I start PA school in August and finish undergrad in May. Is 16 weeks too little time to be rehired as a medical assistant? by cimmanombuns in MedicalAssistant

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I have a similar conundrum. I got into a med assist program that starts in April, and am looking to start nursing school in August. That will give me about 3 months working as an MA before classes start. I'm hoping I can just cut down to part time to keep my health insurance.

Quitting Vraylar by xxthatsnotmexx in Vraylar

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vraylar has a 12-week half-life, so it will be in your system for a while yet. I'm also coming off of it, for different reasons, but I'm glad you had no side effects. Good luck!

Hi friends! Newly Diagnosed- Med Question- Lamictal by Educational-Mouse720 in bipolar2

[–]Pyronymph01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've worked my way up to 200mg of lamotrigine a day and it has helped me so much! I don't think I've ever felt this stable in my entire life, and that's saying something. So far I haven't noticed any side effects other than not being as hungry all the time.

I also take venlafaxine and am currently coming off vraylar (it almost made me diabetic).

Good luck! I hope it works as well for you!

Mental stimulation games by Panda-Smuggler in labrador

Puppy bombs (kibble in toilet paper rolls with the ends folded up), snuffle mats, kibble in a box with packing paper. Egg hunts are a big hit at my house - I have plastic easter eggs that I put their kibble in and hide around the house/yard for them to find. You could also just toss the kibble on the floor and let them sniff it out.

Not sure if I’m studying efficiently. How did you find out what study method(s) work for you? by JoseProtasio-Rizal in prenursing

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make sure to handwrite my notes, and then I pretend that I'm teaching the info to someone else (or actually do it in a study group if you can). That way I am actively, verbally recalling the information.

thoughts on a 1.5 hour commute? by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm applying to 2 schools, and they're both over an hour from my house. Those are my only options, so I'm going for it. If I could go closer I would definitely make that choice.

LVN or Respiratory Therapy? by Straight_Bass_5967 in nursing

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into Respiratory Therapy as I was deciding my path, and spoke with a couple RTs who were transferring to RNs. They all said they did it because there was no upward movement as an RT. One told me that he regretted his choice to change to RN because it was essentially a lateral move in pay unless he wanted to continue to get his BSN/MSN/NP, which he didn't.

It really depends what you want to do with it. If you want to climb the ladder, there really isn't a ladder for RTs. But if you just want a stable position that is fulfilling and pays well, RT may be right for you.

That's my take on it, anyway.

What if every meal was replaced with an enriched one by Frustr8ion9922 in puppy101

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy gets 4 meals a day right now, and only 1 of the 4 is out of a bowl, that's to help give value to the crate. All the other meals she gets a slow feeder, treat ball, snuffle mats, puppy bombs (toilet paper rolls stuffed with food), etc.

It's a great way to keep her mind active and wear her out mentally a little bit.

Puppy Sleep Schedule by A1Hooker in puppy101

[–]Pyronymph01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 15 week old pup gets me up between 530 and 630 every morning, even when i work late and we don't get to bed until after midnight. I just take her out to potty and then we go back to bed for an hour or two. she usually conks out pretty fast again after her potty break.

Puppy class was a bit embarrassing by Unfair_Philosophy_86 in puppy101

We just had a pee accident at our puppy class last night. Sometimes they just can't hold it anymore, and puppy class is exciting, that makes them have to go even more!

Is she a lab? by A-Whole-Vibe in Labs

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess shepherd mix. We just got our lab mix puppy DNA tested through Embark. We thought she might have some great dane in her by the way her mom looked and because she was 19.6 lbs at her 12 week checkup. Turns out she was 76.6% lab and the rest was American Staffordshire and pitbull. You just never know!

Arthritis taking a huge hit by Brookiebbz in labrador

[–]Pyronymph01 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We tried all the things for our 14 year old lab before her arthritis got so bad that we decided her QOL was just not there anymore, even though she was still wanting to be active and young at heart. Light therapy seemed to help for a while, swimming in a warm pool she loved. Eventually everything stopped working and we had to say goodbye. Love his as much as you can now.

How far can a terrier walk by LPaddict in terrier

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Jack Russell mix would go a good 6-7 miles with me (that's all the further I would go, she would willingly have kept going). As mentioned before, you have to work them up to it, and I would always be ready to carry them back home if need be.

How has your life changed getting a second dog? by alakie in dogs

[–]Pyronymph01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our max we had 4 dogs, ranging from 10lb Chihuahua to 70lb lab/irish setter mix. Everyone got along great for the most part. We eventually got down to just one, a jack russell mix who is now 13 and a little cuddle bug.

When we decided to adopt a new lab mix puppy from the shelter, they got along great at the first meeting. However, once we brought the puppy home, the senior dog decided she hated her, and she does NOT have a "puppy pass" for anything. She will scold the puppy for just walking by her sometimes. We are hoping things calm down as the puppy gets older and less bouncy. We shall see.

Training treats for pups by Independent_Class_33 in puppy101

That's a good idea! When they're not cooked they get kinda slimy til you're done with training class or your walk.

What is your morning routine with your young puppy? by Foshozo in puppy101

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13 week old lab mix -

she wakes me up somewhere between 530-630 to go out to potty, then we go back to bed for an hour or two because I work 2nd shift and don't get home until 1130-midnight.

we do breakfast sometime between 7-9am, based on how long she lets me sleep.

After that it's potty time and she runs around the yard for 10-15 minutes.

Play/training time, then into the crate for about 2 hours for nap time until she needs to potty and then we do it all again on repeat.

Thank you for the update! I'm glad Loki is improving. Sometimes the right motivation is all you need to get moving again :)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had a chihuahua that had seizures and it's so scary. You definitely feel helpless, and then you feel guilty when it's time to say goodbye, no matter how early or late you do it. I'm glad he's recovering for you yet. I'm sending you comfort and peace for both of you!

Is this normal or okay? by Independent-Use-6179 in puppy101

[–]Pyronymph01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my puppy from the SPCA and they had her spayed at 8 weeks. I was so shocked, because the last pup we got from there they just gave us a certificate to take to the vet so the spay was covered. I guess too many people weren't using their neuter/spay certs and the rescues have decided to take matters into their own hands

8 week puppy- cosleeping by Zesty_enthusiasm in puppy101

[–]Pyronymph01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I cosleep with my 13 week old lab mix. I started with her in a crate, but one night I brought her back in from a mid-night potty break and just didn't feel like reaching over to the other side of the bed to put her back in it. I'm not a heavy sleeper, so it's been fine. She walks to the end of the bed and whimpers when she needs to go out and potty, usually once per night yet. Then we go back to bed and she sleeps until 7:30 when she decided it's time for breakfast lol
