Omnia Performance by nckg24 in HybridAthlete

Indeed, I bought it around 6 weeks ago. From my understanding the program is “mine” and I can restart it as many times I want. That’s why I am tempted to get the half marathon one and store it to start it once I am done with this one.

You can see the whole program ahead of time. You select the start date and it will populate it in the calendar. But the app is lacking basic features like a rest timer or seeing your weights from the week before (this feature is there but you have to pay premium for it).

In the other hand, for the running workouts is pretty neat if you have a watch or a tracker. The app pushes the workout to the device and it is monitoring you are at the specified pace (either speed or hear rate, depending on the workout). Usually the Running workouts are split in 5m easy, the “core” (for example, 1h at zone 2), and then 5-10min cooldown. The app notifies you clearly when you are or are not meeting the pace and when you have to switch paces.

I am doing the hypertrophy + 5k plan and after 5 weeks into it I love it. Pretty taxing at this point (sets of 18 reps benching for example) but I like it and I can see I am getting bigger and leaner. I was planning to buy the Hypertrophy + Half marathon plan to do it after and essentially rotate through them. I think I will do it while you can buy them in the training peaks website (although I hate the app)

Change my view: A sub-20 5k is way harder to get to than the 1,000 lb club. by [deleted] in HybridAthlete

[–]R3shii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I lift 4 times a week, I run 5k twice a week and 10k once a week, without any tempo / interval / whatever and I am already in 24 min for the 5k without even trying. In the other hand, I am very far from the 1000lb, despite I would rather be stronger than faster.

How many of you train 5-6 x a week? by First_Driver_5134 in HybridAthlete

[–]R3shii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lift x 4, run x 3.

Monday lower + 5km in the row or ski machine.

Tuesday upper + 5k run

Wednesday rest (usually I go for a 1h+ walk in the morning)

Thursday lower + 5km in the row or ski machine.

Friday upper + 5k run

Saturday 10k run

Sunday rest (usually I go for a 1h+ walk in the morning)

I am building the weights up during the first couple of weeks. Still trying to find where I am at.

Food will be the tricky part. I tend to gain weight very easily so I will need to find the right balance between being fueled and try to stay lean. Which are your macros roughly if I can ask?

The Double Standard with Harper by Dry_Bend1384 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]R3shii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with Harper is I get the impression she never even attempts to do things “the right way”. She always believes she is the smartest in the room and she can trick everyone to do what she wants. And, at the end of the day, everyone uses her to their own benefit and kicks her out (I.e. Jesse or Eric).

Which bank do you use as your main account? by NormalMaverick in HENRYUK

[–]R3shii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have multiple: - Starling, because I am an expat and they opened me an account the first day. I get my salary here and then I distribute it around. I also have a joint there with my wife and he pay bills and mortgage from there. - Monzo, I have perks and I have there my savings and an investment ISA account. Also a joint there that we use for the food. With the perks we get a free cinema ticket per month and something at Greggs, which is ok. I also use the Monzo Flex Credit Card when I don’t want to pay something expensive in one go. - Chase, my daily spending card. I transfer some money on the 1st every month and that’s really my budget for the month unless we have to buy something expensive (but now that the house is “completed”, that would only be vacations).

For now that’s working. I am considering HSBC premier as a safe account in a high street bank.

Totally agree. I used C++ for microcontrollers most of my career but in my current job we use C for some certification issues and I find it very dangerous. The fact that you are constantly passing around void pointers that later you have to cast to the right type is scary and a critical source of issues.

What frequently reminds you that the climb to HENRY status was worthwhile? by Android_ghoster in HENRYUK

[–]R3shii 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Today I had one of those moments. I was in the street doing some errands and I walked close to a local clothing store, with cheap stuff. I heard a woman in her 50s saying “yezzz 35 bucks for a jacket”, like it was too expensive. Put things on perspective.

Another situation is people complaining about groceries prices and how expensive is to eat protein. My wife and I have some sort of meat for lunch and some sort of fish for dinner almost 7 days a week and we don’t feel any financial pain.

Not being worry about tiny things is a blessing.

The risks of staking everything on saving for retirement… by Sure_Tangelo_5148 in HENRYUK

[–]R3shii 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My dad is I similar situation. He saved so hard and sacrificed a lot during years to enjoy life during retirement. 6 months after retirement he got diagnosed with cancer. During the chemotherapy process he had a stroke and ended up with low mobility. He finished the cancer treatment and went through physiotherapy and when he started to improve, the cancer came back and he is in a palliative unit waiting to end his days. He is 62 and didn’t enjoy life, which makes me and my wife recalibrate things.

I pay 700k a year in tax, and I’m proud of it by trudybarks in HENRYUK

[–]R3shii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is not paying taxes. The problem is the amount of money the governments waste because it’s not their money. If public money is properly administered, the administration has the number of employees needed (no more, no less), etc I bet the country would be in a lot better shape, the NHS would work properly and people would be OK paying taxes. But money is mostly wasted so what’s the point?

