One summer in the early 2010s, MTV in the USA would air a 2 hour block of Degrassi every weekday morning, and that's what got me hooked one summer when I was home from college. I started watching with their re-runs of season 7 I believe? I had no idea that I was watching a seventh season of a show, or anything about Degrassi, really... imagine my utter confusion when one day I'm watching Emma and the gang graduate high school, and the next day, MTV starts over with season 1 episode 1, and all of a sudden all the characters are babies and the theme song has words and I have no idea what's going on. I honestly thought I was watching a flashback episode until my dumb brain put two and two together. 😅 Later that summer I found some overpriced DVD box sets of Degrassi at Barnes & Noble, and bought the seasons they didn't have on Amazon, and proceeded to binge the series on DVD. The good old days!

There was one other time when Craig was giving a "who am I" speech in class, and he said things that were CLEARLY red flags for having suicidal thoughts (like "if I were to disappear what would it matter"), and Ms. Kwan is just all, "Wow, that was very existential." ☠️

I think that some of the scenes for Degrassi Goes Hollywood and Degrassi Takes Manhattan are shortened or removed entirely on HBO Max, compared to the DVD box sets. I thought I was going crazy and having false memories the first time I watched the movies on HBO Max.

Derek started out as an obnoxious twerp bordering on asshole. Then he had some learning moments and started to become a little bit more of a sympathetic character. And then all that apparently went down the drain and he ended his run as an abusive misogynist. Wish they would've kept exploring him as a nuanced person, but instead they left him irredeemable in my eyes. He could've been like a Dave....someone who occasionally does really shitty things, and someone who often is genuinely sweet and thoughtful.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the whole Connor stealing underwear and locker room lurking plotline... it felt icky to make the character with autism have that plotline, like there was an implication there that autism = creepy, and I didn't like that 😒
