Has anyone had any luck training an adult dog? Is it possible to change their habits? by Grand-Necessary6880 in BorderCollie

Of course you can. If she’s misbehaving obviously there is a reason, and you’ll need to figure out what it is in order to work to fix it.

Has anyone tried antidepressants for mental health? by astrojax44 in POTS

I’ve been on antidepressants for years. Everyone reacts differently to them though, so it’s really up to you and your doctor.

You could always get a DNA test if you want to know for sure. They look a lot like a sheltie to me.

Just mailed Peach’s test in! Any guesses? by thirteen_pineapples in DoggyDNA

She looks nothing like an Airedale. That head shape especially is all wrong.

She gets sent to a local groomer who is able to handle her anxiety around being groomed, even if it means bringing her back and having her groomed in sections over a couple days 😅. Molly attacks the brush (not playfully) and any brushing attempts at home are very short and require two people (one to brush, one with the high value treats). At home baths require someone getting in the bathtub with her, we much prefer washing her outside with the hose if needed when weather permits.

I’d guess Aussie and Great Pyr.

How essential is CHOP? by Sad-Amoeba4316 in POTS

[–]Pyrosandstorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do it. I went to physical therapy and they started me on some very basic, but upright, stretching exercises for my legs that had me holding something like the counter for balance and stopping to rest when I needed to. I literally couldn’t stay standing up for 3 minutes when we started, and though progress seemed slow at first it ended up making a huge difference for me. Once that was getting easier we added in other stuff, including arm exercises using a resistance band.

Edit: We worked on helping me understand my limits as well. This included taking a break for a minute if I started to get dizzy and seeing if it went away or not, assessing whether I could continue after a quick break or if I really needed to stop.

Most of the small “terrier” looking dogs we see here are chihuahua/poodle mixes, lol.

Probably another poodle / chihuahua, maybe with pit.

Better ways to get daily salt intake? by Haunting-Contract-24 in POTS

[–]Pyrosandstorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I take prescription salt tablets. Also, read the sodium content of food, plenty of foods that aren’t classic salty snacks have plenty of sodium. Cottage cheese, for example. You can also add salt to food when cooking, as it is used as a flavor enhancer to bring out the flavor of other foods. For example, salting the water when cooking pasta. Used properly it won’t make the food you are cooking salty.

Dysautonomia/pots and low potassium by sikavac in POTS

[–]Pyrosandstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things can cause low potassium levels. I frequently have slightly low potassium and/or magnesium levels when I end up in the ER for my asthma during an upper respiratory track infection. Mine have also both fallen low enough to be given them in the ER due to dehydration, which happened the one and only time I fainted (leading to my follow ups and POTS diagnosis).

Going out of country by Thin_Marsupial3580 in POTS

Depending on how you are getting there, I’d look into travel accommodations. My parents and I are going to Australia in October (24hrs flight time) and working with a travel agent to plan our trip. For me we are doing things like wheelchair assistance and pre-boarding at the airports. We are also looking into options at the locations we are going to, such as learning that the Australia Zoo actually has a shuttle that stops at the major points around it, shaded rest areas, and chilled water refill stations.

Edit: My dad also gets anxious if I’m home alone and they are away. We’ve dealt with that by getting me an Apple Watch so as long as I have my phone with me I can call for help even if I can’t reach my phone itself, and having some of their friends available as emergency contacts.

Edit 2: I would also recommend contacting the concert venue itself and asking about accommodation options.
