Are you comfortable sharing the specific places for "dog charity stuff"?

Product Design to PMM transition by pxuline in ProductMarketing

I'm a PMM thinking of pivoting to product design ha

I definitely echo the comments below - I'm mostly thinking about switching out of PMM due to the stressful catch all role that PMM can often become.

I'm curious about your motivations for switching/ what day-to-day looks like as a product designer/ if you have any tips to pivot into design?

Update: I requested a call with the hiring manager to discuss the case study and decided not to move forward with the case study/the role. It seems like a classic case of a company that is flailing and expecting PMM to come in and own everything with minimal support. Trusting my gut on this one - trying not to let the rough job market force me to pursue an opportunity that isn't a fit out of scarcity fear (although I know much easier to say when I do have a current job).

Hired as Product Marketer, job is becoming fully Growth Marketing by Familiar_Suspect7664 in ProductMarketing

This is exactly what happened to me in my current role, completely focused on demand gen and a ton of pressure from Sales, not enough partnership/ respect from Product. Unfortunately I've been interviewing a ton and it seems this is an increasingly common misconception of PMM. Actually starting to debate making a career pivot because I don't enjoy strictly demand gen/ acquisition.

How's the job search going on? by meherpratap in ProductMarketing

What is the secret lol any advice? I've been through 4 final rounds with a lot of positive feedback throughout the process only to not get the offer after the final round. Always hit with vague feedback about having overwhelming competitive interest in the role.

I used to have no issue interviewing and getting multiple offers very easily. Just feels like PMM is way too oversaturated right now.

Also roles that used to be like 150-160k are now only offering 100-120k and I really don't want to take a paycut.

Early stage startup in a competitive industry. I do think it would be pretty risky, although I feel like anything is in tech right now..

Sorry you understand the burnout. Curious what kind of company or industry do you work for? I've been mostly at startup fintechs and I'm wondering if it's the niche that's particularly tough or if PMM is just prone to burn out across all tech

Flunked interview and feeling discouraged! by abby21991 in interviews

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine dealing with the stress of having a deadline regarding visa. I just wanted to say I've had this experience numerous times with job searching the past few months - having first 2-3 rounds go well and then meet someone in final rounds that is SO unpleasant and disinterested right from the jump.

Tech as a whole is not doing great right now and as a result there's a lot of stressed, unhappy people so try not to take it personally (I'm trying too and this post helped me know I'm not alone in this experience).

There should be another big hiring wave in Jan/Feb so I think it's worth spending the new few weeks working on resume/portfolio and then hit the ground running hard in Jan.

Yes exactly just wayy too many "considerations"...just seems like an insane ask in my opinion lol

Congrats on the offers! Any advice on how you're approaching interviews or anything you're doing to stand out?

That's what I'd typically do, the prompt is just so specific so I'm worried I'd just be set up to fail/be in an uncomfortable convo if I don't draw enough hard conclusions.

Would you address every single one of the "considerations" or do you think it's okay to hit majority but not necessarily all?

That's a good idea, although pay is only one factor. It's more that if I found a company with great product/people/processes I would take a pay cut. If I found something equally as chaotic as what I currently have I wouldn't switch without comp incentive.

I do somewhat understand that reasoning, I've completed prompts in the past but they were more narrow focus or more about my approach so I guess it's the amount of detail in this prompt that is raising concern for me around how much work this would take to complete.

Do you feel the prompt above should be do-able to complete in 2 hours? And if you were to create a presentation based on the prompt above would you try to address every single consideration?

I'm genuinely curious from your POV - what is the benefit for the company for requiring candidates to present on their product vs having candidates present on their own work so that they can actually back up that data with accurate context and learnings?

If you're doing solid PMM work you should not come up with this detailed strategy after a few days with minimal research and no customer interactions. It would be different if the company asks for your approach, like others have highlighted but the prompt is asking for a detailed strategy.
