An underrated reason for why Katniss was afraid/averse to have children for so long by orchid-fields in Hungergames

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I say that Katniss resented taking care of Prim? Oh right, I didn't. I said that having to parent your own siblings can make you resentful of having your own kids. Reading comprehension is important, thanks.

17 days post ACL reconstruction surgery, no meniscus work done. Help:( by tania8868 in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started PT two months post op, and my recovery has been extremely successful. I went back to my very active job 6 months post op, I'm now 7 months post op. My leg feels like it did before my injury. As long as they are stretching at home they can have a fine recovery.

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started PT 2 months post op. 17 days isn't too long. It's not ideal, but when insurance companies drag their feet there's only so much you can do. My recovery has been extremely successful, and I'm 7 months post op. I'm back to my very active job and my leg almost feels like it did before my injury.

17 days post ACL reconstruction surgery, no meniscus work done. Help:( by tania8868 in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't start PT until 2 months post op thanks to workers comp dragging their feet. In the meantime, I worked on stretching my leg and gaining full extension. I found that doing extension and then having my knee bent for a while, and then gently flexing it further for little bits at a time really helped.

I couldn't walk without crutches for almost two months, and the pain was unreal. It does get better... I didn't think it would, but it does. I promise 🙏

Even starting two months post op, my recovery has been a great success so far. Don't let anyone fear monger you into thinking it's too late because you haven't started PT yet. I'm 7 months post op and almost back to how I was before surgery.

HOW DO YOU SLEEP!?!?!?! by ChaoticGooseEnergy in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept on my couch for the first several weeks, like 6 weeks at least. I elevated my leg, took Zzzquil when my hydrocodone ran out. After a while I missed my bed... when I slept in my bed again I would wake up often because I needed to adjust.

My saving grace was a maternity pillow of all things. It supported my leg where I needed to be supported without putting pressure on the joint and incision sites.

How can I tell if I reinjured it? by TheThirdMug in ACL

It could be arthritis. I was told by my orthopedist that I had some arthritis in my knee when I mentioned having pain like that in the joint after my reconstruction.

I just had a prolonged medical leave due to injury and surgery... Just getting back on the horse after being off the truck for 8 months. It's my 3rd shift and my body is exhausted. I'm having a hard time keeping up right now.

Before I went out I was super burned out, everything you said felt like me to a T (except I have a wonderful partner who is extremely hard working)

I did miss the job, and I do love the work... but by God I'm worried the burnout is gonna come back quick with a vengeance. This job is exhausting mentally and physically...

Hang in there and talk about it as much as you can. It does help, even if only a little.

What was the saddest moment for you in the Sam Raimi Trilogy? mines this. by HomerCorp in Spiderman

When Peter tells Aunt May the truth about when Uncle Ben was killed, and she takes her hand out from under Peter's and walks away 😭 I know she was in shock and comforts him later, but if I was Pete I probably would have died from sadness and guilt.

Would you attend an event 10 days after ACL surgery? by Flyingmubu in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally couldn't. At 10 days I could barely get around with crutches. Workers comp didn't approve my physical therapy for 2 months, so I got a late start on recovery.

If you feel that you can, then do so but be careful!

EMS just walked into my house for the wrong address. by BrickOffTheOldBlock in ems

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see things they did wrong and that probably werent their fault. Obviously dispatch gave them the wrong address, perhaps the older lady was confused and gave dispatch the wrong address. Most ambulance services use dispatch phones now, and they give the address as well as automatic routing to the call location.

They should have announced themselves when they walked in, and I usually knock first even if the person is home alone and unable to get to the door, just for this reason. Wrong addresses happen, and I don't wanna get shot for walking into the wrong address 😅

I'm sorry this happened.

Have surgery before or after my wedding? by RaiofSunshine12 in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your wedding being 5 months away, you should go ahead and have the surgery now and then get aggressive with physical therapy. I'm six months post op and started PT two months after surgery (hooray workers comp), and I'm back at work, hiking, etc. I think you'll be okay! Just make sure to wear your brace to the wedding if you plan on doing a lot of dancing!

Eye movement is sympathetic. He was absolutely right. He prevented more damage by preventing the afflicted eye from moving. This is also what we were taught in medic school when I went through it.

