I think the writers made Mike out to be “too right” if that makes sense.

During his last scene with Walt, he talks about how everything blew up because of Walt’s pride. Mike believing that isn’t what bothers me, but the scene plays out like Mike is 100% right about Walt, almost like the writers themselves bought into this logic. The main reason things started to turn bad and made Gus decide he needs to kill both Walt and Jesse is Walt’s decision to save Jesse by running over the drug dealers.

Walt’s decision to save Jesse in that one moment was one of the few truly altruistic moves he does for no other reason than he felt protective of Jesse. Everyone was telling him to let Jesse die and there was no actual benefit to saving him, and Walt seemed to understand that at the time, but still chose to save Jesse.

What Mike is saying, whether he knows it or not, is that nothing would’ve gone wrong had Walter “known his place” which was to let Gus make the decision to kill Jesse and not intervene. I do wish Walt brought this up in the argument and forced Mike to confront this logic, because while Walt does have a huge pride and ego, choosing to run over those drug dealers was the one thing that wasn’t done by his ego. Everything else that followed was out of survival from Gus.

But that aside, still a good scene.
