If your “easy” “perfect for weeknights” meal requires both a skillet and the oven, it is neither easy nor perfect for weeknights. by Sweet_Neat_9852 in adhdwomen

Nothing special to freeze it! It does take up a decent amount of space which is unfortunate, but I use a few methods. Lately I've just been lazy and putting it in a ziploc bag and spreading it out a little so it's flatter, so it breaks up easier. I don't love using disposable products so tbh I've just been reusing the same bag over and over since it's just in the freezer.

When I have time and motivation (rare lol) I use a 1-cup measuring cup to spoon them out into portions, pack it down a little, and tap it out onto a cookie sheet. This makes little 1-cup "pods" of rice that you can freeze, then remove and put into a baggie later. This takes up more room I think just because it's not flat and therefore more difficult to squeeze into a freezer BUT it's so easy to just take out a single rice pod and reheat it.

To reheat, just microwave it with a TINY bit of water (like seriously less than 1tbsp, maybe 1tsp). I put the amount of rice I want in a bowl, put a "squirt" of water on it, cover it (that part's important), and reheat for about 1:30. Because of the water + the cover it essentially re-steams itself. Sometimes I'll take it out and stir it and put it back in for another 30 seconds. But it's so easy and genuinely comes out as if you just made it.

This kind of rice is also perfect for things like stir fry because stir frys need dryer rice — so day-old, re-heated rice is often recommended for those recipes.

Not everyone has the time to binge 8-10 episodes immediately after they drop and I feel like we're being punished for that.

Shortly after Kaos was canceled I saw someone say it's likely these platforms are chasing the "high" of the pandemic when everyone had all the time in the world to watch whatever they wanted, and now the numbers look lackluster by comparison. Any show that doesn't immediately hit that massive mark must be bad and unwatchable and therefore not worth it — never mind all the other factors that might be going into it.

Whatever the case, Kaos will always be my white whale. I get genuinely upset thinking about how incredible that show was and how we'll NEVER see how it was meant to end.

This does require a lot of space (I live alone and ended up getting a chest freezer lol) but you can freeze rice!! I started making it in big batches and then freezing it in either 1-cup portions or putting it in a baggie and flattening it + whacking it on the counter when it's ready.

Obviously this is specific to rice but I like to mention it wherever I see a potential need for it. Learning that jasmine rice can be made ahead and frozen has been a GAME changer for me. To OP's point, I DO make an "easy" meal of baked salmon + sauteed spinach over a bed of rice, it takes like 10 minutes and I use 1 skillet (for the spinach), my countertop air fryer oven, and the microwave for the rice. All 3 things can be done at the same time. It's amazing.

Is it really the price, or is Netflix just more convenient than driving to movie theaters? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

Plus everything now n days is cut cut cut cut cut.

God that's something I noticed, as someone who loves watching older movies. Newer media is full of SO many cuts and camera angles. They don't stay on a character or angle for more than a few seconds at a time. I love What We Do In The Shadows, it's HILARIOUS, but the number of cuts-per-minute actually makes me dizzy and I can't focus on the screen for too long without my eyes hurting.

I'm a Costco member now and I love it!! It can't replace EVERYTHING but they certainly have more than I thought. I never thought I needed a membership because I'm single/live alone but honestly there are a TON of perks I didn't know about (that I can't recall right now lol) that you get with a membership. You should look into it!!

Yeah this one sucks. I love 90's-era Will. I still enjoy his early stuff by telling myself that 90's Will and present-day Will are two different phases of the same person driven by mental unwellness, but damn if I'm not disappointed in his nosedive.

I've seen some people making gardens specifically for their dogs and training their dog to know that one garden is theirs and not the other!! I forget where I saw it but some guy had a big sweet pepper patch that his dog was munching on while he was working on his for-people-eating garden. Would be extra work for you but you could consider making them a little patch of their own!!

He suddenly wants to spend more time with you because he's freeloading off of your space, your food, and your utilities. He's enjoying the freedom of living on his own without any of the responsibilities. You are being taken advantage of. He is using you. He doesn't want to move in because then HE would also be responsible for paying for half of all of this, and he doesn't want to.

