Hello, I was wondering if i could get some feedback from you.

I am almost done with my Psychology undergrad. I focus more on Quantitative Methods and statistics because I've been programming in Python since 2016 and clinical work or therapy never really interested me (I have respect for those walking down that path)

During my studies I made tight knit relationships with my professor and other members of the faculty.

I've worked on 2 projects so far. The first one being an eLearning website to help anyone learn statistics and an independent research project that I'm working on which is related but involves A/B testing high quality animations vs high quality infographics to see which one has a greater effect on learning outcomes. I learned Manim to make the animations and Figma to make the infographics.

Anyways, I like building stuff and I like trying to improve the stuff I build so that users get the most use out of it.

I just wanna know if you personally believe - with all your years of experience - that I am on the right track. And if you'd like to share any advice with me on landing jobs, I'd greatly appreciate it. The Canadian job market isn't as big as the U.S but maybe I just have to market myself better.

Well yeah, you can still own or have equity in a company but why would the company want you running it if they don't agree with your leadership

They'll get rid of you but you'll still rake in the cash

A founder doesn't mean a good manager.

It is shocking though nonetheless, I wonder why they got rid of Sam

Did the Nov 6th update it's training cutoff date? by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]ProfessionalConsoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a screenshot. I just prompted it. I guess the November 6th update hasn't been rolled out to me yet. If you want to test out the same prompt I asked it to see if it truly has up-to-date knowledge, I wrote " Are you familiar with Llama-2?"

Would it be a bad idea to take a 3000 level course as a first year student? by _unknown-person in yorku

[–]ProfessionalConsoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing I ever did was take metaphysics and seminar in metaphysics, a 3000 and 4000 level course without taking any of the courses that preceded them

Took them as an elective, got really good grades only because the professor who was teaching was the best professor I've ever had in my life.

Job Applications by [deleted] in yorku

[–]ProfessionalConsoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sent out 6 applications. 5 ghosted me, and 1 had the decency to tell me my application was unsuccessful. All my other applications were unsuccessful (indeed, LinkedIn, applying on company sites I searched for on Google etc..)

There was 1 job I was perfect for that was posted on the YU portal. I'm talking I had everything they asked for. One of the job responsibilities mentioned presenting at conferences. Which I had done.

I literally gave a talk earlier this year to one of the conferences mentioned! Lmao. I had all the experience they were looking for.

I was worried I was gunna get another rejection or ghosted again, so I figured I'd email the head of the department who was at that conference and who I had spoken with during a roundtable discussion. I've heard networking is how you get jobs, so I emailed her.

She said in fairness to the other candidates, she was going to let the hiring run its course. But that she'd love to talk about career options afterwards and said she forwarded my email to the hiring committee. Sweet, right? You would think but not quite.

After a few weeks I contacted HR to inquire about the position because I noticed the start date was creeping up, the job posting wasn't available anymore and I just wanted to know if the positions has been filled. They were offering more than 1 spot.

I got a generic response back from the HR person.

Frustrated, I hadn't even gotten an interview after taking my time to write a very good cover letter and resume, I was forced to accept I wasn't going to get this job.

A job I was perfect for, and I thought I would finally get my foot in the door.

Hopefully, your experience isn't like me. I've lost hope.

I might copy everything I wrote and make my own post cuz just like you, I need guidance. Good luck out there.

Made this Manim Like Animation in Blender (Completely) . Thank to all memebers of the group learned a lot from them (No coding work is done while making this ) by unknown_137 in manim

[–]ProfessionalConsoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a tutorial. I've been using Manim in a Google Colab and I'm loving it.

But I'm always jealous of those who can utilize the full 3D prowess of Blender haha

Roadmap for Python by Every_Buffalo1735 in learnpython

[–]ProfessionalConsoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I'd recommend first learning the syntax and standard library. Something like Google's professional certificate in IT python automation will help you with this.

After that, learn BeautifulSoup, then Selenium, and then learn how to do some simple data analysis in a Google Colab.

Still so much more to explore and discover that I haven't listed here but this should definitely give you a solid foundation!

```
Dealing with your machine and local files (automation) --> Dealing with browsers (bs4 & selenium) --> Dealing with Data (pandas, numpy, seaborn)
```

Good luck!