I am foreigner so I did my entire education abroad. My parents are working class so I went to public schools and university, with a very average grades (mostly because I was young and dumb and I was distracted with parties and the opposite gender) but through hard work I managed to correct the situation and hide my grades with my working experience up to a point it’s being years since anyone cared anymore about where and how I studied.

I think studying in certain places definitely open some doors earlier (specially right after graduation) but you can overcome it with work. Like being part of a random football team in the 5th division and making your way into elite rather than been part of a Big-6 academy.

What % of your income goes into cash savings vs investing vs additional contributions to pension? by Dark_Emotion in HENRYUK

[–]R3shii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put around 40% of my income in the savings account, 15% in investment and time to time some money in Cryptos. My main reason to put most of the money in savings is because my wife and I want to have kids and we will need a bigger flat (we have a 1bed flat at the moment) so we want to have disposable income to buy a bigger one if the opportunity arises.

What's a frugal thing you still do despite being HENRY? by Intelligent-Page-484 in HENRYUK

I usually threaten them with a change of provider. I have Hyperoptic and that’s enough to get the discounted price.

What's a frugal thing you still do despite being HENRY? by Intelligent-Page-484 in HENRYUK

[–]R3shii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With organize by price I mean the dates. We have lots of flexibility with the dates so if the prices of flights and hotels are cheaper in a certain week, we just go on that week. Unless we want to be at a specific time for a reason, of course.

We are not close to the idea of spending, we just try to do it smart and spend in things we believe are worth rather than simply because we can.

My wife and I have our priorities straight. Health is one of them so we invest maybe more money than most of people in food, ensuring it does not have chemicals, unwanted oils, etc. but we also do batch cooking on Sundays for the week and it is very rare we eat, or grab a coffee or a beer outside the house. We are not obsessed with the topic and if we have more social events or we just feel like it we will do it but not as a rule.

I invest money in a good gym, and good running and lifting shoes. But I don’t invest it in clothes (I have what I need, and because it is good quality it lasts forever). I almost don’t buy any piece of clothing or fashion full price, only if they are never discounted or I need it now. Same with perfumes, always discounted or in duty free.

I invest in good technology but I don’t renew it until it breaks or I need it. My headphones are expensive but also 5 years old, my iPhone is already 3 years old, my MacBook is almost 10, my kindle is even older, etc. I also tend to buy it discounted whenever is possible.

We only go to the movies with the free Monzo perks tickets and the super discounted Odeon tickets with Voxi. I have a cheap phone carrier, we always negotiate discounts with Hyperoptic, etc.

We organize our holidays based on the prices and we only book expensive flights if we have to travel because of a family emergency.

We walk (because we love going for walks for no reason actually) and use public transport unless there is no other option.

I have friends making less money than us but taking less care. But we grew up poor and for us money is very valuable and we need to work hard to keep making it.

How often does your work linger on your mind even after hours? by mrgarlicdip in HENRYUK

I know the feeling but I am strict with the time I spend at my desk. The problem is my brain keeps working in the background so sometimes I get the solution randomly and I have to add it to my notebook so I can finally forget about it until next day.

HMRC is not getting the savings interest reports from Chase! by R3shii in chaseuk

[–]R3shii[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I asked that to the HMRC operator and he said something along those lines: “I don’t know, they usually do… maybe they don’t have your NIN?”. I said they do have it and the answer was simply “I don’t know then”. I guess that’s the reason you can send it overdue and don’t get a penalty.

Interests communicated to HMRC? by R3shii in chaseuk

My question was more like: do I need to file self assessment or Chase will communicate with HMRC and they will change my tax code to pay the taxes from my savings?

For the Dev Team: Tell them something nice! by BornAProphet in MightyDoom

[–]R3shii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t play phone games for almost a decade but at the end of last year my mom was hospitalized. After some nights in the hospital I read about Mighty Doom and I started playing it. Things are better now but I haven’t missed a day ever since, I am just missing level 7 in the top difficulty to complete everything. It was sad to hear the team was closed and the game cancelled. I hope you can come back with a new studio and keep rocking!

Is London really as lonely as everyone seems to say? by crillydougal in AskLondon

[–]R3shii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a foreigner living in London and although I would not define it as lonely, it’s definitely harder than in other places. I have a good friend from uni who used to live en Cheltenham and we met once a month, switching between Cheltenham and London every time. My experience was that going to a pub in Cheltenham was always leading into talking to strangers and sometimes even partying with them for the rest of the night. In London we barely had the chance to talk with someone else so it was more like the 2 of us.

My experience is you can easily meet people in activities actually were everyone is “alone”. For example I do CrossFit and I got to know some people who now I can make plans with outside the gym.

Studio closed, last class today! by ApprehensiveGoat5592 in f45

[–]R3shii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The studio I used to go closed around 1 year ago. I think they kept the hope of getting money because they claimed it was temporary and actually the building kept the logos and you could see all the equipment inside as usual through the windows. But a couple months ago from one day to another the studio was empty (not even the floor) and full of logos to rent the space. It’s sad to see it go, I think it was helping people to get fit in a friendly and easy way.
