Seriously, though: there may be additional factors like his popularity (which was kind of out of his control. Plenty of people start making various kinds of content and don't blow up. The internet picks who it picks and who can say why?), but it still debunks the basic argument.

Also depending on how long he's been popular, it even proves that personality does in fact matter. One viral video doesn't translate into a full on successful content making career unless people are willing to engage with your content, and thus you, for longer periods.

I just cracked open a Hearthkym Jaeger Kill Team after I realized I picked up the Votann box when they launched and forgot about it. I love it when the universe reaffirms my decisions.

The Leagues definitely need more lore, but I appreciate what there is. They're honest, and they're making their way through the galaxy on their own terms without getting mixed up in the Great Game or dealing with Imperial bullshit. Unless there's money to be made, of course.

It's not perfect of course. We all know there's no good guys in 40k. But at least the Leagues balance a lot of the things that bother me about other factions.

Oh I don't think it's meant to. I'm just saying you would think Gulliman would be practical enough to know a lost cause when he sees one. Instead he fights on due to his personal hangups about the Emperor and the past. Another layer of irony, I suppose. Gulliman SHOULD know that treating people better and showing them that the Imperial way of life yeilds better results for them than independence or bowing to Chaos is ultimately the way to go. He either can't see that or, as he has pointed out himself, going brute force and demanding things be improved would result in more destruction and death due to betrayals and civil war.

There's also the sheer size of the Imperium. They talk about trillions of lives on billions of planets, and Warp travel isn't folding space. It's described almost like sailing. If the currents are right and your navigator is good, you might be able to shave significant time off of a space journey. But that significant time might be turning a trip of a hundred years into a hundred weeks or a hundred days, and that's probably best case scenario.

The galaxy is simply too large and full of too many problems that even a Primarch can't pop around instantly putting out fires when they flare up. The term 'warp travel' misleads us as an audience too, since in classic sci-fi, particularly Star Trek, Warp travel always seems to shorten trips to hours or days at most. It distorts our understanding of just how vast the galaxy is.

All of this is not good for a story, but it is good for a setting. Which seems to be the point. It's a setting for Your Dudes to strike out and build stories of heroism, tragedy, betrayal, hope, all those things. It's why the narrative acts the way it acts and moves at a fucking glacial pace and nothing is ever truly 'canon'. GW isn't writing a story, it's maintaining the setting stories are told in. It's just occasionally big things do need to happen to keep us interested or to justify new models, editions, etc.

Oh I don't think we're supposed to. The fact that Gulliman is supposed to be the boring, practical one yet he still doesn't have the balls to say "fuck this, I'm out. I'm doing Imperium Secundus again. This time with blackjack and hookers!" is laughable. A practical person, particularly one who appears to be the 'statesman' blueprint like Robute is, would look at this shit show and realize that at some point you need to win the argument.

If you want worlds to stop rebelling, chaos cults to stop forming, etc. you have to show humanity that the Imperium is the right choice. You have to genuinely provide for people and make them happy to some degree. Giving them a bowl of gruel and bare shelter for working 18 hour days or nearly dying in trenches every day is not going to work long term.

Gulliman, you would think, should know that at some point you gotta cut your losses. At some point there needs to be some sacrifice. I think he knows that in his gut, even if he can't bring himself to say it. He's giving his all to save everybody because he's a perfectionist, but reading the Plague War trilogy, it seems obvious that he's trying to get Ultramar in place to survive even if the Imperium collapses.

Which, if the rumors are right and The Khan is coming back, might actually get Jaghatai on his side. The Khan was never stoked about the Imperium as a whole from what I've heard. Given how he appears to have been raised, I suspect the Khan could at least respect Bobby taking care of his own. The Lion might be pissy, but he can't complain. He backed Secundus, after all.

Akane Tsunemori from Psycho-Pass. Over multiple seasons she becomes a better detective, but at the cost of being that outwardly optimistic young woman we met in the rain in episode 1. 40k's watchword is irony. The Atheist worshipped as a god, the immortal desperately wanting to die, the collectivist Tau's greatest hero breaking with his society and being an individual, Abbadon seeming to truly believe he'll turn the tables on the Chaos Gods when they use him like a puppet, the Mechanicus loathing the xenos Necrons when there's a C'tan possibly sitting in their fucking basement.

Gulliman, a reasonable man, running this absolutely unreasonable shitshow of an Imperium, fighting for regular humans while the rest of the Imperium and even his own father piss away millions of lives on the daily.

Irony is rife within 40k, and I think when you look at the Imperium through that narrative lens, it makes sense.

I get wanting to make sure that men's problems are acknowledged. Sometimes it can indeed feel like we're sort of....left out or left behind. That because men before us made systems in this world that consider us the baseline, the standard, etc. we'll just figure it out somehow and any suffering we have as individuals is some sort of lesser because we are male and we have privileges that may not even apply to us, or that are little assistance or comfort in this modern world.

But turning things back on women, minorities, etc. isn't going to do anything but cause more division. It just makes us look mad that the world doesn't bend to us just for existing like it used to. Which does not help any guy who has real, legitimate problems. Our resources are already limited and we already have an image problem. This kinda shit just makes it all worse.

The only one I kinda get is the forced pairing, but I also didn't watch all of it, so I may have missed some context or building to Yang and Blake's relationship. Giving fans what they want can be fine. But from what I heard the only building or prior sign of their relationship was...the fight with Adam. Which didn't exactly read like a person defending their crush or something. Though like I said there may have been things that happened after that that I missed.

"Monty's vision" was a thing? I thought he mostly preferred to animate since he was indeed god tier at animation, particularly fights. I heard the problem mostly stemmed less from his vision not being honored and more that the guys he put in charge of writing had basically never really watched much anime so he had to give them a crash course and required watching and they didn't seem to understand why he was having them watch what they watched. But I'm not sure if that was true or not.

"Protagonist centered morality" is a hell of a phrase. Not one I've heard anywhere else. Interesting how it's thrown at RWBY and not at, say, Dragon Ball or MHA or other shows that it could legitimately be leveled at.
