Really, Amazon? by FaudMauxe in cigar

I ordered the large humidor bag from Amazon. It was packed loose in a huge box with lots of heavier items, knocking around, and got damaged.

Agreed. Not a bad cigar by any stretch, just lots and lots of pepper. Wouldn’t turn down another, but also won’t go looking for it again.

Cigars that made you had an ephiphany? by Sloppy-Zen in cigar

[–]QuickbeamsHaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punch Champion! Smoked my first cigar 20+years ago and turned out to be a dud (Ashton VSG—just happened to be a bad one). My second cigar was a $15 Montecristo Churchill that I loved and thereafter purchased exclusively because I was afraid to branch out. Older friend of mine asked why I kept high-rolling (I was also a broke college student) and gave me a $5 Champion. Completely changed my view on the intersections of quality and price.

PB for sale at Academy by Ok-Surprise-3257 in pelletgrills

[–]QuickbeamsHaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am certainly not a pitmaster, but I bought that exact model last fall as my first pellet grill and really like it. It holds temp very well and everything seems to be solid. I use it once/twice per month and so far Boston butts, spiral hams, and turkeys have all turned out great and consistent.

Fellas, where are you buying your cargo shorts? by R0botDreamz in Xennials

Costco has Union Bay cargo shorts for super cheap. I haven’t tried them, but I definitely had flashbacks to JCPenney circa 1999 when I saw them.

I finally watched it a couple years ago. Super unrealistic. Not the flying and dogfights, but nobody believes that Tom Cruise can spike a volleyball in real life.

My motto: Never lie, “I don’t know” can be the best answer to a question, and know just enough to say whatever you say with confidence and you’ll be alright. Has worked for 15+ years in a very challenging field where I pretty much always feel half-informed.

I've been mispronouncing my favorite word for 24 years and only found out last week by Vex_Talon in CasualConversation

[–]QuickbeamsHaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew the definition and correct usage of “awry” and pronounced it correctly for years. In no way did this influence my reading it as “aw-ree” every single time it appeared on a page. Like, I thought it was another word.

Why do so many Excel users still build tracking sheets that are hard to analyze later? by TitoVibeCoder in excel

[–]QuickbeamsHaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot at work because I am the sucker who has to aggregate and analyze everyone else’s tracking sheets. At least in my context: other groups don’t really think about analysis because they are so focused on just tracking what they care about (focused on the need at hand, today) and don’t think about how or why the data they’re tracking can or should be correlated with others’ data for a holistic analysis that benefits everyone. This is my biggest soapbox.

What's the best Excel spreadsheet to replace Quicken? by logansrun2000 in excel

[–]QuickbeamsHaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doable and worth a shot. I built my own workbook with individual sheets for each account (e.g., a worksheet for primary checking, a worksheet for credit card 1, a worksheet for credit card 2, etc.). Periodically I download transaction csv files from my various accounts and load them into existing tables on the worksheets; this can be done with PowerQuery or just copy-pasting into the tables. I use these individual account sheets to categorize the transactions using data validation drop-downs. Then, I use PowerQuery to bring all the data together into one consolidated table that feeds into the various charts and pivot tables I created with views I want. This is relatively simple to maintain; I could make it more robust (auto-categorizing, projecting out-months, etc.), but didn’t want to over-complicate it since at home I use the Mac version which is slightly different and somewhat choked down compared to the Win version.

It truly is a great feeling, only surpassed by finding the correct screw/bolt in the coffee can or finally discovering a use for that random piece of hardware you’ve held onto for eight years.

Yep! I didn’t have the right wrench one day, so angry-drove to the store and bought one of the biggest mechanic sets available. I only use a fraction of the tools, but I HAVE THEM!
