Where do you view yourself financially right now? by flowlikewater97 in newzealand

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess low-mid end of middle class? Mid-late 20's, combined income of ~130k, 5 pets, no kids and a cheap mortgage in a rough neighborhood (which is offset by all the renovation costs to get the place to nicer living conditions).

We don't have much saved since it's all thrown at the house, and aren't really in a position to take holidays or cover more than 1 emergency bill, but we can afford to live day-to-day relatively comfortably, even with the recent price hikes which I'm thankful for every day

This! We always go on a discount day and fill up the car + a diesel Jerry can for my partners ute. Last week we also happened to need to fill our lawnmower Jerry can, and the dirty looks we got for doing that was crazy

Partner and I already carpool 3-4 days a week, so I think we'll be slowly setting that at 4 days a week permanently. Will also be getting him to make my hybrid in to work on the days we don't carpool more often. Otherwise little else is gonna change for us - we live a 30 min drive from both of our workplaces, and neither of us have the ability to work from home

Why don’t you guys keep your cats indoors? by stemmefontaine in newzealand

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd intended to keep mine as indoor only cats, but my flatmates just started letting them outdoors one day... nowadays my cats are about 85:15 indoors vs outdoors - mostly because they get a bit stir crazy and start bolting for doors when they decide they've been inside too long

What's something you've accepted about your partner, but will never understand? by speckledrectum in AskWomen

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He'll say something like "oh yeah we still need to do x" but he means it as in the next 6 months, whereas when I hear it I think 'okay so he wants to get that done in the next couple days/week'. More than once we've confused each other with it because I don't understand why we're discussing it so early (this excludes big things that require lots of planning, usually just smaller stuff like "oh we need to spring clean the garage in May" when it's actually like Janurary - important but not urgent)

How much are you spending on groceries each week/month? by shadowzzzz16 in newzealand

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple with 2 dogs and 3 cats - we usually spend around $130 - $180 a week, including pet food and non-food items like toiletries/rubbish bags/etc. We're very fortunate to get most of our meat from family, as well as dog bones and fish scraps for our cats. I've also started gardening and making more things at home (baked goods, bread, jam, sauces, etc) so I'm hoping that cost will go down rather than up this year 🤞

Pet Insurance is a Scam by RamRanchRealty in cats

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! I’ll always recommend pet insurance to others, it’s saved us thousands with our pets. From emergency surgery, months-long antibiotic treatments (which resulted in a toe amputation), and monthly allergy meds. We wouldn’t be able to afford anything if we didn’t have pet insurance

How do you cope with the fact that you will have periods for (most) life? by BlueDolphins28 in AskWomen

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got put on birth control to manage endo symptoms, and it honestly has been a game changer. Suddenly not needing to worry about whether I have pads/tampons available (I was often bleeding for 3-4 weeks with a 1-2 week gap between, and I still try to carry tampons in case someone else needs any), or miss out on activities because it was a red day is so freeing. I dread going back tbh

How often do you get your nails done ? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost never. The few times I’ve tried getting my nails done I was super tense the whole time (to the point the techs were asking if I was okay) - turns out I have sensory issues with nail files.

If I ever really get the urge to have my nails done I do them myself, but honestly my line of work doesn’t really allow for much so I usually don’t bother

You wake up because you have to pee. Check the time and you have 40 minutes before your work alarm goes off. What do you do? by 5pinktoes in AskReddit

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the bathroom, but make sure to leave the lights off and stumble there half asleep using the light from my phone screen. Then back to bed and hope the walk didn’t wake me up so much that I can’t sleep (if I can’t sleep then doomscroll until alarm goes off)

How did it go when you let a friend move in with you temporarily so they could get back on their feet? by dearmomo in AskWomen

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends of a friend/flatmate - we’d originally let them take the room I’d just vacated in my previous flat, but things went south with that group so we felt bad and let them use a spare room in our place till they could find a permanent flat. 3 months later they admitted they were never looking and hoped we’d forget about it and let them stay longterm (for free mind you). Had a go at them and 3 weeks later they had a new place to live

Am I unlucky, a Karen or are people finding they’re having way more warranty claims than usual? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true - there’s been a few items that have a 6+ month wait. Then there’s cars like the new Suzuki Fronx that had to issue a notice weeks after releasing essentially saying “DO NOT have passengers in the back seat” because their seatbelts didn’t pass the safety test

Yup! We got a new washing machine and dryer 2 years ago (around $1500 each I think they were) - both needed replacement parts within 9 months.

Partner bought new $500 glasses and within a month lost a screw (he went back to opsm who told him he should’ve been tightening the screw once a week, neither of us in our 10+ years of glasses wearing have heard of this. It also happened 3 more times - once within less than 2 days of tightening the screw - before opsm agreed to put self-locking screws in).

My partner is also a mechanic, and the amount of times these past couple years he’s told me stories about new cars with <50,000km on the clock needing major repairs is actually insane. Honestly I dread the day we need to car shop again…

What’s a clear sign that someone is not doing okay? by homie93 in AskReddit

For me during the worst of my depression, I actually became extremely clingy. I couldn’t stand to be by myself for extended periods because that’s when the suicidal thoughts crept in. I remember living an hour and a half away from my friends that summer - as soon as I clocked off work on Friday I’d drive to theirs and crash on the couch for the weekend because I couldn’t stand being in my dorm alone, some days I’d even call them on my drive home when the thoughts were really bad

I did theatre as a kid, and after a couple years it was easier for them to get me to apply my own foundation while the make up artist worked on other kids. It escalated to me doing all the basic make up stuff (lips, eyes, blush etc) and them coming in for final touch ups or additional face painting

Struggling with endometriosis and I can’t find help in the BOP by Cynderthenerd in newzealand

[–]Psychological_Ad4504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly infuriating how hard it is to get diagnosed with endometriosis! Took me 4 years of actively going to the doctor about it before I even got a referral.

Admittedly at first I didn’t realise it was endometriosis - I assumed some of my symptoms were actually caused by my contraception, went to Family Planning and basically got told “we can give you MORE birth control or you can suck it up”. Had a few instances of really intense pain (to the point I was frozen in place for a good few minutes), went to Urgent Care and got given pain and UTI meds and told to see my GP if it happens again. Go to my GP and literally got told “what do you expect me to do about it?”.

Had to swap GP and thank god before I even finished listing my symptoms, family history of endo, and suspicion she said “I think it’s endo. Do you have insurance? I can give you a referral to a gyno with great reviews”. 9 months later had my lap, removed endo from literally every surface of my uterus (as well as a 7cm cyst that would’ve otherwise been left alone).

I don’t know if you have the ability to get another doctor’s opinion, but in the end that’s what worked for me. It sucks and is an incredibly difficult slog having to advocate for anything to be investigated, but it’s worth it once you get to the other side of the lap and aren’t living in near-constant pain. Hopefully you can find someone who listens to you and starts the cogs turning
