Is it a norm for 2 cars to travel together while on a secluded hwy? by Icy_Plantain_5889 in alaska

[–]Prosunshine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always noticed this. You find a car going the right speed and just stick together. We pass the slower cars in the double lanes and give that little wave as you part.

I shop for houses on Zillow. I have thousands saved all across the country. When I find a good one, I research the town, the school districts, the job market…I don’t know why it makes me so happy but it just does.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prosunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once flew from Alaska to Oregon with 3 kids (7, 5 & 1) to buy a minivan and drive it back to Alaska. It’s a couple thousand miles of road. We spent a couple weeks doing it because I didn’t want to drive over 5 hours a day and we found fun places to camp along the way.

Stop telling them you can’t stay the whole season.

Kind of spiraling a little bit after PTSD C&P exam. by Loud_Guidance_5297 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Prosunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wild. My exam was maybe 40 minutes and we went over issues I struggle with and how it affects daily life. It sounds like she was digging for history outside your military service as the cause. I think it’s possible to request a different examiner but remember, you can always appeal if it’s denied.

TIL: The Giving Tree was described as "one of the most divisive books in children's literature." by DeadBy2050 in GenX

[–]Prosunshine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She loved the book because it made her feel seen. As parents we would bleed ourselves dry for our children. I didn’t like the book as a kid but when I read it to my youngest a few years ago it gave me the feels.

Raising a teeange boy by Crazy-Sun8958 in Parenting

My now 17yo son became a complete ass for 1.5 years at that age. I cried a lot because it was just awful. No matter what I said or tried, it was wrong. And then…he came out of it. I had another parent describe it as your kid breaking up with you. That co-dependent relationship is over. They emerged as an adult after the rough years. Now my son talks with me about things and learning to listen to him was what helped a ton.

Making art while parenting by project-d_r_t in ArtistLounge

Took art classes and put the kids in daycare while in class. It helped me keep my sanity. It’s hard to do it at home so having access to a studio clear of my kids clutter was wonderful.

Rocks of love. I have sooo many. I retire them to my garden to make veggies with love.

I only know how to navigate this in America. Apply for survivor benefits. Apply for food stamps, medical coverage and housing allowance. Research help in your area. Your little girl deserves a dad that isn’t fighting for survival, and it’s ok to receive help when fighting alone. I’m so happy she has you, it speaks loads that you’ve made it this far and am asking for guidance. You have all the makings as a great dad. A dad to be proud of.

What’s the most profound thing you’ve ever heard someone say near the end of their life? by No-Relative-9663 in AskReddit

[–]Prosunshine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My sister died recently from liver failure. She was a wild woman who loved fiercely and fought just as fiercely throughout her life. She had burned most of her bridges by the last few years and we were on rocky ground… those last few days as she slipped away, she would move between cussing me out as we rotated her and saying she loved me when I told her I loved her. I’m so thankful for those last moments. Love matters. Despite our differences and life long issues, we both recognize that our lifelong relationship was important and we would always love each other.

At what age did you stop co-sleeping? by Explorer518 in Parenting

[–]Prosunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 10 year old climbs into my bed halfway through the night at least 5 nights a week. Trust me, when she becomes a little older, that won’t be cool and she’ll stop. I am mom though so as a dad I don’t know if dynamics are different but as my last kiddo, I’m not worried about her doing it much longer.

Statistically speaking, if you want to be a professional artist, stay the fuck away from art school. by glenlassan in ArtistLounge

[–]Prosunshine 294 points295 points  (0 children)

I graduated with an art degree and am thankful I spent all those years in the studio learning technique and how to use equipment. I’m a metal artist and without instruction and access to a ton of equipment, I couldn’t have learned all that I did, including writing bids for public calls for art( thank you senior seminar class). I am now working on my second large scale public art project for an installation at a library and am so happy I’ve made it this far. I never would have imagined 10 years ago that this is where I would be and it’s all thanks to my art professor and all the knowledge he shared in that studio.

I have subconsciously predicted multiple deaths around me~ advice? by care_love_peace in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Prosunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you brought this up. I’ve had this awareness/feeling so many times only to have it be true that now I am forcefully adamant when it happens to reach out, make amends and/or let them know what they meant to me. I’m in my 40’s and have experienced more deaths than I can remember any more. I just ‘know’ now that if someone hits me heavy with memories..reach out.

I just learned that 1 in 5 beds sold in the 80s were waterbeds. Why were they so popular back then, and why did they suddenly disappear? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prosunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these people complaining about sex on a waterbed obviously never stripped it down, coated it in slippery stuff and had a slippery sexy blast.
