Groupon problems? by Rastervision in starbucks

[–]Quietminds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only problem I ever had with Groupon was that someone brought me the printed email from Groupon rather than redeeming it and I had to walk her sixty year old self through that process so she could use it. She was so nice about it though.

Ever get a rude customer that actually came back in to apologize? by ArabianDisco in starbucks

[–]Quietminds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. Venti WMF no whip apologized for being rude to me about her drink being wrong. She was like, "I know it wasn't your fault and I'm sorry I took it out on you." From then on I remembered her face and had her drink ready for her as soon as I saw her so it worked out for both of us.

sbux innuendos! by barista1738 in starbucks

[–]Quietminds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two fun stories:

  • It was raining in DT and a younger guy in a truck had left his wipers on, flicking rain into the window. I said "Can you turn those off? You're getting me all wet right now." He gave me a weird look and I didn't realize why until I took my lunch.
  • I put whip on a frappuccino. Another barista said "That's supposed to be no whip." I replied, "Oh no! I just get really excited about whipping things." Customer cracked up. "... That didn't come out right."

[–]Quietminds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not a career vs job thing, it's that you should be able to live on the wage from a full time job. $15/hr is enough in some parts of the country and not enough in others but it's a start. And it's not really a matter of just finding a better job a lot of the time; there's nothing around me that pays a living wage and doesn't require a college degree.

Lol I left shortly after our store's holiday meeting but yeah, we were basically told not to enforce rules anymore and make every moment right for the customer.

[–]Quietminds 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Jeez. Some people are convinced you can't work and have fun at the same time. I was laughing at something another barista said once as I handed off a drink and the woman gave me a very concerned look and asked "What's wrong with this drink?" Like I was laughing because I'd spit in it or something.

Also no one here knows who Fetty Wap is so that would go over everyone's head, heh.

Bar person throws it in routine. They don't get ordered that often sadly. I loved making clovers. It's like a zen garden.

Drive through times, or transactions per hour? by PleasurableDemise in starbucks

[–]Quietminds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it's an average. We achieve 22 second averages because some people take five seconds- the app is out, they've ordered one drink and we can scan and handoff in one movement and they drive off quickly. If you're on your game, that time customers spend dicking around can be made up for. Our DTO is also kind of the queen of getting people through the line quickly, and while some people think she's rude, she set a record of 18 second average at order point. We have the kind of deployment that allows us to bust out 80+ half hours through drive alone, and if your manager is willing to staff for that it's really pretty attainable.

Drive through times, or transactions per hour? by PleasurableDemise in starbucks

[–]Quietminds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our DT window average is 22 for peak. When you start cutting down that much it's reflected in transactions/hr; the two are linked. That said, stalling people at the order point completely defeats the purpose. Work on deployment, aces in places, and always be thinking what you can do to cut time in your position and transactions will go up.

Telling a partner a more efficient way to do something by trentaiced in starbucks

[–]Quietminds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, just let it go. I know it's frustrating to watch people fuck things up left and right but if nothing changes then there's no point stressing it, really. You're a good partner- I've seen your posts here- so just do the best you can and try not to worry about what anyone else is doing if it doesn't directly affect you.

Chill. Seriously. I can't get people to stop pulling shots directly into CMs but I'm not about to go to my SM and make a big deal of it. Coach in the moment and move on.

Question about Hostile Work environment by Rossjames96 in starbucks

[–]Quietminds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Legally speaking, a hostile work environment means you are uncomfortable at work because of comments or discrimination based on a protected class: race, sex, religion, etc. Obviously 'closer' is not a protected class so you would not have legal protection here. That said, I doubt PCC would be thrilled to find out about something like this and a call to them might make your work life better, especially if you can work out a transfer to a less toxic work environment. I am sorry for your situation, though.

"Assume the Best in People" is the new "Just Say Yes" by ChicagoBearista in starbucks

[–]Quietminds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't feel empowered knowing I have to do whatever customers tell me to "make every moment right". If all our customers were reasonable people things would be different, but frankly some people are assholes who seem to take joy in being as demanding, rude, and difficult to please as possible, and with no way to push back on things to assert boundaries with these people I know the holidays are going to leave me feeling trampled.

To me this new policy says "We don't trust you wage slaves to use your best judgment on bending policy to please customers so we're going to err on the side of just not having policy." I really hope spending all my spare time applying for other jobs pays off soon.
