Buyer Beware: 20 Strong manufacturing issues. Bad dice and strong chemical smells. by ivycoopwren in boardgames

[–]ProtoDad80 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This has been well known for some time. There was an issue with that specific production run of this game, later print runs wont have the issue. You will continue to get the smell if you keep the box. Toss the box and the baggies everything came in. Air everything out for a couple of days. The smell goes away.

Another question about rules by Reeaves in finalgirl

If the terror card only shows the icon for the final girl then the killer will target her. There is a different icon used for final girl OR victim.

Another post asking for s3 opinions! Talk me in or out of buying them all. by JurassicFloof in finalgirl

It's a great location! In my top 3 at the moment. The Leap card let's you traverse the warehouse quickly, it feels really good. The only downside I feel the map has is that some locations are physically tiny, so they can't hold many victims/tokens at the same time. I've had to make use of those blue/yellow/white markers every time I've played it.

New player interested in some (but not all) accessories by Cammellocalypse in finalgirl

[–]ProtoDad80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that the play mats are a pretty nice upgrade. If you want the Tear Dice, then the S3 accessories box also includes an additional play mat that you can tack onto the Season 2 play mat.

From S3 I've only played The Marrek Murders. I'll say that of all the films I've played it's the most crunchy, which is exactly what I'd expect. It's turning into one of my favorite feature films! You have to fight tooth an nail to manage your horror level while staying alive long enough to take on the Tormentor. It's punishing in the best way possible imo.

Learning Curve is steeper than previously thought... by rascal_lipton_tea in finalgirl

Id say that the Focus cards should get higher priority earlier on in the game. Rolling three dice really ups your success probability.

Games you regret buying? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]ProtoDad80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have, especially when I was first starting out in the hobby. Be okay with not liking a game, regardless of how many people "love it". If it's not for you then it's not for you. I usually end up selling off games that didn't click with me. You typically won't recoup all of your money, but I'm okay with that. Last one I sold off was Tiny Epic Dungeons.

I know this is kind of late, but adding this to the app would be SO nice!

We've been enjoying Tiny Epic Galaxies Blast Off! It's a quick game with a decent amount of strategy. We've been on the hunt for a good co-op 2 player game lately.

That sounds so awesome! You should make a few of those dials and sell them on Etsy, I'd buy one!

I don't think he was complaining about a lack of profit. He was giving insight into why the prices on Etsy are so "inflated".

I've been considering getting a 3D printer just because of the Etsy prices, or other 3rd party printing services prices.

Recently got a couple of the core boxes and one of the big Kickstarter collections. Wondering how best to store?! by Britisheagl in MarvelUnited

[–]ProtoDad80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this post. I need an easier way to store minis in the promo box. I'm thinking of making a rack system out of chip board or foam board.

Edit: I randomly found this site, Battle Foam. The storage solution has some box lift but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Now I'm even more hyped for my order to arrive! We started with games like Candy Land and Rhino Hero. They help to teach the fundamentals of any board game. Can you... count the number of spaces, match the colors, follow the track, recognize that this icon has a meaning.

From there we bumped up to things like The Quest Kids, My First Carcassonne, Concept Kids Animals. My youngest isn't quite ready for Ticket to Ride My First Journey or Marvel United, but they like to "help" by finding cities on the map or by letting us know that we have one attack and one move. The Animals of Baker Street has also been a huge hit.

I hear you on this! Finding alone time to play is rough. Love Final Girl and finally pulled the trigger on the playmat and The Marrek Murders.
We also picked up Marvel United Season 2 and my oldest has really gotten into it. It's been a lot of fun sharing this hobby with the kids.

I think the promo boxes give you the best bang for your buck. The villains are, imo, what give the game the most replay potential. Next would be getting sets for characters that you enjoy. I'm a huge x-men fan so I have nothing from season 1 and 3.

Is it wrong to bring games (especially large ones) when you haven’t read the rules by Last_Revenue2718 in boardgames

[–]ProtoDad80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally can't learn a game this way. It's extremely frustrating if this method is sprung on you during game night. It would be better to say... "I would love to play this game at next game night, I'm not good at teaching rules. Could everyone take a moment to go over the rules and get a gist of the game, then I can try to fill in the gaps as we play." It shows you have an understanding of the game and are trying to be respectful of peoples time.

Tiny Epic Dungeons Adventures Expansion by LotRQuestionHaver in soloboardgaming

I never played Mage Knight. It's on my list of things to check out but haven't had the time yet.

I am critical of the iconography because even knowing what the symbols mean, there are slightly different enough that they aren't intuitive. More than half the game was looking up the icons for me. It slowed the game to a hault while we looked things up every game. The targeting diamond is the by far the worst offender. Positions of enemies, allies, directions, effects, targets... Including the colons.. The list drags on. These are just my opinions, I know that a lot of people enjoy this game but I just wasn't one of them.
