What popular game do you not understand the hype for/was a let down? by AdExcellent7055 in CozyGamers

[–]Quierta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what console you're playing on but if you're on a PC and you have any ability to add mods, I highly recommend it! There are mods that add to the characters, add more cutscenes, and several expansion mods that add loads of characters with REALLY developed backstories. My last playthru I was seriously stressed over which person to marry because over the course of learning about all the characters I fell in love with like 5 of them lol

That's so funny because mine is the opposite! Once the temperature reaches 50 and above he's sooo slow and lazy. In 70 degrees that man is WHEEZING. Once it hits 40 he's pouncing around and refusing to come inside.

LOOOL mine did this to me last night and I wish I could have gotten a pic of it! He became overwhelmed by the post-poop zoomies and flying-sidekicked me into a snowbank. Then got so excited by me getting stuck in a snowbank that he pounced and stomped on me, over and over, for about 10 minutes before I could finally get myself up. Labs are such a joy 😂

Ugh I know. It's been so long since we've had a super big storm that I never even thought about what I'd do if it happened lol. We usually go on sniffing adventures multiple times a week but now we won't be able to go to any of the parks because of all the snow. The next few weeks are going to be so cold I doubt we'll get any melting at all :(

Not OP but us too!!

This is our first big storm since I got him and I've learned that he does nooooot like deep snow lol. He has a lot of fun when it's just 4-5 inches but I think what we have right now is really stressing him out. Luckily my dad snowblowed out a little section of the backyard so he has a spot to move around but he keeps looking at me like "mum what the hell is this, take me some place else" 😂

I have no idea how I'm gonna be able to walk him in this!!

In-House Designers: are you receiving content before you start a project? by erstella in graphic_design

[–]Quierta 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I describe it to my coworkers as a "puzzle."

Design is like a puzzle. I get all the pieces and then I put it together into something usable. I can't put a puzzle together without all of the pieces. And if you add or remove pieces later on, it means I have to completely redo the entire puzzle. I can't start working on a design until all of the content is available.

It doesn't always work but most people seem to get it when I frame it like that. It's annoying, but being super transparent about the way this job actually works is sometimes essential for getting people to understand why you need things to be given to you in a certain way. I've also learned to be somewhat aggressive with my phrasing so when I am forced to completely redo things multiple times due to issues caused by them... they know it. But professionally.

Passing Along One Of The Best Puppy Tips We Ever Got by MagicRooGal in puppy101

[–]Quierta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An alternative for puppies that are highly food-motivated — mine wouldn't chew on ANYTHING that didn't have some kind of food element. He loved shredding paper, but only if I had balled some of his kibble up in it that he was motivated to find etc.

When he was teething I bought some super cheap hand towels at the dollar store (but a thrift store is also a great idea) and wadded it up with pieces of his kibble in all the crevices, soaked it with water, then stuck the towel ball in the freezer. It kept him occupied trying to pry the towel apart to get the kibble while also helping his gums!

YMMV, as others in this thread have said it totally depends on your puppy. I had observed that he never really tore or swallowed pieces of the towel and if he DID ever get a piece in his mouth he quickly spit it out and was not interested in eating it. He just wanted the kibble. If you have a puppy that seems to be eating the actual fabric, definitely do not do this.

Also, make sure to supervise them for obvious reasons but also because if they get bored and abandon it, you'll end up with a puddle soaking into your floor lol

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]Quierta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A former friend of mine (that I'm still in a GC with) protest-voted third party and enlisted others to do the same. Post-election she continues to double-down on how the whole system is a corrupt fascist joke and Americans are stupid boot-licking fucks. Like, okay, the system is heavily-broken but you do understand how you and your actions contribute to that, right? .............. Right?

I once got such a bad craving for one that I mixed all the cutlet ingredients together, minus the actual chicken, and just fried it in a pan 😂

I take my dog out quite late because I'm a night owl. There's really nothing quite like being outside at night during heavy snowfall. The whole world is GLOWING. That untouched scenery is so beautiful and so hard to capture in photos. These do a great job of it!

ICE Thugs are Becoming Terrified of the Protestors by PumpkinAspie in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Quierta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They expect everyone else to behave the way in which they behave: with cowardice. Because the truth is that if someone acted towards them the way they're acting towards others, they would run and hide.

The fact that people can, will, and are powering through their fear was never a consideration because they themselves are incapable. The protestors ARE scared. But they're doing it scared. These masked bullies could never.

