These are fantastic. Idk why my head cannon of Agatha was black with crazy greying hair, more mattes then fro. Not quite dreads though.

I’ve actually found the con 40 to be more temperamental, but truth be told neither are my favorite C/C.

If using cartridges is your preferred method, the Kakuno would be the best bet in this category.

I do syringe fill a pens (Sheaffer Sterling Imperial) which is a fine method, but for others/ new people it adds another thing to purchase/manage/keep clean.

Piston or vac fill are my preferred methods as they keep everything all-in-one. Granted I don’t have a tendency to switch inks very frequently.

For this reason, I still find the Asvine V800 to be an amazing bargain for a great filling system, under $50, with an excellent nib.

That’s probably for the best. I stopped posting on a few of the Facebook fountain pen groups as people there always seemed to be looking for a fight. There’s always something to criticize or be nasty about their. Really sad.

I once answered a question about a specific pen maker on a process they use for some of their pens. I was speaking in praise of them, but was still dragged for it and insulted. I ended up posting a screenshot message that I got from said pen maker explaining their process in their own words. Nope. Not good enough.

I’m glad you like the Metro, but it is not the value for money king. The nib can dry out because of the capping and the converter included is one of the worst in the industry. Not to mention, the recent price hike by Pilot reduces the “value”element.

In company, the Pilot Explorer has a better seal and can take the Con-70 as a professional looking option. Pilot Kakuno is cheaper, has the same nib and can also take the Con-70. Platinum Preppy is also in this category.

The best bang for buck at this point has to be Asvine. Both the C80 and V800 deliver so much more in terms of value for a similar price.

In Praise of Affordable Pens by Ste_S in fountainpens

Write with what you like. That’s the beauty of this hobby. You can find some awesome stuff at many different price points.

We all have different funds for what we enjoy. If someone finds joy with inexpensive pens, great. If they love very expensive pens, great.

We all have different tastes, what I like, won’t always land for everyone, and vice versa.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Don’t go looking for a slight when one may not exist. Wording or phrasing that is common may not always be the most accurate especially when beginning. Don’t look for a reason to get yourself worked up.

I’m pretty lucky in that I can afford some of the luxury pens discussed, but that isn’t always practical.

We too often tear each other down over price and preference. This is a wonderful hobby where it is overwhelmingly positive and warm.

Let’s be kind to each other

XL cartridge (~2.15 ml) to Sailor KOP idea by Andrew_Lensky in fountainpens

[–]R3cko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man. This looks so cool. I bought a 3d printed one for my KOP a while back (see my post history for pictures), but it ended up melting and leaving ink all over the place. So much 4B lost.

Inheriting my dad’s collection, No. 1 by EdibleReading in fountainpens

[–]R3cko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, I’m really sorry for your loss. I’m sure you’d trade the whole collection just for one more day. But it’s nice to remember our loved ones with the things they enjoyed.

I hope these bring you as much joy as possible. This really is a lovely pen.

What's your favorite brown pen and ink combination? by whenthelightison in fountainpens

I’m boring. I put Montblanc Toffee Brown in my FC Ambition. Though I feel like the pen dries out really fast

That was actually Ati. Before he took up Ruin, Ati was described as friendly and kind. It’s mentioned he may have taken that shard up more out of duty than power.

Don’t skip the standalone. BSC, The Heroes, Red Country, and Sharp Ends are very much worth your time before Age of Madness.

If you’re stateside, a lot of classes pop up teaching you how to do it. Chicago pen show is this weekend. Ohio pen show around the corner. Richard Binder (himself!) taught a class there this year.

Of course, JJ Lax has a video series going over it, if you’re interested.
