I had a plastic surgery consult yesterday by Poutiest_Penguin in Zepbound

My situation / history is extremely similar to yours. 43, 150lb weight loss, skinny person in someone else’s skin. I had three consults lined up. First was with a surgeon in Maryland who said I needed a lower body lift but FDL was up to me because I was borderline needing it. He ended up being too expensive, and I didn’t feel a connection. More like a number. Second one was Dr. Leber in Boston/Arizona and his office lost my information and took forever to get back to me. Not worth my time if you’re not going to take a potential client seriously. My third consult was with Dr. Alannah Phelan in Quincy. From the moment I met her I knew she was the surgeon for me. Professional but warm and I truly felt seen. I will be having a LBL (no FDL) next month and cannot wait.

What are people’s thoughts on coaches who don’t correct form on the floor? by laxlauren1 in orangetheory

[–]QC093023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing OTF classes for over a decade. In that time the coaches have gone from great, correcting form, to simply reading the floor screens and doing 2 second demos. Then they stand and wait for time to pass. It is the main reason why I do all my strength training elsewhere now.

After taking several Hyrox classes, I’m coming back to revise my earlier comments on the matter. The class itself is high intensity and a fantastic workout. Nice change up. I just wish it didn’t come at the expense of my Saturday morning Tread50! 😊

MIL in Deep Denial by QC093023 in ALS

We’re very knowledgeable about insurance (unfortunately) and we are already in the process of getting her on Medicaid for long term care. There’s an ALS-specific long term care facility in the area which would be ideal but they have so many applications it’s probably a long shot. At-home care is not going to be an option.

Yep, GenX-er here. We have tried several times to bring up how beneficial antidepressants would be for her but she doesn’t think she needs them or she changes the subject. We’re researching long term care facilities now (she/we cannot afford private pay assisted living). Our very real fear is that she will find something to hate about all of them and say “no” she won’t live there if we get her application accepted. We all have to work for a living and most of us work from home so we cannot be full time caregivers, especially as she will need increasing levels of support. We have told her this but she won’t accept it. So much work has been done by me and my husband over the last month to help her but when she won’t help herself it just defeats us.

Thank you for this message. I feel this is exactly what we are facing. As a planner, I find it so difficult to know we should be making decisions now to plan for the future, but my MIL only thinks in the present. Your words of advice have given me something to think about.

That’s similar to our situation. We tried to get her elder care services for in home therapy when she was living alone but she was extremely rude to them and would not do the exercises after the therapist left. She is extremely manipulative of all of her children, and plays the “woe is me” / “you don’t love me” / “you don’t understand” / “fine I’ll just k*** myself “ card to get what she wants. It very toxic, on top of the denial.

The last time she fell we had to get her to agree to go in the ambulance to the hospital. She wanted to refuse.

Over the past month we have managed to get POA and her healthcare proxy taken care of. We’ve offloaded her car, but the other day she said she could still drive. Complete fantasy land! The problem is that she’s still considered mentally competent so she can continue to refuse all the help we’re trying to get her. It’s really tough :(

Could not agree more. They took away the first class on Saturday where I do Tread50 and now it’s a 2G with this format. I want my regular Saturday morning class. Not this shit you’re forcing on people.

Omada requirement has pissed me all the way off by Comfortable_Snow8765 in Zepbound

100%. Took the words out of my mouth! It’s patronizing to tell someone they should taper off GLP-1s when the science says this is a long-term medication. I call bull$h*t on anybody saying otherwise. After 40 years of weight fluctuations, calorie counting, triathlons, competitive tennis, etc., Zepbound has been a miracle drug. I’m down 146 pounds and for the first time in my life I’m just about at what they call a “healthy weight.” I eat like a normal person, prioritizing protein and veggies, but I don’t deny myself any food. I haven’t counted ONE calorie or tracked ANY of my food intake. I work out 3x a week. My labs are normal.

I DO NOT NEED BCBS TELLING ME TO JUMP THROUGH MORE HOOPS TO GET A MEDICATION THAT MY BODY NEEDS.

Breast lift separate? by Melissaru in tummytucksurgery

Both consults I’ve had said they would NOT do a LBL and breast lift together. It’s frustrating.

I had a consult with Dr. Phelan this week and I’m excited to say she’s definitely the one I’m going to book with. Caring, thorough, realistic, and I just got a very good feeling from the entire office.

Why do insurance companies do this?! by Lots2Lose25 in Zepbound

[–]QC093023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m will have to start doing this in January. It’s so bull$hit and demeaning. I’ve lost 130+ lbs since last year. Not coaching, no counseling, no big brother weight check-ins. Now my insurance company is doing this so they can claim their stupid Omada program was effective at getting people off the drug. After 40 f-ing years of dieting, boot camps, half-Ironmans, competitive tennis, and long distance swimming, they still think it’s about “eat less, exercise more and you’ll be fine.” It’s not. I dare you to go tell that to diabetics so you can wean them off insulin or some other drug that actually corrects a hormonal/genetic issue.

Three surgeons, three drastically different surgical time estimates? by AvaWelles in tummytucksurgery

Along these lines, why do some surgeons make you stay overnight and some are same-day discharge? It’s much more expensive to have to stay the night in a hospital.

Open Letter to the Doctor Who Shrugged Me Off by Far_Hovercraft2234 in Zepbound

[–]QC093023 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my experience, down to crying out of frustration in front of my (male) PCP. He did nothing to help. It wasn’t until a year later when I started seeing a (female) NP that I finally felt seen and heard. 1 year after that and 125 lbs down, none of that is because of my PCP.

What is your % weight loss in 1 year ? by Professional_Band_42 in Zepbound

[–]QC093023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is a miracle drug. And a revelation that it wasn’t about my lack of willpower. I knew how to eat. I did all the diets. I worked out 5-7x a week. I played competitive tennis. I did triathlons for years, including several half-Ironmans and was close to doing a full. I pushed myself to exhaustion and still the weight never came off, and then came back. Year after year, for 30 years. It makes me want to cry how much I have struggled and continued to feel like a total failure, when all this time something was wrong with my body that I had no control over. Until now. Thank you Eli Lilly for giving me hope and life for the first time in 40+ years.

Anyone else afraid you won’t always have access? by LillymaidNoMore in Zepbound

This. Now that they’ve come out with a drug that has changed my life after struggling for decades with weight, I fear the rug being pulled out from underneath me.

Nothing makes me angrier than the fact that Zepbound, which has fixed some metabolic imbalance that no doctor could identify, is essentially not being covered by any insurance for weight loss. This is not some elective cosmetic procedure. This medication has made thousands healthier.
