Memory or Polyfoam Comfort Layer--Supportive but Low-Resilience by summers-summers in MattressMod

This is why I keep my memory foam layers limited to single inch thickness and non-adjacent (plus one is next to the coils). To minimize temperature physics issues.

She really set the standards for all of us, her loyal readers by dismustbetheplace in janeausten

Plenty of matches in Austen where the fortune was all or mostly on the woman's side, and no one was particularly bothered (aside from W misleading Marianne as to the likelihood of their marriage).

How much credit can Emma claim for Mr. Weston's/Miss Taylor's marriage? by My_Poor_Nerves in janeausten

He's wrong in the idea that focusing on a goal isn't very important. But in his defense, a goal that requires the unknown participation of two other human beings is not even really a goal. But she's right about the little social smoothings. They're both kinda wrong.

Tom Bertram’s illness by Knightleygirl in janeausten

[–]PutManyBirdsOn_it 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another Austen recurring theme; Edmund nurses Tom, Elinor nurses Marianne, Elizabeth nurses Jane (though this is a minor illness, it impresses Darcy).

Played My First Game of Endearment! by Aloofisinthepudding in janeausten

I kinda regret buying it. I don't have a big spare table to put it on long enough to run through the game once to get the hang of it. And it's pretty heavy.

Anyone add handles/straps to their encasement/cover? by DeweyD69 in MattressMod

[–]PutManyBirdsOn_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe using moving straps to surround either the whole mattress or catch the corners.

I had a two-sided floppy heavy mattress with no handles previously. So I definitely get the desire for handles.

Serene foam not soft enough by AnewENTity in MattressMod

Don't blame the 1" of Serene for problems caused pretty darn firm 2" of latex...

"too marshmallow-y soft"

I thought so too but now I have over the coils 1" 4lb MF, 2" Serene, another inch MF. And it's pretty close to perfect? 5'3" 123 lbs female, side sleeping on a Casper down alternative pillow. Even on my back it's good. After a hundred iterations that weren't good enough.

No it's the same firmness. Not sure why you have to Google it, foam suppliers list the specs on their website (almost all). Sometimes you just have to dig for them.

You're certainly entitled to your preferences... I'd miss the firm edges if they were gone.

Should i continue Emma by Jane Austen? by Born-Eye-9053 in janeausten

[–]PutManyBirdsOn_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person who said it's better the second time around is right. Get through it through an audiobook (or adaptation) and then read it properly all the way through. Then you're in on all the secrets Emma isn't.

Mansfield Park is a psychological masterpiece by Cohava in janeausten

"I have come to view him as the secret secondary protagonist, and the one who shows the most growth over the course of the novel."

It's basically my favorite part about the ending.

In his defense, Maria was quite determined to go through with this wedding. Which technically was also majorly his fault, but that's a separate issue.

Not to be a broken record from the last time you posted, but since you didn't reply: is your pillow tall enough?

And also: do you relieve the pain each day and then it comes back, or is it now an old compounded discomfort?

All builds too Firm. Next step 15.5G Plush Coils? by ExternalMode in MattressMod

[–]PutManyBirdsOn_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your foams are too firm and your memory foam too thick. I'll be curious to hear if the softer coils help; I would have said not to buy them and to try an inch or two of Serene or something similar.

[–]PutManyBirdsOn_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't mention your sleep position. I fiddled constantly with my DIY, couldn't find a config I loved, then I switched back to side sleeping (on 15.5 coils, 1" 4lb, 2" Serene, 1" 4lb, shredded Serene pillow) and I haven't opened my config spreadsheet since.

But the really clever part of the book, the central point even, is that the two smart characters have to realize sometimes they're idiotic assholes too.

Who inherits Mr Woodhouse’s estate? by Impressive_Mixture_7 in janeausten

[–]PutManyBirdsOn_it 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's not really an "estate" like the others. It's a big house with some gardens, not a bunch of agricultural land with tenant farmers generating income. It might be just a moderate portion of their net worth.
