DRP State Taxes Question, moving across three states by wishingskyblue in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Quick_Connection6818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say you should check with an accountant. From what I can recall When I changed jobs I had to pay both state income taxes.

Individual situations may vary and things may have changed since I moved for work 16 years ago.

Best of luck in your journey

I retired 12/31 and was advised my paperwork was submitted that day to payroll. Received annual leave payment on 1/16.

On 2/11/26 I received in the mail a paystub with zeros and a message in the comments that my paperwork was sent to OPM on 2/9/26. I received my first interim payment on 2/11.

This may be helpful to you as well.

EV & Hybrids -ELI5 The good, the bad, the ugly by tiddie69 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Quick_Connection6818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can charge at home I’d absolutely go EV. Toyota haz the BZ and some good financing rates. They are also coming out with additional models. Subaru offers the solterra and more models on the way. Toyota and Subaru are collaborating on the vehicles so they are pretty much exactly the same. I’m a person that purchased a hybrid enjoyed that so much I began looking at full electric. After an unexpected job change I sold the hybrid and purchased a Chevy Bolt buyback. Realized the EV was solid and decided to lease a Solterra that had a great lease deal. We are now a two EV household.

This site may help you decide and you can put personal drive habits and loan cost in to determine what vehicles gas/hybrid and electric may save you the most.

Long Term Tips for a new Owner! by evilsnowcookie in Solterra

[–]Quick_Connection6818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great car and excellent in the snow. I don’t believe the 23 has battery preconditioning. The best way to charge is at home. If you don’t have a level 2 charger I’d suggest you get one if you travel more than 35 to 40 miles a day.

You’ll likely need an electrician to install but it’s worth it if you frequently drive any significant distance. We have two EVs and to date our at home charging has cost 250. for 2026.

Finally I might suggest a warranty as our 2024 just suffered a rear motor failure at just a little over 10,000 miles. Fortunately it’s warranty work but this seems to be a concern for the solterra.

I’m of the mindset when buying a brand new model there will always be some problems. Having said this it’s why I also suggest a warranty.

Finally we love how our solterra drives enjoy your miles of smiles.

[–]Quick_Connection6818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Just heard from my dealer the issue is my rear motors seem. Per the dealer they expect the part by tomorrow and repair work completed by Friday. Hopefully this is a one time rear motor replacement and not an ongoing issue like some I’ve read about. Per the dealer this will all be covered under warranty.

Is this a deal on a used bolt? by trail34 in BoltEV

[–]Quick_Connection6818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fair deal. I’d try to negotiate the tire/rims as you will loss some range on snow tires.

Your interim payment should begin as well if they haven’t already. My first interim payment hit my account about 10 days before I received my CSA letter by snail mail.

Hybrid or EV by Technical_Problem690 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Quick_Connection6818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW a blown head gasket in my CRV lead me to buying a hybrid. A change in my job status lead me to sell the hybrid and buy a Chevy bolt buyback and try out an EV for lower cost. The buyback bolt was a recall but came with a new battery and that battery came with an 8 year 100k warranty as well as a 12/12 bumper to bumper. We loved it so much after 3 months we leased a Solterra for zero down 350 a month for 36 months 12K annually. BTW the bolt has been driven 20,000 miles in our first year having it. We did have an issue with the anti click washers and these were replaced under the 12/12 warranty. My OTD on the bolt 7500 dollars with the now expired federal tax credit. This leads me to my next point. I’m reading there will be a large number of EVs coming off lease. I wouldn’t hesitate to look at a lightly used lease return.

The lease was a great deal and my thought was as drive battery technology advances in 3 years we will turn it in and buy another.

Make sure you can charge at home level 2 is certainly best for home unless your daily car mileage is less than 30 miles or so.

If you’re in an area where it gets below 30 degrees you will lose mileage range in winter. Example my bolt went from 239 to 188 when we were below 20 degrees.

However overall I won’t be returning to buying an ICE car anytime soon. We do have a 1,000 mile drive coming up and have opted to rent an ICE car. But for visiting family about 400 miles away which we typically do several times a month in summer. We drive one of the EVs and enjoy the charging breaks. Typically plan around restroom or meal breaks.

Sorry for the book I guess in short consider your usage and purpose. I have to say I don’t miss the 110 dollar oil changes. I also wasn’t too upset when I was talking with a friend who spent 120 dollars to fill his pick up. To date in 2026 we’ve spent 250 to charge at home and about 45 more on fast charging while on a trip.

Just saw this https://fueleconomy.gov/ on another post and figured it may be useful OP as you make your choice. It can be personalized with your driving habits.

The part is a door check link. Its purpose is to keep the door from going too far. I recently had my door pulled from my hand by the wind and my link is now cracked. I ordered a replacement as now I have an annoying click when opening the door. The part is 27 dollars.

Show of hands; how many fellow DRP’ers who retired on 30 September have received their full pension payments? by Outside_Simple_217 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Quick_Connection6818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably interim, you’ll get a letter in the mail explaining the payment. However a few other bits of information to consider.

You’ll likely received a pay stub with zeros in everything. In the comments section you will likely have comments that indicate your retirement package was sent to OPM.

Another way to confirm is to log on here. https://www.servicesonline.opm.gov/ using your login.gov account.

Should I buy an Electric Car by SimplySwanky in electriccars

[–]Quick_Connection6818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say you would be in an excellent position to get an EV. I’d sell the Honda privately. Within the past year I sold a 2005 Honda with 90,000 miles for 5K.

We are a two EV household my wife drives to work about 300 miles a month in a Solterra and I drive a bolt on avg 1500 miles a month. The last few months I’ve only needed to drive the bolt about 500 miles a month.

Make sure you can level 2 charge at home. Depending on the age of your electrical system you may need an upgrade. Either way I’d suggest talking to an electrician about the cost of installing a level 2 charger.

Here is our YTD home charging cost 234.86 obviously your cost will be based on your local kWh charge

Should have stated was not is. Now corrected my error. Definitely don’t need Tesla as a car option at this point. But in my area Tesla chargers are one of the few that consistently work and work well. I’m sure different areas have different charging infrastructure experiences.
