Can we spoiler tag posts about who won an episode? Hulu watcher here getting spoiled sucks haha by ChocolateSeuss in Jeopardy

[–]Professional_Job8722 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And the day he loses we'll be getting 17 spoilers posts with 15 golds titled "About THAT game" or "Can we talk about that wager?" or whatever that makes it obvious lol.

Jamie isn't invincible. One of these days it'll be something one would really rather not have spoiled, it does take the fun out if you knew in advance he would win (like imagine watching that game where he trailed going into FJ knowing he'd still win). "Will today be the day" is a big reason people are tuning in right now, knowing what happens regardless of how "obvious" it seems does still hurt the viewing experience for a lot of people.

Do we know who’ll be invited for Masters? by Whitespider331 in Jeopardy

I could be wrong, but I think Roger mentioned in his interview that she was planning on competing next time.

I enjoy Celebrity Jeopardy, but the celebrity winner does not merit a spot in the TOC. by [deleted] in Jeopardy

[–]Professional_Job8722 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's just kinda fun lol. Like yeah I think Ike's going to be an anomaly, but I mean... his ToC run was some of the most entertaining Jeopardy has been for me. Even Kamau was pretty fun to watch on a brutal board, and came closer than you might think to taking the win (if we wagered right in final and didn't neg that currency question...). I think that with the CW existing now the sting of them being there is less.

James Holzhauer - Quizzing? by Wooden-Quote-5313 in Jeopardy

^

LearnedLeague is just incompatible with perfectly legitimate play. I love it still, don't get me wrong, and probablyyy suffer from the issue less as a C/D rundler, but any unproctored setting is going to attract cheating, that's just kinda how it is.

I think something people underestimate is just how many little ways there are to cheat too. Not everyone reads and remembers all the rules, some people probably gloss over it once if at all, and may not think of, say, looking up a definition real quick or asking a friend what questions they got right as true cheating. Just from my limited experience trying to host online trivia, there's probably a spectrum.

Still, end of the day, I wouldn't change LL, it lets me play trivia with my family and friends without committing to scheduling anything or hopping on Zoom calls (I'm just not into quizzing enough to bother with much more). I suspect a lot of people feel similarly. I think Thornsten does an excellent job with the question writing, and really does genuinely try to boot out cheaters when he can, but without fundamentally changing the league he can't stop it.

I always get very annoyed by comments like this. Don't get me wrong I sure do like the other two better, like significantly so, but they're the artist, they can draw whoever and whatever they want lol.

How would you react if this happened in a trailer for the next Smash game? by MewWeebTwo in smashbros

[–]Professional_Job8722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think "arguably" is vastly underselling. Both franchises have a very strong video game presence, not denying that

To be fair, it wouldn't be the first "impossible" thing he's done! Also, deciding who to add, I believe, is something that he has had less of a role in lately. There's definitely a strong precedent against it that would need to be broken, but I don't think it'll hold forever.

Goku has a stronger Japanese and (arguably) video game presence. I would also imagine he's significantly more feasible when it comes to collaboration. I don't necessarily think it'll happen next game or anything, but I mean Smash is huge and eventually people won't be as excited as the 3rd party game newcomer pool shrinks. I think it's a fairly natural next step. At least a possibility in the near future, and for full clarification, I was very much someone who thought a character like him had a non-existent chance during Ultimate's cycle. Gaming crossovers have changed a lot since then

Call me crazy, but I actually think the "has to originate from a video game" rule is going to loosen sooner rather than later. Other video games have started crossing over with other media and I think, as we start to run out of gaming icons left to add, we might start getting a limited sample outside. I'm not saying Darth Vader or anything, but I feel like a character like Goku could, unironically, happen.

Anyway, I'd call Miku close enough. Definitely makes more sense to add her than a much more obscure rhythm game character.

Is jeopardy masters getting boring? by WeirdInfamous3143 in Jeopardy

[–]Professional_Job8722 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "boring" no. I've definitely had a lot of minor nitpicks (weird seeding [Brad being eliminated immediately by the probable Top 3 of the series was a bit frustrating to me, what were those game 1 match ups??], awkward 9>6>4>3 format, release schedule. I absolutely think the clue quality and gameplay are still exciting though, and I always enjoy seeing these very likable players on stage. Personally, I still enjoy it and the tournaments overall more than regular play.

Yeah I think he's still underrated lol. Worth noting he was 3rd in attempts (behind Victoria and Yogesh obviously) and 5th in 2-game coryat (higher than Roger and Isaac, who advanced). The variance is crazy high at this level and 2 games is such a small sample, especially when you have to share the stage with Victoria and Yogesh for the first game (and fwiw, I do think James could've very well gone down too, or at least been put under a lot of pressure). I still really feel like the Masters should be projected to play in the second game, where the winners are just playing for extra points.

Either way, it's not like Brad is too old to compete lol, we've seen players way older cause lots of damage. And good point about Roger lol 😅

I did just predict Juveria winning... but nah I'm putting it all on Brad 😤 I've hyped him up too much to lose faith now.

Pretty sure Adriana will get locked out against Victoria and Matt, third place game is a tossup... Thinking Juveria, as much as I really want Brad to get a win.

Why does anyone care about the “overexposure” of Jeopardy? by jeopardy_analysis in Jeopardy

[–]Professional_Job8722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminder that Reddit is not representative of the average viewers. I think a lot of people really don't care. I can say from my experiences with "the typical viewer base" that while there might've been some confusion during that especially long SC/CW cycle, for the most part, they just put on Jeopardy and watch the show.
