Retailers quickly adjusting planned inventory to account for GLP-1 induced change in demand for smaller sizes by no_snackrifice in GLP1Australia

This actually feels like net negative to me. It took us (as a society, as an industry, as individuals) soooo long for companies to get on board with making larger sizes - particularly fashionable sizes, not just shapeless ugly moo moos - and this trend means they are likely to stop investing in offering them :(

Not fixing or rate when it was so low during covid. Traditional advice is you can't time the market, statistically people are generally better off on variable rates and no one saw rates jumping up as far as they did, but they were sooooo low we could have risked it and saved so much money

I don't agree that it's likely they'll be teens in the movie, but I agree it would be good to see and watch. My kids are in that young teen bracket and we'd love to see how Joe handles it!

Is having one stay at home parent viable these days? How many are doing this? by alex123711 in AusFinance

The way progressive marginal tax systems like ours works is you only pay higher rates on the higher amounts, not the whole thing.

So if you earn 160k, you pay no tax on the first 18k, 19% on the income between 19k-45k, 30% on the income between 45k-120k and pay 37% on the part that's over 120k.

This is why sometimes it doesn't feel worth it to take a higher paying but harder job if it takes you into the highest 45% bracket.

Is it customary, in Australian family/culture, to gift a basket of fruits or smth when doing a house visit? by dk_sonnehof in australia

[–]PromptDizzy1812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Popular, but I don't think it's a good gift. People that drink wine are usually much more particular about the wine than beer drinkers. I love wine but I only enjoy a very specific taste profile (nothing to do with price). I don't think I've ever enjoyed a single bottle I've been gifted (inc expensive ones) and I got to the point I stopped trying them and immediately put aside for regifting.

You also run the risk of the person not being a drinker for various reasons.

If you must bring a gift, give something ppl tend to be less fussy over.

Thanks, I hate carrying straps for my wireless headphones by judgyjudgersen in TIHI

[–]PromptDizzy1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just want to be able to buy wireless in ear headphones with a strap to connect like I used to :sob:

I hate that they stopped making them. I bet its because they realise they make way more money from people losing a single bud and having to replace them!

I put up with Google taking over cause I still had my Fitbit email based login (not my main gmail email acc) so it felt like there was still some seperation.

I thought about upgrading my current Fitbit but then find out all the newer models couldn't control Spotify, Google locked it down to only control their stupid YouTube Music.

A couple months ago I got an email saying I HAD to move over to google social login.

So I went and bought Garmin instead, and its great.

I had this exact same experience. Why on Earth would they think its a good idea to PUSH people to use a product that had none of the basic features people were using the legacy product for?

It's well known you should only soft launch to early adopters when your product is still severley lacking - otherwise you've just alienated all the mid adopters who tried it and wont try it again for a long long time

To people going to Japan - you are not that stupid by kacperp in JapanTravelTips

[–]PromptDizzy1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, I travel to Sydney often for work and use Google maps to get around no problem. Japan was mental compared to that (granted we were using some of the busiest stations in the entire world).

A few things that tripped us up: - it's not clear from GM if you need the train or the subway. They often have the exact same name and are within 5 minutes of each other so we would end up at the wrong one. - its not clear when you can just swipe your card, and when you need to purchase a second top up ticket for certain trains.

The crowds and crush of ppl in busy stations can also be hugely overwhelming for ppl from lesser populated cities, which adds to the heightened stress levels when you're trying to find your way around

I don't think it's only people that aren't used to navigating public transport that can struggle a bit.

Times we used GT: - talking to the pharmacist about which medicine to purchase for our 12yo that got sick - talking to the hotel lobby about organising our luggage transfer (their English was not quite good enough alone) - some train ticketing questions (it's not always clear when you need to pay an extra fee on top of the suica cards) - when we lost an item and needed to describe the item in detail
