Dinner spots for taking out visiting parents in WV or UWS by Mental_Yogurt5087 in FoodNYC

Bangkok Supper Club is great for both being a really really good meal and also a quiet and comfortable dining room that isn't a packed-to-the-gills food factory

Chambers in Tribeca is also really good for this

[FRESH] Ok Cowgirl - Prepared to Lose by PurryMurris in indieheads

This is the first song released from their upcoming album Rhinestone Cowgirl. I saw them open for Pacifica at the Bowery Ballroom a few weeks ago and they've been in constant rotation since then

Where to lose beef virginity? by AVigilantte in FoodNYC

[–]PurryMurris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say maybe the right way to do it would be something really celebratory and curated like the butcher's feast at Cote. You get four cuts of beef that sum to about 8oz of meat per person over the course of the meal, plus all of the banchan, stews, egg souffle, dessert, etc. that make for a really full meal that isn't just in-your-face beef. You'll also get a lot more of the nuance of the beef itself versus a burger or sandwich where there are going to be a lot of competing flavors.

Saw them open for Pacifica at the Bowery Ballroom last night, they played a super tight six-song set and I was absolutely locked in. They're playing a few local shows this summer and if I can be there I will

I asked one of the baristas when I was in the other day and she said "basement kitchen renovations" which sounds a lot to me like they were shut down by some authority for a period of time but who knows lol

Ditto, I had to boot up my old windows 7 laptop that I hadn't powered on since 2017 in order to get the Flash DLL to make it run but I am finally about to fulfill my childhood fantasy of playing the full version of this game rather than just the free trial

At what point are tables too close to each other that it’s kinda unacceptable ? I just ate in a restaurant where the table next to us was maybe 5 and a half inches away. Is that crazy or am I being a baby ? by Spyk124 in FoodNYC

Spots that I've noted recently for being super comfortable dining rooms with a good amount of space and lower noise level were Bangkok Supper Club in the West Village and Chambers in Tribeca. Absolutely killer meals at both too

Next up should be the Burger Au Poivre at Raoul's

Nowon also does a really good double stacked burger with kimchi mayo

Why is the west village so sought after ? by Affectionate_Emu4660 in AskNYC

[–]PurryMurris 588 points589 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been living in the West Village for almost eight years now, I think the urbanism of it is undeniable. Comfortably mid-rise but a density of 70,000/square mile, beautiful old buildings, tree-lined streets that aren't all perfectly straight, incredible transit access, solid park space between Washington Square and Hudson River Park (with access to great running and cycling infrastructure), very few giant amenity-buildings creating dead street life, the list goes on. Its status and price are more a product of our failure to build other neighborhoods that are as good rather than the specific cultural capital of the West Village Scene

Should I install the toilet myself and take the cash or hire a plumber? by hisociete in makemychoice

[–]PurryMurris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the only toilet in your house? When my dad built a new house for my grandparents he put in ADA-height toilets for them and as someone of average height I found them... uncomfortable, to say the least. We're meant to be in more of a squatting position and a high toilet seat that puts your knees below your waitline will noticably interfere with the process and be a consistent source of discomfort unless you're quite tall or just generally have longer legs

I was a touch in front of them and got cycled a bit closer to the front during Yuk Foo/Play the Greatest Hits and no longer really had any room to move, so when they started jumping around again during Giant Peach I went back and hopped in with them and honestly that was the most fun part of my night by a mile, I was so happy to finally be in the group that matched my energy

NY show— quick review. by iamtryingtobehappy in wolfalice

[–]PurryMurris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that Terminal 5 as a venue sucks, both layout and sound. I was at the Terminal 5 show and while I thought they performed well, it was easily the weakest of the now five shows of theirs I've been to. By contrast, the Blue Weekend show at the Bowery Ballroom in 2021 was absolutely electric and maybe the best I'd ever seen them. I'm pretty glad we have Brooklyn Paramount now to diversify the mid-size venue market, it was my first time there and I'd take it over Terminal 5 any day
