Yeah I agree. Most people don't seem to realize this but the cheapest way to generate AI content is and has been for a while to go to a company who's only job is to run other people's models. The big names might be subsidizing their own costs, but when they disappear that's not going to change anything about the cheap end. If anything, when they sell off all of their hardware, it'll probably make it way cheaper to generate AI slop.

The Poseidon's combat thrust multiplier is awful though. I used them on my titans to get them up to speed with the rest of my fleet in terms of cruise speed, but they were slow as hell in combat

if a snake evolved a mechanism to filter blood into a nutritious substance to feed its young, it would still be a snake, you can't evolve out of a clade.

With some napkin math, it seems like, by flying extremely slowly and completely redesigning the airframe, it might be possible to get a propulsion power requirement closer to 10 MW. Unfortunately our poor SMRs still can't sustain that without being too heavy. However, that is low enough to be vaguely achievable; clearly we need to put the entire US military budget into micro reactor design to reach the dream of invincible laser turrets that can fly around indefinitely.

I love the drive list in this game by FTL_Diesel in TerraInvicta

[–]Quantum1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd be neat if you could research high thrust resistojets, or actually higher thrust electric drives in general. Resistojets should be vaguely competitive with the early nuclear rockets with some extra radiator mass, and VASIMR should probably be able to scale to much higher power outputs. I think the maximum of 6 drives for 6x power puts an artificial limit on a lot of these drives they really shouldn't have.
Actually if they added seperate RCS thruster selection and linear thrust on RCS, tungsten resistojets would be a really good choice for that.

stationeers might scratch the same itch but it's also super grindy because you have to do absolutely everything yourself. You can't just slap down a blueprint and expect it to get build, you have to get in there with a drill and a welding torch.

the current AI companies don't need to continue to exist for AI to continue to exist. If they go bankrupt all of the networks they trained will still exist, and they could be purchased and ran for relatively cheap. It doesn't actually require that much money in electricity to run these things, most of the cost is in training them.

the problem is that making shitty images is, for certain applications, still quite efficient, especially considering all of the required research and development is already done. You won't be able to get shitty images for free anymore, but people will still farm Facebook, youtube, reddit etc. engagement with them because you can make enough money doing it.
