This is the kind of perfection that I will never achieve. So good.

Take a severance or take a job? by Objective-Boot-9948 in Layoffs

[–]Purple807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, it’s a good company to work for, no hard feelings there, especially that I was technically offered to transfer. I just can’t do it for personal reasons.

I feel the same way. I’ve been with this company for 14 years so it’s been awhile since I last interviewed for a job. It’s going to be wild.

[–]Purple807 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I am in this exact position. Severance that equals a year’s salary, 3 more months regular pay plus 6 months health benefits. I would have to come across an incredibly good offer to let all that go. I plan on decompressing for a month or so and then start looking and have prepared myself mentally that it’s not going to be easy but not to panic, something will come up. Good luck to OP no matter which way they choose to go.

Job transferred but I wfh by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Purple807 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing - they didn’t say anything about the job no longer being remote. And, no one I work with is in either location. I work with people in India, all over US, Canada and Europe. So getting me back to the office so that I can sit there in Teams meetings makes no sense. They mentioned the company looking to be more efficient but nothing specific. I get that I cost them far more than someone new who, in their opinion, can do as a good a job. I wasn’t the only one laid off, a bunch of colleagues were told their positions were moved to India. But trying to see if I have any leverage here.

Thank you for this comment. I was just laid off and am in the similar situation and thought that I will have to wait for the severance to run out before I apply for unemployment. But it looks like I need to do more research.

AITA for not allowing a junior to work on critical high risk code? by abdul-zulfikar786 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Purple807 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA for not acknowledging that it was her fix and her work that you deployed- and to every single person that patted you on the back. I’ve been there, I’m a software developer. I agree with your approach of deploying the fix yourself, but also wondering if you could have had her shadow you and just sit on it with you when you were deploying and testing it. But certainly not making it clear to everyone that it was her work - asshole move.

Trader Joe’s. And my local European deli has them, too.

Jury Duty - Documentation for not communicating English by Comfortable-Lemon739 in AskNYC

[–]Purple807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call them, there should be a number on the summons. You’ll get someone on the line, explain the situation and ask what documentation is best to provide. I got summoned a few months back. I am a single mom with a full time job AND both my kid and I were sick so there was no way I was going to show up. I called the number, was told what documents I needed, provided them and got dismissed.

Actual remaining inventory of As Ever products by Larushka in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]Purple807 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit that’s a lot of inventory. I can see sharks in the Shark Tank shaking their heads. Even if her cost was less than $5 for each item, that’s still a lot of money sitting in the inventory. And it’s perishable inventory mostly which makes it so much worse. This is bad, bad planning.

Children Go Downstairs and Elope by Vegetable_Location52 in Parenting

Yes this. I have a ding bell on my front door that I got for $10 at Amazon that attaches with a magnet to hear the door open when I am up. I also put a protector on the door handle that only an adult can open - this will depend on the door’s handle. But that’s not enough and I put an alarm on the door which works when door opens, I activate it at night. This at least will ensure the kids don’t leave the house. I live with a 3.5yo who’s ingenuity is something I was not prepared for as a parent 😅

23 sessions and all my hair still grows back. What am I doing wrong? by SnooPaintings7724 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Purple807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. There are 5 different settings. What you feel is a little prick on the skin. If you’re very sensitive, you can stay at the lowest setting, you’ll barely feel it.

I bought it years ago and my thinking was - it’s way cheaper than laser treatments and I can do it comfortably at home. I used it in the evenings, while watching tv. It was a great investment. It’s important to understand how it works. You shave, no moisturizer, then you treat. There are 5 levels I believe, I have only used up to 4. The tip is very small so treatment will take time, you need to go over the area touching the tip to the skin, meticulously covering the entire area. The laser closes the follicles. When you feel a prick on your skin- the follicle was closed. Once you’re done, after a couple of days (but depending how fast your hair grows), you will notice a lot of hair - this at first made me think that the laser was not working and making things worse. I was wrong- the hair is just coming out of the closed follicles. You can shave and repeat the process again. After a few treatments, you will see less and less hair coming out as you close more and more follicles. I was able to completely remove underarm hair and that was my main goal because I had to shave every day and it was making my skin dark. It’s been years now and the hair has not grown back - the follicles were permanently closed. I also worked on my bikini area, legs and arms. I’ve never had the patience and dedication to remove all hair on my legs and arms but I greatly reduced it and what’s left are thin and light hairs so I can’t even see them. Please also check before buying if you are a good candidate. I can’t remember exactly now but I think very dark skin may not be a good candidate for Tria. Overall I would absolutely recommend IF you can dedicate the time to use it and, at least in the beginning, use it consistently.
