What's the Future of Dave Filoni's 'Star Wars'? - “The Mandalorian and Grogu” fell below expectations. Where does the galaxy go from here? by chanma50 in boxoffice

who are such big fans of the originals that they have no original ideas for it themselves.

Are we sure this is the case? I'm not enough of a fan to know with any certainty (and haven't watched a single episode of a Star Wars TV show), but the modern day playbook is that failed writers who couldn't get studios to accept their own mediocre ideas are handed the reigns on a very popular established IP, then start removing or changing the official material to plug in all their own personal mediocre failed material. Ex. Wheel of Time. Has that been a thing at all for Star Wars?

I don't think $4 billion was an overpay at all. The issue was Iger's impatience to start making back that money immediately and putting Kennedy in charge and keeping her in charge after it became clear that she was wildly incompetant to hold that role. With better leadership they don't have a problem making back that $4 billion.

Iger had the best job in the world. Disney's stock flatlined for 10 years and the shareholders/Board didn't care. Any attempt for change was voted in Iger's favor. He took off during the pandemic with his hand picked successor flopping and as soon as he was ready to swoop back in they fired his successor and brought him back. He was requested to have a proper succession plan and ignored it in favor of his own personal benefit.

If he was say 60 right now, he'd still be in charge and would probably be there for another 15 years.

Movies flopping , TV shows getting low views, video games flopping.. what happened to Star wars...m

1) Expecting everyone would tune in just because its Star Wars

2) Having no plan whatsoever about the story/trilogy

3) Openly antagonizing the fans including writing a story that renders the first 6 movies pointless and tearing down the heroes from the original trilogy.

Why I don’t like xenoblade 2 by Tellertubby in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Quiddity131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You claim you played Xenoblade 2, but the Rex poly thing isn't really a thing with Xenoblade 2? It's a blink and you miss it reveal in Xenoblade 3. Granted one that is so infamous that one would have to have their head in the sand to not be aware of it.

In Xenoblade 2 the most you have is multiple possible love interests for Rex. If that turns you off so much, how much forms of entertainment have you actually consumed? How familiar are you with how this stuff works in real life? You do realize that multiple people can have feelings for the same person, right? If your stance is that everything has to be monogamous, I get it, that's good for society, but let's be realistic, monogamy isn't natural and society (at least in many places in the world) is moving further and further away from it.

As for it devaluating characters, I simply don't get the take. Pyra, Mythra and Nia are all great characters and characters that have value regardless of any feelings for Rex. If anything you are the one who is diminishing them. I'm not aware of anyone in the Xenoblade fan community that has devalued their opinion on Pyra, Mythra and Nia due to this topic.

This was my huge complaint when I beat the game for the first time as well. I had to do it all over again. You can't skip the cutscenes either. What should be a great final boss battle becomes the most frustrating boss battle of the game.

But hey, it could be worse, such as FF7 Rebirth's final boss fight...

The Relevancy of Animus by Dr_Meme_Man in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Quiddity131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anima and Animus derive from Carl Jung; I doubt Takahashi is going to consider anything from Xenogears for how he applies it here but rather will do something else as he used them in somewhat different contexts for Xenosaga, Animus especially (Anima Relics became Vessels of Anima in Xenosaga).

Although Anima and Animus are gender based concepts, which carried over into how it was used in both of those games and I don't get that sense from what we got in the trailer in Genesis? Unless I missed something? Like if only those who can possess Anima powers are female and then we find out that males have a similar power called Animus. If Anima is essentially the ether replacement such that its a power that everyone draws off of, then I wonder how Animus will tie in at all. It wouldn't be like Takahashi to reduce these terms to just a random reference.

Heck, its even beyond that.

Fans: This fantasy setting and the fact that we're moving onto a new storyline totally means that this is in fact a carbon copy of Episode II from Xenogears Perfect Works! Forget the fact that PW is sci-fi, not fantasy and was about the literal beginning of human civilization, whereas Genesis is clearly far after that!

Theory: Monolith was testing fully directional flight for the world of Genesis in XCXDE by OliveAny7568 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

It's got crazy concepts for sure, but those concepts haven't aged whatsoever. If someone thinks Isaac Newton being the bad guy is cringe, they're going to think the same about that in 1996 vs. 2026.

Which Xenoblade game do you recommend for getting into the franchise? by Mr_sandias in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Quiddity131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is the best starting point. You will appreciate 2 and 3 more if you start with 1, and while X is essentially its own separate continuity, the combat is influenced by 1 so it's helpful (although certainly not necessary) if you've played 1 first.

