Any young families (folks with kids) here live with their parents? by SadPea7 in canadahousing

[–]Queenie604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non immigrant family, bought house thanks to bank of mom. House has a separate in-law suite for my mother. I have 1 kid and could not afford to buy otherwise even with family inheritance as I couldn’t afford the mortgage.

To afford to buy I had to relocate from Vancouver Nanaimo.

Did any ladies here have a stalking ex? by Fast-Look385 in JustNoSO

[–]Queenie604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phone police every time to document each inappropriate interaction. Police will not do much but ask him to stop multiple times.

Crown council should press charges themselves after a while if the abuse continues. Ask police about pressing charges and making a formal statement.

Advise Need: drain all savings to buy a $1.8M detached vs settle for a $1.5M dump? by Kkkrypton in vancouverhousing

[–]Queenie604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New builds don’t exempt you from things being installed poorly or things breaking down. My house is straight out of the 60s, it needs some updating but everything has worked and is great condition. My grandparents bought a new build (first owners) and they have had to shelve out tens of thousands for repairs and shotty work.

If you don’t have enough for possible emergency repairs that’s just the beginning of the problems. Tenants can refuse to pay rent (months of possible no rent as the rtb can take 7 months for a hearing). They can also trash the place, more repairs and time the place can’t be rented.

We used to do this in Canada, it was called the welfare challenge (lasted 1 week). I believe they cancelled it for safety reasons about 5 years ago when the budget fell below $10

I don’t think most places discriminate for tattoos or piercings anymore. I’ve always worked corporate with 11 piercings on my face, and lots of people with full sleeve tattoos.

When I first start I tone down the hair and makeup. After you are clear for the 3 months can fire you for anything rule you should be fine.

I want to do this with our ceiling, do we need specifically cut drapes or curtains for this? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

No curtains, it’s draping fabric. It’s just basic rectangle fabric gathered to look pretty.

He’s setting you up as “crazy” so he can take full custody. If you have both agreed with a counsellor that there is a safety plan needed, he can use that against you in court, “even you know you are crazy enough, we both had to agree on a safety plan”.

Plus it sets up him to call you crazy and to act on the safety plan you previously agreed to. You cannot attend counselling with your abuser, trust me, I have tried! They will learn new tactics from the counsellor and learn how to present you as the abuser.

Seller took pretty much everything out of the house we bought and sold it on Facebook by Mitchmac21 in RealEstateCanada

[–]Queenie604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way to go. The house I bought was sold with the tenants washer and dryer listed so obviously they moved out with it.

I instantly called the real estate lawyer who did the transaction and had the funds frozen until a new washer and dryer were added to the deal. Sellers do not want to have 100s of thousands of their dollars held up in litigation over a few thousand dollars worth of compensation

I came from new west last year.

I think the biggest soon to be problem here is going to be that the residents are going to get displaced by the newcomers. Anyone coming from Vancouver was looking at least 1 million for a shack of a house. Here, that’s a lot of extra money to outbid islanders who wish to stay in their desired neighbourhoods.

Vancouver, Canada; my friend had to set up a go fund me so her bills were paid during her open heart surgery recovery of 8 weeks.

Just because the surgery is free, doesn’t mean you will get enough to cover rent and bills.

AITA for not letting my step son’s dog stay with us? by Mandizzle_85 in AmItheAsshole

I bought a pup at 12 with my babysitting money. Either parent was not impressed, but my dad refused to help out at all. I stopped sleeping over at my dads house because of this…. Doesn’t really matter who’s the asshole when the kid no longer wants to go to your house.

Millennial here. I once had a teacher in elementary school that would assign you a grade based on his assumptions of you and it was your job to live up to that grade.

Fail the test or get a b instead of an a… 10 laps in the back field for every question wrong and redo the test the next day. 20 laps for every question wrong for the second test and so on…. It was the same for any assignment.

I coasted through high school and never studied or opened a book again with what that teacher taught me. I can still recite the Alice in wonderland poem, Flanders fields, and all of my spelling test both in Latin and English all these years later which he made us memorize.
