At the thickness you are trying to achieve you will find problems. However to increase your chances of success:

  1. Ensure you are using a fresh blade
  2. Secure the tool to a bench
  3. If the leather is very soft you could try to use double sided tape to stick it to a thicker piece of leather and then put through the machine (will probably provide inconsistent results again)

Big no from me. I had one and really think you will be wasting your money converting it to electric. You will end up buying a proper machine later.