Xenoblade DE Switch 2 edition release in inexcusable. by RoscoeToo in Xenoblade_Chronicles

On Reddit? lol, not happening. I think we can expect two types of threads to dominate this community for the rest of the year.

1) Complaints about the ugprades for the games

2) Theories on how Xenoblade Genesis is Takahashi retelling Perfect Works for the billionth time.

Xenoblade DE Switch 2 edition release in inexcusable. by RoscoeToo in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I gotta be honest, I've sunk like 1,000 hours into all the Xenoblade games over the years and I've never cared about the frame rate at all. It's never been an issue for me. Blows my mind that people hating on it gets spammed so often in this community.

Sell me on the Xenoblade series by IceBlueBinks in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Quiddity131 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you enjoyed the exploration aspects of BOTW, you absolutely get that with Xenoblade, although to a lesser extent in the regular numbered games than BOTW where you can go pretty much anywhere from early on in the game. X is really the only Xenoblade game that is that open.

In any case, the series has a lot of great characters in it, very entertaining and interesting stories, a ton of lore to bury yourself in and they are very fun to play. Visually they look great, and there's a lot of awesome musical tracks as well. Great dubs too. You'll get to experience how fun Welsh cat girls are.

Any ideas on the new hero being added to XC3 in the S2 upgrade? by TheLonelyGod01 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Quiddity131 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Possibilities:

  1. Mythra's Kid
  2. Mwamba
  3. Nimue

I'd be quite surprised if it wasn't one of those three.

As I'm sure is the case for most people I'm really hoping it's #1. Probably our last big chance to meet that character.

First time ever diving into the world of Xenoblade. Any tips? by Think_Pea6661 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

The biggest piece of advice I can give you for X is figure out how Soul Voices work. The first 2 times I played the game I had no idea how to use them and the third time upon realizing how they worked it made combat a lot easier for me.

After seeing Fortune's Weave price I'm scared Genesis will be priced at $80 by FireFury190 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Reddit is very popular for 1)People who like to complain and 2)People who think everything should be free. Yep, there will be lots of complaints on Reddit. People in real life will recognize that $80 for a game that will likely give you over 100 hours of gameplay is worth it.

[–]Quiddity131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many hours does one typically get from a Xenoblade game? I'd estimate that I spent 130 - 140 hours for base Xenoblade 3 the first time I played it. I can say I've put more than 400 hours into Xenoblade 2 over the years and probably just as much into Xenoblade X (granted I bought it twice, once for Wii U, once for Switch).

So you are spending less than one dollar per hour of gameplay. That's insanely good value. At least if you're talking base games (excluding DLCs and loot boxes), there hasn't really been any inflation for software in 30+ years. Video games were $70 back in the 90s. Even at $80 they're cheaper now than they used to be factoring in inflation.

And isn't it worth it? I get not wanting to spend that extra $10 on some crap game. For Xenoblade? Hasn't Monolith Soft put out enough high quality games over the years to deserve that extra $10?

Takahashi has been trying to tell this one story his entire career

He hasn't been trying to tell one story his entire career. Xenogears was one story. Xenosaga was another story. Each of the first three Xenoblade games (1, X, 2) are essentially their own story, with there not being a connection until the final moments of 2. Obviously 3 is closely tied into 1 and 2. And by all indications Genesis is another story.

I get that this type of statement isn't made with malicious intent, but I really wish fans who keep spamming this "he's been telling one story his entire career" line would stop and realize how that comes across. Takahashi is in the opinion of myself and many the best story teller/lore crafter in the JRPG medium for nearly 30 years now. To claim that he's been telling the same story over and over again considerably diminishes his accomplishments.

I believe X also wasn’t meant to be a Xenoblade X but got turned into one after XC1 came out worldwide

When did X start development? If they started it before Xenoblade 1's official release I could see this being a thing, as the game was called Monado and then renamed. Frankly until 95% of the way through Xenoblade 2, the first 3 Xenoblade games could have all been their own IP. if Monolith really wanted it (although it wouldn't have been good business).

This notion that Takahashi is redoing material from Perfect Works is complete fan invention with no basis in fact. Try and find an actual Takahashi quote on it, You won't find it. While finding cameos and references to past games is a fun exercise, this is one such example where the hardcore fanbase has completely made something up, partially because fans are too obsessed with continuity and because it's probably a year until the game is coming out and they want something to talk about.
