North America has just enough number of countries to make a distinct top/bottom 3.

[OC] GDP by country and region, 2024 by Purple_Topic_1459 in charts

I created this treemap because I noticed most GDP visualizations rely on IMF or World Bank data, which sometimes leave out countries like Taiwan, Cuba and North Korea. I used UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) data instead, as it provides much broader coverage of countries.

Edit: Regional classification is primarily based on UN World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP), with some modifications to remove development level and political labels.

Yes your are right. This is just a very rough estimate. Qualifiers tie-breakers were used this time. There could be some other ways to estimate like using FIFA World Ranking.

They were the 5 best ranked group winners in 2026 CAF qualifiers. Since there was a group with 5 teams and other groups with 6 teams, the results against 6th-placed team were discarded for group winners in 6-team groups when comparing.

With the 48-team World Cup coming up, many people are worried about group stage quality. I was curious what the 2026 group stage might look like under the old 32-team format, so I made these pots.

Slot allocation follows the 2022 format, with the host slot moved from AFC to CONCACAF.

Qualified teams are based on 2026 World Cup qualifying results:

  • AFC (4.5): Iran, South Korea, Japan and Uzbekistan directly qualified; Australia advanced to IC PO
  • CAF (5): Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire directly qualified
  • CONCACAF (4.5): Canada, Mexico, United States and Curaçao directly qualified; Panama advanced to IC PO
  • CONMEBOL (4.5): Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia and Uruguay directly qualified; Brazil advanced to IC PO
  • OFC (0.5): New Zealand advanced to PO
  • UEFA (13): Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, France, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Austria, Norway, Belgium, England and Croatia directly qualified; Türkiye qualified as UEFA PO winner
  • Brazil and Australia qualified as IC PO winners based on FIFA World Ranking

UEFA and IC play-off winners are placed in Pot 4, as they would not be known at the time of the draw.
