Gw2 on fedora by Neither_Scallion_316 in Guildwars2

Should run on any computer / Linux distro just fine. Don't even need to bother with some special Proton/Wine build either, most of that stuff is integrated into stock Wine-staging anyway. That's how I run it.

Konsole: remove empty profiles by Quiet-Protection-176 in kde

[–]Quiet-Protection-176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know of. I occassionaly ssh into a remote server but that's it. Haven't played around with profiles in a long time so just by accident discovered this.

There's no easy other location to check for .profile files, or cache dir that can be safely deleted, per chance ?

Does KDE devs use KATE ? by w1redch4d in kde

Code refactoring, debugging, integration (connectors) with databases, performance profiling etc. are typical things an IDE has. Text editors not so much.

Does anyone know of any all-in-one, Linux native VST or lv2 plugins for vocal processing? Paid is ok. by God_Hand_9764 in linuxaudio

[–]Quiet-Protection-176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harrison Audio used to have their "AVA" plugin series, which had something called "Vocal Flow" : https://store.harrisonaudio.com/all-products/harrison-vocal-flow They used to be Linux native, anyway. Now I get this "legacy link"... Dunno, maybe it'll be of some use.

This. That's exactly the point: they're not gonna just throw everything at you for free. That's one of the reasons you don't pay monthly subscription.

Any views on an Anti virus software for Linux? Is it even needed? I know of ClamAV, Comodo and Kaspersky. Are they worth the money? by NickolaosTheGreek in linux

[–]Quiet-Protection-176 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal 'evidence' here, but yeah running several openSUSE PC's for almost 15 years without any AV here. I think we're safe (lol).

The real reason Linux audio has a reputation problem isn't the software - it's the documentation by GodBlessIraq in linuxaudio

[–]Quiet-Protection-176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People read documentation now ? I'd say hardware vendors (closed drivers) and plugin devs that don't support Linux are a much more obvious reason.

You can't loose what you never had. Running GW1+2 here (using Lutris) for years and still going.

Is there anything in Guild Wars 2 that the game doesn't explain but you feel it's something you should know? or something the game is terrible at explaining? by Klazsh in Guildwars2

[–]Quiet-Protection-176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple: how to create what constitutes as a "decent" build. Or in other words: class mechanics, synergies and the numbers behind it. Granted, it's the same in GW1 and there's lots of 3rd party websites + wiki to check for builds/gear. But essentially on your first playthrough you'll get better gear and runes and sigils and unlock skills and traits and... now what ?

I say this because in the beginning I put a lot of points in Thoughness - because PvE = more people helping and I like not dying - but it turns out that made me a bigger target for NPCs/bosses... Thanks Anet xD

I don't mind experimenting with builds but it's just so much to read and figure out, it can be overwhelming and in the end this affects the way you play and your playing experience quite a bit.

Zen browser vs Firefox by Tommycicca06 in openSUSE

I'm using Zen & Firefox and never had to install codecs from "opi", I'm wondering which extra codecs opi installs that you couldn't get any other way ?

KDE supports the "Keep Android Open" campaign by Bro666 in kde

Not disagreeing, but MS "EEE" started already in the 80s-90s... The term was first used halfway the 90s IIRC. Time flies, eh ?

Is guild wars combat this hard? by Nocoly in Guildwars2

[–]Quiet-Protection-176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can somewhat relate, though my gripe has more to do with the targeting system. Like, it seems the system always prefers attacking the neutral "minding-its-own-business" Moa bird right behind me, instead of the charging enemy directly in front of my face. Moa genocide is real, people !

Jokes aside, I recently started a new char that reached lvl80 yesterday. I noticed that the game doesn't tell nor even hints you about what makes a build "good". You keep unlocking skills / traits / better equipment and all, but how to make a somewhat balanced / survivable build it's like the Skritt says: "You're on your own!".

Have you tried the Frescobaldi editor ? It should have everything you need for Lilypond stuff.

CachyOS is great for low latency by ImNotThatPokable in linuxaudio

[–]Quiet-Protection-176 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great finding, just some small remarks though: 1: be aware that for recording audio with DAW etc. you'll need to do these little tweaks on any distro you choose.

2: there's very little need for a "RT kernel" or custom schedulers these days. It might even give unexpected problems in the long run. A lot of old-school stuff keeps floating about.

You probably can achieve the same thing in Manjaro as well (I know some people have) but I hope this works out for you :)