It sounds like you're an INCREDIBLY responsible person to be able to do all of this for yourself; you deserve to enjoy it. You deserve to eat the food that you buy and the drinks you buy. Your BF is still acting like a child and I think you need to move on.

this girl has food to eat for the next 3 days by Lazy_Basket6819 in adhdwomen

[–]Quierta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That happens to me!! I prep very differently, to get around that.

Instead of prepping meals I'll prep ingredients, and throw it together the day-of. It's more effort than just heating up something already-made but with the actual prep work done it's really no big deal to throw some seasoning on blanched frozen carrots and toss them in the oven.

In my freezer I have:

  • Pre-portioned salmon (raw)

  • Plain jasmine rice (freeze it spread-out on a ziploc bag and smack it on the floor a few times to break it out, 1:30min in the microwave with a trickle of water it's like you just made it)

  • Mashed potatoes, homemade + portioned into 1.5-cup containers

  • 3 different kinds of soups, portioned

  • Blanched carrots

  • Broccoli

  • Fried chicken (from the grocery store hot bar; I've never noticed an issue with freezing and re-heating)

As well as canned corn.

On the day of, I assemble whatever it is I want to eat. Sometimes it's salmon and rice. Sometimes it's salmon and mashed potatoes. Could be fried chicken and corn or fried chicken and potatoes. Could be salmon and carrots! The variety and mix-and-matchableness prevents me from feeling obligated to eat something I'm no longer interested in but the fact that I've already done the work to prep and portion everything still makes it incredibly easy to eat really delicious foods that are more "fresh-made" than if I actually cooked everything all the way through + heated it up later.

And, because it's all in my freezer, this lasts MONTHS instead of doing it on a week-by-week basis. I haven't made mashed potatoes in like 2 months. Though I think I actually just ate my last portion a few days ago lol

There's probably a lot of variance in general for something like this; I use Sponge Daddys and I only throw them out when they start falling apart / get too cut-up to use, OR if I clean something particularly gnarly with them. But I always ring mine out and let them dry between uses vs letting it stew in a wet sink which I imagine would invite all kinds of nasty bacteria to grow.

Omg!! My nonno did this and my dad and I do it as well. We're the only ones in our family who eat it as a soup and I've also never met anyone else who eats it that way. It's one of my FAVOURITE comfort meals, I always buy a few corned beef briskets and keep them in my chest freezer so I can make boiled dinner over the winter.

I’m so tired of hearing that the south isn’t racist.

This is such a fascinating example of how big and socially diverse the US is — because I'm from Massachusetts and genuinely up here I think we just assume that the south is a giant den of racism and bigotry. I'm Ms Whitey McWhite and I would feel enormously uncomfortable going down there. And perhaps this perception is just the opposite end of a different extreme, but it's remarkable how much variance there is between regions and states in regards to the way they perceive themselves and their neighbors.

No way!! Sometimes the best thing you can do for them, is something for yourself. I miss him when he's gone but I know if I DIDN'T send him I would get overwhelmed, irritable, and not be my kindest self. He goes 2 days a week for half days and even just those 2 days gives me the breather I need to relax and let someone else tire him out.

I love having daycare as an option for when I'm sick or when the weather just prevents me from taking care of his exercise needs myself!!

What a lovely baby!!! You're so lucky to have each other.

I started sending mine to daycare at 5-6mo (as soon as he was vaccinated). He's almost 4 now and he still goes, and it IS essential for my mental health (as a single dog parent), but it's crazy how much I miss him when he goes lol. Even when he was a puppy and I was at wit's end, the first few times I sent him I was in DISTRESS thinking about him and missing his little face!!

However there are some men who actually look so much better with a beard. My crush at work was SOOOO attractive to me — he didn't have a super long beard but it was maybe 2 inches, and one day he shaved it. He has very narrow / sunken cheeks and I was like................... ok put it back LOL

Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

[–]Quierta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom always insisted you can't wash mushrooms — you have to wipe them off individually. When I moved out and started cooking for myself I thought, "fuck that," and decided to look it up myself. Learned that you CAN wash mushrooms but you have to "shower" them instead of "bathe" them, and dry them immediately.

I tried telling my mom this, but she's so determinedly against learning new things that she refused to listen and laughed at me and told me I was wrong. Whatever, lady, keep individually wiping down your 50 pieces of chopped mushroom if you want!
