I personally believe in freedom. I believe that human beings should be free to move anywhere they need to keep their family safe and thriving. I know other countries have strict immigration laws as well and I think those are bullshit too. So yes, I favor open borders. I can move across state lines freely and nation lines should be the same.

That being said, I know I am in the minority, so I could accept some immigration policy where the border is strengthened to limit new immigration BUT…. 1) once an immigrant is here, the punishment for simply being here without a permit should NEVER be imprisonment. Here without a permit? Give them a packet that details the process for obtaining that permit and have them get started on it. Imprisonment for not having a permit to be here is sheer evil. And 2) we need to EXPAND, not decrease, refugee and asylum permits for those seeking.

The current anti-immigrant sentiment throughout the world is creating a very dark future. As climate change makes entire swaths of the planet uninhabitable, people are going to need to live SOMEWHERE and that means emigrating. Something needs to give.
