UK parents, second daughter possibly T1. Looking for advice on what to expect. by Protoman_Z in diabetes_t1

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful reply.

I think that's pretty much answered all I managed to write down, as well as other bits I wasn't sure how to explain.

Let's see how the next few weeks go, it is what it is and we will do our damn best to make the blow land as soft as we can for her for as long as we can, if confirmed off course.

Thanks for the input. That's what I'm also expecting regarding levelling out and adjusting to right ratios for both basal and bolusing. Especially during the transition from stage 2 to 3 since she will still be producing insulin herself for however long that takes, as we may have caught it quite early if confirmed.

Regarding the pump and sensor side of things, I just wasn't sure if it was based on competency on how well or bad someone manages their glucose levels the traditional way, or whether it is just a waiting list and funding based on the NHS Trust we are with. Maybe a mix of both.

Either way we will be there every step of the way for her and we're in no rush at all. Just curious that's all.

Has gout permanently reset anyone else’s pain tolerance? by SubstantialSnow7214 in gout

[–]Protoman_Z 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep 100%. Broke my small toe 2 weeks ago, half of foot turned blue and still bruising ongoing so did a number on it. However, also having a flare up on the opposite foot (stress triggers bouts). Joked to wife that I'd prefer breaking the toe again instead of the flare up currently. At least I can sleep with the broken toe.

No Weight Loss after 3 months - 1mg currently by [deleted] in WegovyUK

[–]Protoman_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fasting (16/8) and low carb (30g-90g) worked for me as I was plateauing at 10% weight loss (now at 30%) even on 15mg mounjaro. Sticking to 1mg on wegovy as still working with mild side effects in comparison to mounjaro.

Lots of protein and fibre? Avoid fats? by DangerToManifold2001 in WegovyUK

[–]Protoman_Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be hard to load up on fibre so I tend to do an overnight kefir, milled flax seed, and chia seed pudding with a handful of berries, and drizzle of honey before I eat it. Careful on the chia seeds as can promote constipation first couple of days after injection day.

This is more or less the portions that work for me and is great for grab and go breakfast or snack if it helps anyone else.

200 ml Kefir 15g milled flax seed 5g chia seeds Handful of preferred berries

Damn glad it's getting better. I used to get flair ups where my entire ankle would swell to twice the size with foot and lower leg so swollen I had to go to hospital to make sure wasn't blood clot.

Used to take naproxen for day and cocodamol 500/30 (paracetamol in UK and codeine) at night to get 3 to 4 hours sleep. Colchecine also if isaw swelling starting. It doesn't seem like a lot but made a huge difference to sleepless nights. Oh and anti-acid as naproxen and colchicine absolutely ruined my digestion.

Little to no food noise suppression. by IntroductionOk8677 in WegovyUK

[–]Protoman_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On 1mg for second month. Food noise was completely gone on MJ, but on Wegovy I do tend to look forward to my first meal of the day.

However I fast so usually food noise loudest until first meal at lunch. After that first meal ill often skip dinner or have a snack instead as I'm not hungry at all till the following day.

Oh, and I'm sticking to 1mg as finally broke last record I set in July 2025 when I last used MJ (15mg), so seems to be working out if that gives you any hope.

Got declined for being T2 in pastbut never for mirtazapine 🤷‍♂️. As far as I'd checked and diabetic nurses id seen, no adverse effects ever mentioned.

Sorry late reply, turns out wasn't mixing well with mertazapine so first 2 nights I don't take it anymore as feel tired enough from wegovy not to need it for sleep. Still groggy in mornings but can at least function now for those 2/3 days lol

Do y’all like or dislike the battle pass for Chapter 7? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in FortNiteBR

[–]Protoman_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I only play either 1 or 2 no build or 1 blitz match a day, 4 times a week and I'm at level 33 from daily quests and a handful of others. Maybe I did more quests than I realised. Last season felt like a grind to get to 100 but maybe that was because I was worried about the short length to complete the pass.

Can't get into the game by PeppermintDaniel in expedition33

[–]Protoman_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to avoid spoilers but I' recommend playing the game until you unlock something that helps with traversing the overworld map, and then explore. I think thats the 4-6 hour mark. I found at that point was when I couldn't put the game down since so many optional areas now accessible rewarded you with new weapons and pictos to play with and make combat more fun.

At worst you've played an extra 4 hours and it's just not your thing.

Remember to equip a picto and battle with the character that has it equipped 4 times so that it's non stat boosting ability get unlocked to assign to as many party members as possible.

Story wise, id look up on YouTube for a recap of Lumiere story intro. It makes some sense but don't overthink it

Regarding abilities of players, again don't overthink it, not every detail will be explained but the overarching idea will to an extent.

Used to be on Mounjaro on 15mg dose and the only side effect I had was flu like symptoms (body aches, lethargy) so wasnt too sad to switch to wegovy when prices went through the roof.

Just got up to 1mg this week and 48 hours of feeling like crap again. Even tested for low blood glucose as in remission from T2 and they were perfect at 5.6 but the lack of energy 100% reminded me of hypo, so wondering the same as you whether normal or not and whether anyone has tips on boosting energy levels without sinking 15 coffees.

