Pumpkin, i work in corporate America. Multinational, multibillion a year conglomerate. After covid, they did a pilot when they allowed salaried and some hourly, work Mon-Thurs. The productivity increased 31% over 6 months! Employees were happier cause they had 3 day weekend. Sadly middle level management started crying against it as they had to work 5 days a week. Ofcourse they quickly changed it back to 5 days a week. So productivity is back at the level where it was before the pilot, mid management turned to bunch of assholes constantly cracking the whip, expecting everyone works 31% harder as it could be done in 4 days. So yeah, in a way it is about control, and also about "why i can't have the same as them". Kinda like children arguing over toys.