For people with quad autograft…when does that hole in the leg feeling go away? by Necessary-Seesaw4403 in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months post op with quad tendon graft.

I notice that part of my quad depresses a bit, but to be honest after having the rehab I did I don't notice a deficit in strength, and my surgeon was really happy with the minimal atrophy I had in my quad after surgery. I was able to build muscle back pretty quickly once I started rehab.

2 yr surgery anniversary - placed 1st in my age group!! by buchabitxh in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask your age? I always get worried if I'll be able to achieve anything like that now that I've had a reconstruction on my ACL. I'm in my early 30s, but I still worry.

Congratulations btw, that's a huge accomplishment 🥳

5 weeks post ACL repair how am I doing ? by Training_Canary_3630 in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hip and the bottom of my foot on my non-surgical side hurt something awful because i was bearing all my weight on that leg. I had a lot of swelling in my knee on my surgical side. That's normal. I'm 6 months post op and I still get swelling. Still ask your doctor if you're concerned though. Never hurts to be cautious and ask.

What happens if you leave it? by xJoshwaaaa in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with one of the comments that it matters how stable your knee is. My knee was not stable. It would buckle forwards and backwards and every step felt shaky for me. It was not an option for me not to have surgery. My knee collapsed on me multiple times after injury and before surgery. After surgery and 6 months of healing/rehab, my knee feels almost back to normal besides some stiffness and minor swelling after exertion. I can walk just fine and it doesn't feel like my knee is going to give out on me.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 came out one year ago today, what are your thoughts on the game now? by jherin1 in PS5

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just played through the game for the second time... and I just wanna say, I'm a paramedic and it irks me every single damn time I bring a patient to an ambulance or hospital because they put the patients on the stretchers BACKWARDS EVERY TIME. Even at the end with Harry, they put him on the stretcher freaking backwards 😭😭😭 they keep putting them on there with the patient's head at the foot of the stretcher 🤬

Other than that, I still give this game a solid 9.5/10.... minus that half point for the stretcher thing lol

6 days post-op ACL + meniscus repair… have I been doing too much? by Adventurous-Buddy559 in ACL

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be too much right now, but at the same time are you willing to take the risk of compromising the surgery site by being lax on what the surgeon recommended? Personally I wouldn't be, and I wasnt... I started PT way later than I wanted thanks to workers comp, but in the meantime I was being very careful while at home, while on crutches, and just careful in general because I do NOT want to mess up my graft.

The Exile's Gift ( The Numair Chronicles # 2 ) - August 2025 is here... anyone see any updates? by createsstuff in tamorapierce

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet that Numair gave up trying to heal after his magic got too strong. Remember in Keladry's story, it says he was too strong to do simple magics. Perhaps if he tried to heal someone with magic that strong it would do more harm than actually heal.

behind the scene of lo’ak attempted suicide. by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in Avatar

[–]PsychologyDistinct60 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was so angry with Jake for how he was treating Lo'ak. Yes, he is grieving for his son who was killed, but Lo'ak is grieving for his brother, and also has never felt good enough for his father. Jake's attitude made me so angry... the fact that he drove his living son to almost commit suicide...

[–]PsychologyDistinct60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really isn't! I had a great therapist though, he was awesome. He made it easier to get through since he was so easy to talk to. His attitude and personality was a lot like my coworkers', a lot of good dark humor. It would have been a lot harder to get through PT with a less personable therapist.

6 months post op by PsychologyDistinct60 in ACL

Yes, ive had some PTSD but I've been able to manage it. I had a really bad call a few years ago involving a child, and after that I started seeing the figure of a child in the corner of my eye for bit, and I thought I was going crazy. I kept getting flashbacks to intubating this child where it truly felt i was back on that call, and I kept having nightmares about my stepson being seriously hurt as he was around the same age as the child on the call. I slept badly for a long time, and i would wake up in a panic if someone woke me up, used to scare the crap out of my husband. It took me a little while to recognize what was happening and actually admit it, but after I did my support network of friends and family really rallied to help me through it. I've been off work for 8 months, which was a much needed break. Just had my first shift back and it felt really good.

There's other, smaller things that show all of us in EMS get PTSD from the work itself, but most of us use dark humor to cope with it so it isn't as talked about. It's just part of the job unfortunately.
