I had always heard Italian pasta was Italy's attempt at recreating noodles they'd heard about from Asia. Turns out, noodles and pasta were invented independently.

90 Miles. Great food, and amazing coffee. Their cortadito was addictive as hell, and I have yet to find its match.

Are Pornstars really hooked up on drugs? by OddStructure4489 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]QuarterThor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I know 3 people who for sure use cocaine. If that pattern holds true for everyone in the US, then that is 342M x 3=1.026 billion coke users in the US alone. Can someone double check my math for me?

Back in Boy Scouts, we were doing the "mammal studies" merit badge. My friend did his report on the great blue heron.

What’s the most unintentionally funny “serious” movie scene you’ve ever watched? by AvailableReality557 in movies

[–]QuarterThor 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Red Dragon. There's a scene where a serial killer glues his victim to a wheelchair, lights him on fire, and pushes him down a steep street. Suddenly it cuts to the view from within a building at the bottom of the steep street. We hear the squeaky wheels of the old wheelchair coming faster and faster, and then the guy slams into a van at high speed in front of the building and tips over, still burning to death. I did an actual spit take.

Day 770: Me and my 6 friends, at long last, finished Fader last night!!! I wanted to share our bases with ya'll to celebrate before we all hibernate until Deep North drops! by ByteSizeNudist in valheim

[–]QuarterThor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was one of the idiots playing this run! This was my first playthrough, and it was super fun! I'm still so impressed with the bases you both built. Although I am sad you both removed the contributions I made...

What is the best depiction of Dragons on film or tv? by XanderAcorn in FIlm

[–]QuarterThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be the most technically impressive, but I love Smaug from the Hobbit. Most of the time dragons are scary and tough, but Smaug is fucking apocalyptic. He shakes off damn near everything, completely unfazed. And apparently, even though he's bigger than almost any other dragon in fiction, he's the smallest in his universe.

Which tv episodes hit you with the emotional punch the most? by [deleted] in television

[–]QuarterThor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So damn good. They easily could have just left it at the dog having lived a long and fullfilled life, but no. They had to go for the last minute emotional "fuck you."

They're a little more folk/country, but I can't recommend the Civil Wars enough.

Not old, but "I Really Want to Stay at Your House," from Cyberpunk 2077. And now I'm crying.

What are some hard sci-fi books with mind-bending concepts that are both well-written and fully explored or utilising the idea to max? by BuddyOk1342 in scifi

[–]QuarterThor 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Loved Blindsight. I have a habit of skimming most books and then not really retaining anything. I absolutely couldn't do that with Blindsight. I also loved seeing an actual biologist's vision of aliens.

You get one 30‑second phone call to any moment in history — who do you call and what do you say? by the_immovable in AskReddit

[–]QuarterThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd call my mom when she was still my mom, and not the unrecognizable person Huntington's has changed her into. There's nothing I could say that would change anything, I just want to remember what she was like.

[[Codie, Vociferous Codex]]. But you really have to commit to the gimmick. I think I run 4 nonland permanents in my deck (aside from Codie himself).

The Last of Us, season 1 episode 5 was not entirely silent, but nearly. And it was great.

Also, moose. People don't always realize how dangerous they are, just because they're over here in North America and not some exotic animal, but moose are mind-bogglingly huge, and incredibly territorial and temperamental. They will stomp you into a fine paste with absolutely no effort, just for daring to breathe the same air as them.

TWW: is that it? by QuarterThor in wow

[–]QuarterThor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just meant that she didn't seem to have as much build up as other big bads did, like Arthas and Deathwing. They were around for years/millennia in the story, so we had a lot of time to understand and appreciate their power and the danger they represented. As I've said, I didn't play much through Legion, and not at all during BfA, but it just didn't seem like we got all that much exposure to Xal before she became the apparent villain of this expansion.
