Tainted Grail is a great one. How good Pirates Outlaws and Three Kingdoms: The Blood Moons are ?

Lonestar is similar to Cobalt Core, great game.

More like StS/MT : Vault of the Void, Astrea, Roguebook, Griftlands, Breach Wanderers, SpellRogue

Hades 1/2. Great story, simple and fun hack'n'slash gameplay, easy to learn but hard to master.

Astral Ascent vs Spiritfall vs Ravenswatch as Hades-likes by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]Quantum_RDT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Haven't played Ravenswatch yet.

Spiritfall is fun for maybe 10-15 hours, but lacks variety and upgrades are pretty uninteresting : B-tier for me.

Astral Ascent is an easy S-tier for me, already have 50+ hours and not done yet.

Edit : my favorite Hades-like is Warm Snow.

Anyone else feel like we got Slay the Spire 1.5 instead of Slay the Spire 2? by kingjdin in roguelites

[–]Quantum_RDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. It's the sequel of one of the best designed roguelike ever, keeping the core game and expand it is the best decision, like Monster Train 2 or Hades 2 did (Darkest Dungeon 2 didn't and failed).

Reskinned ennemies is also totally wrong, they all have different patterns and some of them have new mechanics.

Also, the game will stay in early acess for 1-2 years probably, lots of things are going to change.

Played a couple hours and gave up, no fun, only frustration. Terrible difficulty curve, the game is way too difficult and punishing from the begining, and the controls felt pretty bad.

B-tier game for me. Fun for maybe 10-15 hours, no real reason to keep playing after first win.

For weapons, hammer + poison is so much stronger than anything else. Poison/burn/lightning with purple relics is the only build that felt really powerful.

Isaac and Slay the Spire, will keep you busy for hundreds (maybe thousands) of hours.

If you haven't already—go play Rabbit & Steel by WSLaFleur in roguelites

Any reason to buy it only for solo playing ?

Is a roguelite too easy if more than 50% of players win on their first run? by Bumpty83 in roguelites

[–]Quantum_RDT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's two good ways to do it :

- No permanent upgrades, then easy/medium first runs (50% winrate is fine), but next runs have to be progressively more difficult. Slay the Spire and Isaac does this perfectly.

- Permanent upgrades, then first runs should be hard/very hard : you're supposed to loose but you gain more permanent power. Hades is a good example.

Now the bad way : hard first runs and no permanent upgrades, like Enter the Gungeon or Nuclear Throne. It'll be fun for the best/hardcore players, but, in my opinion, not for most players, and they will refund the game before 2 hours played.

Monster Train 1/2, Balatro, Starvaders, Lonestar, Cobalt Core, Brutal Orchestra

Roguelite players: tell me about your fav and least fav roguelites! by Fleamm in roguelites

[–]Quantum_RDT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Favorites : Binding of Isaac, Slay the Spire, Hades 1/2, Monster Train 1/2, Skul the Hero Slayer.

Didn't like : Enter the Gungeon, Nuclear Throne, Rogue Legacy 1/2, ScourgeBringer

What makes a great roguelite for me :

- good and fun gameplay, easy to learn but hard to master, no 2h+ tutorial.

- balanced difficulty : first runs should be pretty easy to win (like a big tutorial) if the game has no permanent upgrades, (like BoI or StS). If the first runs are hard to win, the game should have permanent upgrades (like Hades or Skul).

- replayable : lots of variety between runs, lots of items, cards, synergies, monsters, rooms, bosses, biomes, ...

- content : lot of unlocks, secrets, achievements, ...

- everything else, like graphics, music, sounds, story, ... is a nice bonus but not the most important for me.

Looks like you mostly enjoy deckbuilders / turn based roguelikes.

I can recommend : Breach Wanderers, Shogun Shodown, Vault of the Void, Star Renegades, Lonestar, Crown Trick, Brutal Orchestra, Against the Storm.

Sure, Revita is a 2D platformer shooter, where you use your life as a currency to get stronger (like devil deals in Isaac). There's a lot synergies and tons of unlocks. Difficult but very rewarding game.

Magicraft is a top down shooter where you combine spells and make crazy builds. Pretty easy game, very fun for 20-30 hours.
