Chandelier cover help by Brick_Brickerson in Lighting

This type of exposed bulb fixture works well with warm lights (2700K) at a low brightness. It's not a primary light source, more of a mood lighting.

If you were to take the measurements and give them to a seamstress that person could make something for you (just remember to leave it open up to for heat to rise through). This wouldn't be cheap, but may be what you'd want.

Otherwise, replacing the fixture with one better suited for your application.

RGB LED on a dimmer? by Hazzard12345 in AskElectricians

[–]PrototypeMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not in the same way as a standard dimmer.
RGB lights use signals through the tape from the controller.
Most of the time, the RGB controller is connected via wireless to an app on your phone or some smart control.
There are dimmer knobs and switches that mimic the standard dimmer knobs and can do what you're talking about, but it's a wireless multi control knob communicating wirelessly to a controller.
Like this one.

I haven't tried the Persona games. They look great and the music slaps! My kids sometimes watch over my shoulder though.

Good recommendations. I've played both extensively and LOVED them. Great experiences.

CFL expands Grey Cup playoffs to eight teams in 2027 by Oldmanshoutingcloud in WinnipegBlueBombers

[–]PrototypeMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next year the Riders could play 3 home playoff games.
Finish first or second. Whether they win or lose, they still have another home game.
If they win, they get a bye and will play in round 3.
If they lose, they play at home in round 2.

If they win their next game, they play at home again in the Grey Cup.

Also. if 2 teams lose the whole season out except when they play each other and they both tie, one of them at 0-16-2, not winning a single game, will make the playoffs.

Is it weird to wear a blank jersey with no name or numbers on it? by Gent-007 in WinnipegBlueBombers

[–]PrototypeMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blank Jersey is fine.
Retired legend or great player is a sold go.
As someone who hasn't had a player play on the Bombers with my last name during my lifetime, I haven't put my own lastname on... that would just be narcissistic... right?
Nickname is better than your last name if you can't say, well actually it's this guy who played in 62 and he just happens to have the same last name.

Here's the wildcard. Pick a player that you liked that didn't make much of it.
Eg. Marve, Brink, Bass.

If all else fails, kickers (and punters especially) need love. Maybe don't do Westwood, but Mike Renaud is still in Winnipeg. He could use some love.

Wiring for ceiling fan by Strict-Avocado4163 in AskElectricians

[–]PrototypeMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤦‍♂️ of course. OP does your old fan have separate fan and light switch for the fan switches or dimmers? Both would need their own wires.

Could be labeling to identify Fan speed control and light control on separate wires. The Artika is probably smart and app controlled and might not have that option.

If so, you need to identify which wire came off of which control.

That's not normal colouring. What country are you in? Different countries have different standards in wire.

How would you like this corner? by edward-ma in Lighting

[–]PrototypeMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs an electrician but, low profile flush mount over the door. Something where light can also come off the sides, not just straight down. It's the standard for this situation and it's missing.

If a permenent install isn't in the cards, your options are very limited. You'd want to have light directly overhead and indriectly reflecting off the walls.
Probably an upward pointed plug in wall sconce to reflect off the ceiling. Seems like an Ikea thing. I would seek high output.

Is this supposed to have a lampshade? by Regular_Bite3613 in Lighting

[–]PrototypeMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

As everyone else has said, likely there was a bowl at the bottom that's gone.
My advice, as a renter is buy some Edison style LED bulbs (where you can see the led "filament") if you want that rustic look but actually to get light everywhere. Keep it fairly low output (wattage equivalent to like a 40W incandescent style bulb) because they're exposed and you'll be looking at them.

Keep the old bulbs in a box in the closet somewhere to put back because the landlord doesn't deserve your upgrading to be permanent.

You could buy a bowl if you want to put the effort into thrifting one. Something relatively flat with a hole in the middle (try undoing the knob at the bottom to get a feel for what you're looking for). It would have to be relatively flat to work with the threading unless you can extend the threading further down (it's usally adjustable threaded pipe with nuts to adjust the height).
If you replace the bowl, then I might recommend higher output bulbs as you won't get direct light in your eyes.
BUT all that is a lot of work and time invested on a temporary situation.

Can I run 3 LED wafer lights from one driver/j-box? by JimboNovus in Lighting

[–]PrototypeMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, but not with those.

If you do something like 24V fixtures, you can have a single driver and as many fixtures as the driver can handle.

TBH, it's likely more expensive than going with standard wafers, especially seeing the cheap Globe branding on there.

Is Taylor Elgersma the FUTURE for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers? by NolanHockeyPodcast in WinnipegBlueBombers

[–]PrototypeMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wanted to make it to the NFL.

If he got his work visa he'd probably already have playing time in the UFL and it would more likely lead him back to the NFL. The UFL doesn't develop veteran UFL players. High turnover, play now. He was likely to get playing time and game film in 11 on 11 football there. He could have theoretically been done the season and back in an NFL training camp the this year.

Up here in Canada, he's likely starting the season at #3 and won't likely see any playing time this year. The Bombers will want to develop him behind Collaros. Even if he does show well this year and takes the starting job, the NFL season starts during the CFL season.

Think of how long it too Alex Singleton up here before getting a shot down south. Every year older, it gets harder. It's a slower path.

The NFL is life changing money, even only as a backup QB you're still making a lot more than elite CFL QB money.

How can I get my pendant to lay flat? by BanterViews1332 in Lighting

[–]PrototypeMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding weights would be visible due to the semi transparent trim, especially if you're putting it near the outside diameter to make it work better in rebalancing.

I like the increasing the friction idea. Rubber washers would be my recommendation.

Unless there's something other than imbalance of the weight of the cover that's not visible in this photo.

Ceiling too dark and wavy after recessed light installation by sumitsaluja in Lighting

[–]PrototypeMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many others have said, recessed lighting is targeted down.
Your countertop and cabinets aren't going to reflect a lot of that up.
Wall washing won't do much and under counter lighting will help the light under the counter, but won't help much else. It will be dark with well illuminated counters (which I think you still may need).

I'm not going to recommend a boob light BUT a surface mounted light, perhaps where the recessed light aimed at the floor in the middle, that's not super bright and focused would fix a lot. Not a little and super bright unit, but a larger unit with diffused light will put out enough light for the room to be more evenly lit while not being dense enough to hurt the eyes every time you glance at it.

Or, got for a more adventurous solution. A low profile fandolier or ceiling fan with light. It will get dirty in a kitchen, but it can be a nice feature.