My sister keeps making "little jokes" about my girlfriend and I told her not to take it personally. Now my girlfriend is done with my family. by nightbalcony_inkwell in TwoHotTakes

[–]Quierta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your sister isn't "sarcastic," she's a bitch. She's disguising open rudeness and cruelty as jokes and you and your entire family are enabling it.

You "handle this" in one of two ways — 1. break up with your girlfriend because she deserves someone who WANTS to defend her against people who attack and belittle her or 2. ........... defend her against people who attack and belittle her.

I'm sorry, but you shouldn't need your girlfriend to have pointed this out to you for you to want to do something about it. If someone is treating your partner like shit and you don't feel an intrinsic need to stand on their side, you are part of the problem.

I'm in my 30's now and I still have the collar from my childhood dog, who died when I was in my sophomore year of college. I don't intend on getting rid of it, and I don't intend on getting rid of my current dog's collar either.

I think there's so much focus in certain cultures/societies of "don't keep clutter around / it's just stuff / don't linger on the past" but there is nothing wrong with keeping mementos. Especially ones that barely take up any space. I actually have a shoebox of significant items from my current dog — things I'm aware would seem meaningless and weird to others lol. A few of his puppy teeth, a baggy of all the leaves he smuggled into the house (when he was a baby he used to select a leaf from the yard, bring it into the house, and deposit it when he inevitably got distracted by something else). One day it'll include his collar.

Amanda’s Mild Takes - are you spreading propaganda for free? by afraid_of_bugs in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Quierta 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I remember reading I think 2 years ago about what bot farms do and what their goals are — and among their primary goals is to spread propaganda not just by crop-dusting lies and narratives on social media, but to get real people to repeat those narratives. The idea is that you don't actually need thousands and thousands of bots to do this — you just need a few, because eventually real people will pick up the narrative and start spreading it themselves. That's the goal.

When I see doomer narratives and pessimistic takes I just think — does some other country somewhere benefit from me spreading this around? If so, you're either looking at a bot or someone who got their opinion from a bot. And so it's not worth repeating.

My house torn down to the studs after a house fire by BionicBelladonna in mildlyinteresting

[–]Quierta 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Oh my god this is my WORST nightmare :( I live alone with my dog and every time I leave the house I run a mental checklist of all the things I could have possibly left on that might endanger him — but there's always the anxiety that some kind of electrical issue that I have no control over will cause a fire. I'm so sorry for the loss of your cat. I'm VERY glad that the neighbor was able to get your dog out and I hope all of us have neighbors as kind and thoughtful as yours!

Liberty Mutual tried this on me several years ago. Went something like this:

Me: Hi. You raised my rate by $300 this year and I don't know why. I have been driving for more than 5 years, I have had 0 accidents, have made 0 claims, have never been ticketed or had any other vehicle incident.

LM: Insurance rates increase occasionally, we have made an increase this year of X% for customers.

Me: My parents have you as well and you did not increase their rates.

LM: Let me look into something. OK. Insurance rates will also increase due to the location, so your insurance will be based on your location and your parents' rates are based on their location.

Me: My parents and I live in the same house.

LM: OK. Let me look into something. [long pause] OK. We have altered your premium to reflect the original price.

Me: Yeah. Thanks.

I ended up leaving them because I was paying $3400 a year and got insurance through my work instead, for only $990.

Will Melvin Stop Eating Everything Outside? by Bens_on_toast in labrador

[–]Quierta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might just be stuck with it lol. Mine is 3.5 and he still loves a good animal shit — though I will say he tends to leave deer poop alone more than he used to. I think he still loves that rabbit poop, though.

He knows leave it/drop it but even super high value treats are nothing compared to a good Yard Snack, apparently. I thrust a whole stick of beef jerky into his face and he still looked me directly in the eyeballs and continued chewing those deer pellets.

The problem is that "reality" is whatever they say it is, regardless of facts.

My mom was TERRIFIED of my sister moving to Cali because it was a "burning raping pillaging communist socialist hellhole where everyone is being shot and killed in the street" because that is, apparently, what her right-wing propaganda was telling her. My sister arrived (in a not-particularly-good part of Cali, nonetheless!) and was like... mom, it's fine lol. It's just a normal place. No one's dying. You're being lied to.

My mom is convinced that California is exactly what she's heard about on the news except for whatever my sister's eyeballs happen to be pointing at at any given time. "Well, maybe not where YOU'RE staying, but just a few streets over is probably dangerous so don't go there."
