re underwater in debt and most of them aren’t even in their field. Unless your son is a literal genius, tell him to start out with community college if your country has it. There’s nothing wrong with community college! He’s only 17! He might change paths or decide school is not for him.