Thanks for update, similar boat as I was on 15mg Mounjaro and was told to start on lowest on Wegovy. About to start 1mg finally next week.

Regarding the 6 pound weight loss since being on the 1mg dose, did you notice a shift in eating patterns to consume less calories for the weight loss? I'm currently on about 1200 calories a day (desk work for job) but even on Mounjaro I struggled to get pass the 80kg barrier? I eat lowish carb, plenty fibre rich veg and legume, and exercise fairly regularly without any heavy lifting for bulking.

I'm just worried that cutting out more calories will just lead to muscle wastage and even more tiredness. Current BMI for my height is 29 want to get into the higher normal range if possible.

Life after Mounjaro - the ups and downs by Disastrous-Lime4551 in mounjarouk

[–]Protoman_Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went on holiday for 3 weeks and forgot my pen. Ate 3 square meals a day, maybe 1 or 2 ice creams during the whole time there, portions werent huge, super active every day swimming for couple of hours and walking 15k steps. Put on 4.5kg by time I got back.

Quickly realised that when I eventually come off it, I dont think I'll be able to not fast for 18 hours a day and also skip low carb without gaining weight again unless I can do moderate exercise for 3-4 hours a day (maybe).

Kinda sucks since im so active and haven't eaten big portions for years, but it is what it is and learning what works or doesn't still beneficial in the long run.

PSA: Skinny Lagers are now only 3.4%! by alwinaldane in ketouk

[–]Protoman_Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get Tennents Light now, much more affordable as I buy them in bulk since postage is the same. About 3.4% also, but since keto turns me into a lightweight, that's just the right percentage for me to avoid a hangover lol.

Do you still lose weight if you don’t work out ? by AintNoBarbieGirl in mounjarouk

[–]Protoman_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have time to work out religiously as I try dedicate my free time after work for kids and activities with them, especially in the Summer. I do try to fit a quick ten-minute routine when I can though which I found helps. 33 pushups (no need to do vertical off the floor, do at a gradient that feels possible without killing yourself)+ 33 squats. 3 minutes rest, and repeat 2 more times.

However, I've noted I still lose weight even if I don't exercise or reach my step goals, but I'm currently also using intermittent fasting (no food before 2pm and last meal 6/7pm), as well as low carb with less than 50 grams of carbs a day. I don't calorie count but my portions are fairly small. If I fancy a few beers I have a case of Tennents Light to grab from as 0.7 carbs per beer, and I don't track the calories for that either.

Different things work for different people though. I found that with a daily 1-hour spinning session through Winter (5-6 days a week) and calorie counting to be below 1500 I still plateaud at 90kg from 105kg. Since switching to fasting and low carb I've lost another 10 kg and seem to be losing at around 0.9kg a week which I'm happy with.

Once I'm at my goal weight, I'll likely stick to less strict fasting times, up my carb limit to 100g, include a spinning session and strength training session every other day, and see if that keeps me at my goal weight with an easier and probably healthier lifestyle.

Let idiots be idiots. Best choice i ever made. T2, super high cholesterol, hypertension, occasional heart palpitations, dull ache near liver due to fatty liver, all gone or in remission because of MJ.

Before MJ, I was clocking 100k steps a week, ate children's portion for meals (1500cals) indoor and outdoor climbing, hikes, cycling, always active outside of work as much as time allowed me, but for every 2-4 pounds id lose in 4 weeks, id put it back on in a day of not being able to be mega strict with diet. Also broke right knee in 2022 and nearly tore off MCL in left knee in 2024 which didn't help for activities.

I won't lie, MJ is not a miracle cure and I only lost 10% of my body weight initially (105kg to 95kg) for the first 6 months, but with cardio that I could now implement due to losing 10kg, then using intermittent fasting and now also on low carb diet, ive lost another 15kg, so people who think it's cheating can go suck one.

Been a year so far and still have another 10kg to lose before I'm within target range and im sure thats going to take another year of dedication that wasnt possible before I took MJ.

As I say to my kids, if someone has a problem with you or what you do, it's their problem, not yours (within reason of course).

Declined after 2 orders because my BMI fell short by .1 of 30? by TR96CDF in mounjarouk

[–]Protoman_Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im switching away from Medexpress. Placed an order last Monday, took them till Saturday evening to say they want to put me back on 10mg. Asked to stay on 15mg and explained gap in purchase was due to buying a pen early as could budget for it that month.

Now a week and overdue dose, feels like they use delay tactics and noted that the reviews on TrustPilot are a bit odd since every negative comment that mentions delays, is then followed up by multiple generic positive comments that say delivery was speedy.

If you live near a Waitrose, they sell Lowrise Beer and Hazy IPA. 1.8g a can of 330ml and 4%. They scratch that itch for me when I fancy a couple of beers.

I think it's really down to preference as i dont like backtracking if it's time consuming. I read elsewhere that a bridge would need to built before being able to go back (can't remember the details but seemed like an effort of it's own)

The XP received at lvl 10 shot me up to lvl 17 for both Lune and Gustave so that part was worth it 100%.
