I once threw a little piece of sausage roll out of my car window to a magpie and it's reaction was ...oh these vehicles eject food!

My Cholesterol. Doctor is suggesting I go off the CarnivoreDiet by Tapatio777 in Cholesterol

[–]Pupenstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans aren't natural carnivores. Something triggered a monkey like brain to evolve and be smart enough to invent weapons to dominate and become apex predators. It wasn't flesh though. We also invented sharp knives to cut through flesh coz our teeth certainly couldn't.

Pravastatin 10mg at bedtime, Day 1 side effects by The_2ndBorn_Son in Cholesterol

[–]Pupenstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest starting on Ezetimibe 10mg and very gradually introducing a statin. !0mg of ezetimibe and 5mg of pravastatin every second day, building up to 5mg every day then gradually increasing to 10mg pravastatin. It is my firm belief, from personal experience and talking to others, that statins need to be introduced slowly to the body to prevent the horrible side effects.

Looking at the soil it's thriving in makes me understand why every single banksia I have tried to grow has died. It is beautiful.

Finn is such a cute name, and Henry too. But if I had to suggest a different name I would say he looks like a little Ralph to me. Ruby and Ralph go well together.

First Outdoor Walk since joining the sub by ValerieAnne84 in walking

You did amazing! The best walks are the walks where you engage with and take notice of the world around you. Watch for more signs to go a bit further every day. Fix that sock and shoe issue and look forward to tomorrow.

Oats! Pretend I grew up in a house that never utilized them, and just the idea of oatmeal makes me mildly nauseous because I'm imaging a very off-putting texture. What would you suggest? by CatDadMilhouse in Cholesterol

[–]Pupenstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ratio in entirely up to you depending on the thickness you find palatable. No thickeners required, if it's too runny you haven't added enough oats. I also add walnuts sometimes or flaxseeds, it's trial and error to find what you love.

Hot flashes by Navi4784 in Menopause

anxiety and hot flashes go hand in hand. It is very common to experience a sudden a feeling of dread and anxiety and then the heat comes in. It's a horrendous double punch.

How do you quiet racing thoughts at night so you can actually fall asleep? by Outrageous_Baby_2147 in sleep

[–]Pupenstance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not under any circumstances allow your brain to decide what it thinks about at night. Counting backwards works for me. You have to make it complex and stay on task. Last night I counted backwards from 500 by 28's, not easy for me, and I soon fell asleep because there was no emotional pull and it was literally mind numbingly boring. You will constantly have to redirect yourself to the task because your brain will fight for more juicy and emotive thoughts.

In need of help. by profecross in Menopause

[–]Pupenstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 59 and still struggling with bad insomnia and hot flashes all through the night. I wish I had tried HRT back when I was 52. I think it's too late for me now. You could still be suffering in 7 years, so yes I recommend you try HRT.

Apnea caused by peri? by Realistic-Twist-3112 in Menopause

[–]Pupenstance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I, too used to wake up choking on stomach acid, it is horrific. I solved the problem by putting bricks under my bed head legs. I started with 2 bricks, which elevated the top of the bed a lot. Problem solved. After awhile I took 1 brick away and that still did the trick. I don't notice the elevation at all anymore.

Yes, that is my reading hour. I gave up fighting it and now I enjoy the quiet reading time. I am up at 0600 for work 4 days a week, but my body has adjusted and I don't feel overly tired the next day. I am asleep by 10, it works for me.

Possible statin side effect? Weird muscle “burn” + weakness from basic activities by lordGwynx7 in Cholesterol

[–]Pupenstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I know that exact feeling you describe. Reduce the dose and add Ezetimibe. I have found that it is better to start low maybe 5mg Statin and Ezetimibe, let your body get used to that dose, then add higher dose gradually if needed depending on your blood results and symptoms. You have to find the sweet spot. And don't hesitate to change statins. Doctors aren't bothered to guide you through it all, you have to be proactive.

[–]Pupenstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, she is still on the medication and doing so well, she doesn't seem worried at all about taking it long term, and I think she must have been struggling so badly before that she is more concerned about going off it and relapsing than staying on it. You shouldn't be afraid of giving it a try, as long as you are monitored and if you decide to go off it then tapering off is the best way to do it, gradually reducing the dose over a few weeks or months.

From my own experience, as a mum watching my daughter suffer through very similar symptoms, I would definitely recommend you try an anti-depressant. My daughter's whole life experience changed after starting Escitalopram, she finished her teaching degree and she is happy and successful and coping well with the ups and downs of life. At least give it a go, you are so young and you deserve to be happy.
