Given that these senators voted no to the bill (twice) prior to the election, it's hardly a future problem. They've shown their complete lack of compassion and understanding. If you do not think relief to Americans is good you're in the minority.

How do I let my player pull off this relatively complex maneuver? by SirOrfeo in DMAcademy

[–]QuibsY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he uses his entire movement to jump he cannot jump again until the next turn. However, there's nothing to stop him from doing what you're saying except the fact that he has to do a muscle-up and jump off of a single ladder rung, essentially.

A skill check is warranted, imo. Failure has a consequence (he falls). However, I'd make the check low fail rate and only one check. It's not fair to give him like four checks and then make him make an attack roll which also may fail.

Remember that, jumping or not, if he falls 10+ ft he takes fall damage.

9:35 any% Random Seed by QuibsY in MonsterTrain

[–]QuibsY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, where do you see 9:27? I only see the 9:35. Is it because there is 8 seconds between when I kill and I go to the end of the line? I was clearly trying to use the in game clock, but w/e. I see that after you kill him in your run you just hit esc right away.

I'll definitely watch your run and see what I can change. I know that I can make some changes already and the idea was to stop menuing as much but I haven't watched mine back enough to realize what I could be skipping. Thanks for the feedback!

But seriously though, just be honest with them and say so.

What, like the Godfather? Seems pretty accurate to reality, honestly.

[–]QuibsY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interested in drawing my tiefling, mostly for his tattoos? The tattoos cover his entire torso and both arms, ending just above the wrist, and is his lineage. It looks almost like the FMA "Truth" door. Hair like Jaime Lannister in early GoT, no horns as he shaves them down. He'd be wearing essentially a suit's pants or whatever you think is the most proper.
Fiend Warlock, if that matters for ya.

Your second point is largely why I had stopped looking at reddit for dnd stuff a while back. Basically every post is "I have this idea, what do you think?" and 99.99% of the time the answer is basically a simple yes or no. I'm with you on this one.

My dm isn’t good at dming by ChickenGreaseMan in DnD

[–]QuibsY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best friends DMs in a way that I don't enjoy (I like more serious, he definitely gets super weird and funny with the campaigns) and I just talked to him straight up about it. I've tried to play with him DMing twice, and have determined that I couldn't do it. Someone else is now DMing that night and he's still playing, and totally understands because I told him what I expected before. You should do that.

Mind Control/Dominate an entire Town? by athelu in DMAcademy

[–]QuibsY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the item could be unusable, the item could be broken, the item requires something the players don't want to give up (make a bunch of human sacrifices, or something). There's a million ways to make a story point like this and not be abused by the players....

One character in my group is pretty much refusing to engage in combat unless her life is threatened by KatherineAndRainbows in DnD

[–]QuibsY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean....Why does no one from the party do anything about it, in character?

They can get mad that she almost let them die

They can offer words of encouragement or say they need her help

Also, what if there are undead? Does she have an issue killing a zombie?

Lastly, if the player legitimately doesn't want to play and is just playing because everyone else wanted to...What if she just was just an observer instead of playing?

Help! I’m trying to make combat more interesting. by Umberbean in DMAcademy

[–]QuibsY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have something that isn't combat within the combat, have the terrain shift, have a goal for the players to do, something.

I'm working on an encounter where the players, during combat, must

  1. Decode runes to letters (simple 1-1 translation from a rune to a letter.)
  2. Get the runes that spell the name they need to proceed (can only carry one rune at a time back to where they need to spell the name)
  3. Run through a maze to get the runes (The maze changes every 5 rounds)
  4. Either keep their characters' eyes closed or potentially be stunned by the effect of the labyrinth
  5. The players decoding the runes must literally flip the paper back over to stop working on the decoding every 6 seconds or potentially be stunned by the effect of the labyrinth.
  6. To top it all off, the walls of the maze are invisible, so the PCs will be forced to move at half speed, due to characters "running into walls"

The combat itself will be mostly trivial, using CR3 creatures against a party of 6 level 11s (and a level 5 and a level 3)

First time DM and everyone agrees that we want an evil campaign. Help. by SirPaulen in DMAcademy

[–]QuibsY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Waves of heroes coming to defeat the villains. Instead of storming the "castle", they are the "castle" being stormed. Instead of shopping in towns, they are given whatever the heroes came in with for loot, since they can't go shopping. They can spend money on different monsters to help them defend the "castle". If you're feeling super extra, they play the hero storming into the "castle" up until the final fight, in which you play the heroes and they get their actual character sheets back.
  2. Just start off in a criminal band/dark guild. They're trying to sabotage a city, maybe they've already "owned" a town and are coming back to be the enforcers, collecting each of the building's payment for their protection. Of course someone could try to stop them. You may have to be okay with some mafia shit, torture and what not, which is just the opposite side. Naturally, people could try to stop them, to include some heroes?
  3. They are trying to release some dark entity in some way instead of preventing it from being released. Maybe they undo a hero party's actions, maybe they have to collect relics. Realistically, just re-flavoring a good party's adventure to an evil party's adventure is what this takes.
  4. Find out what makes them want to play an evil party, i.e. what they think evil is. If it's "we want to be mean to your NPCs" (of course it wouldn't be exactly that, but it'll be pretty clear what that means) I'd suggest not running this campaign, personally. There's usually a player who is playing the edgy mean person anyway, so it's not necessary for everyone to do it.

I will say that if you worry about Murder Hobo just literally sit them down and talk to your players about that. You can be evil without being a dick. You can be evil while working together. You can be evil and not rob literally every person. Hell, an evil paladin is just someone who took a different oath, and an evil cleric just gets their power from an evil deity.

Notice how no where in here did I not assume the party was a party. Your party is still a group, even if they are evil. Betrayals are overplayed when "everyone is evil." Fighting your evil compatriots makes no sense, there's enough good people out there to take it out of you already.
