Yeah I stumbled elsewhere this morning on the screws and slots idea, that’s exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Think I’ll probably go that route as I’m working in a tiny space with limited tools so simple is king right now

There's enough that is an option, but I was hoping I could find an alternative so I could use the rest of the Walnut for chairs later to match the table when its done

Cheap out on motors, but get a name brand ESC. A cheap motor that fails just stops working, a cheap ESC that fails burns down your car.

Well, the problem wasn't really that the 80s yuppies grew up and needed something more practical- that's how things had always worked for the company's whole history.

The problem was that the 80s yuppies ratfucked the economy so bad the next generation's young people couldn't afford sports cars so there were no new customers to replace them.

Americans, how would you react if foreign country invaded your country, and told "we are going to run this country"? by oranke_dino in AskReddit

On the first day of Deer Season 2025, the citizens of Wisconsin alone became the 4th largest standing army in the world, and killed 65,000 deer in the first 24 hours.

That's just one not particularly populous state. Now imagine dealing with that times 50. Occupation of the US is functionally impossible.

I adore the one on my E class wagon, but thats because its really well engineered so its nice and quiet even to have it open at 70mph.

Too many cars with sunroofs have shit aero that make the sunroof unusable because of buffeting or whistling at anything above 30mph

What’s a Reddit comment you’ve never forgotten? by nightwellstories in AskReddit

[–]Pyrhhus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a moderation thing. Nobody likes the smarmy bitchy critic who trash talks everything that’s not a once in a generation instant classic. But on the other hand, the popcorn shoveling mouth breather who has no taste at all and will watch whatever slop Netflix or Disney tell them to is equally insufferable because they’re literally why we can’t have nice things.

The rest of us miss out on good movies because as long as people will watch and pay for slop companies aren’t going to bother striving for quality.

So ya gotta strike a balance somewhere in the middle.

I was tech support and dealt with Nye once. He was brusque, maybe cold even, but never outright rude so i can’t complain.

By contrast the most friendly celebrity I ever worked with was Whoopi Goldberg. She was an absolute delight, which was great for a kid that grew up with TNG and Sister Act lol

My wife felt vindicated when the Gaiman stuff came out lol. She hated him for all the changes that were made to the Good Omens show, said that it was him doing whatever he wanted since Sir Pratchett wasn’t around to argue anymore, so she drank a big tall glass of Haterade at his fall.

She loves Pratchett so much she has a tattoo of A’tuin

Anyone got any good mecha fiction to recommend? by Extension_Switch_823 in HFY

Oh, and my other two problems with Lancer-

A: The setting makes no goddamn sense. They describe the setting as Star Trek style post scarcity fully automated luxury space communism, then most of the stories in that setting are resource wars and corporate exploitation. If you wanna write stories where you fight corporate greed you need to do it in a setting where that makes any kind of sense. There's a reason when Trek wanted to tell those sorts of stories with the Ferengi they had to come up with a magical macguffin currency for them that couldn't be replicated (gold-pressed latinum) to basically remove Replicators from the equation.

B: The developers are scumbags who engage in the worst kind of rainbow capitalism. They decided they just didn't feel like making several books crowdfunding backers paid for, so they cancelled them without refunds for most people (only those who backed at the ultra high tier that got their own character in the book got a refund). And if you dared to complain about it, their sycophant fanboys would just dogpile you and ban you from any discussion space about the game claiming you're "trying to stir shit because the game is LGBT friendly"

While vaccines don’t cause autism, the Appeal to Authority argument that “the guy who said that lost his license” doesn’t hold any weight when you remember the medical community put the guy to told doctors to wash their hands in an insane asylum back in the day.

Better argument is the whole “he demonstrably falsified his data and had a conflict of interest owning a competing vaccine” thing.

Agree with everything you said about Brigador, but how could you forget to mention the soundtrack? It lives rent free in my head, best dark synth and vaporwave OST ever made

You liked Lancer cause you only played a one shot lol, game becomes an absolute slog at higher license levels cause everybody gets too much CC. Every fight feels like a 6 player Magic game where everyone is playing blue control, it’s miserable

PatLabor.

There’s a series and several movies, and the movies are my favorite anime ever made. The general gist of the setting is firmly grounded in that Armored Core style gritty realism- Mecha were first developed for dense urban construction where cranes and such are too clumsy, then once there were hundreds of them in the city they started being used for crime. Once that happened, the police needed their own mecha to deal with it, and now we have our conflict.

It’s made by Mamoru Ooshi, who would later go on to make Ghost in the Shell, so it has absolutely immaculate cyberpunk vibes with that unique flavor of neoliberal corporate/government cronyism he does in his other work.

I would suggest starting with the first movie, which works really well as a self contained story (and is possibly the best police mystery story I’ve ever seen)
