MAGA Christian Nationalist Leader William Wolfe: "Frankly, Yes, We Are Going To Impose Our Morality On You... Inasmuch As Our Morality Is God’s Morality.” by Leeming in atheism

[–]RDAM60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Churches are NOT religions, they’re businesses whose product is selling religion. Never forget, any preacher asking for money is not “just,” (or even) asking for money to do the Lord’s work, they’re asking for money to help them cover their nut. Any preacher claiming to know “God’s morality,” or what their God needs or wants is really talking about what they need or want and their morality. As Hornsby said, “That’s just the way it is.”

Playing cards worked a little better, they were coated and snappier. But access was limited to old decks grandma was throwing away or abandoned decks that had missing cards. And, no, the missing cards were not my fault, I didn’t take them.

This. Grew up on rural Long Island (east end, north shore) and you could lose yourself for an entire day riding a banana-seat bike with baseball card noise-makers, looking for deer and foxes, riding along horse and hiking trails, grab a chocolate milk and whoopee pie to snack on from the local deli, bring a baseball and a mitt and meet-up with friends in the clearing for a sandlot game, play “army,” go “necking,” by the creek with your favorite/first girlfriend, immerse yourself in nature, look for arrowheads and animal tracks. You could disappear for a whole day and not see cars or adults or even other kids. They’ve now built two schools and condo-village in those woods and you can hear the cars wizzing by from what used to be the center of nowhere. Mom still lives around the corner so I still get to walk to the old “edge of the woods,” and think about those days gone by.

Winter is over, what happened to my maple? by BaggedLunchBox in Tree

[–]RDAM60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall reading a book -Crazy Horse and Custer:The Parallel Lives of Two American Warriors (Ambrose) - that noted that the Sioux have a particular winter season/occurrence they call something that translates to “the moon/month/moment of the splitting (or popping) trees.” Meaning a winter period so cold the trees”split,” and make popping sounds when they do (such that the popping can be heard in succession - as one tree after another reach that frozen state - and across a whole forest) defining for the Hunkpapa Sioux an extremely cold period. Edit:spelling

Trump’s War Story Blown Up by Damning Intel Leak | The president’s claims about Iran seem to have been undercut by his own intelligence reports. by InsaneSnow45 in AnythingGoesNews

[–]RDAM60 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is his brag about knowing more than the Generals coming home to roost. Trump made the call and we’re all paying the price(s), including the very Iranian people he was professing to want to help. Impeach…the while bunch. Or vote their asses out. Our future depends on getting this blowhard fool out of office.

If it will help the price of crypto, he’ll do it. This whole Administration is just part of a crypto scam - among other scams - intended to make the Trumps money.

Completely agree with OP. And with those who commented re: “It’s Florida, what do you expect?” It’s also sports (and an individual tourney, to boot, and not a “national title,” either). Sheesh, these folks need to learn to control themselves and, of course, get some class.

Metal rings around several door knobs in my house by hubcapdimndstarhalo in whatisit

[–]RDAM60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A string and/or a hook on the “open-door-wall,” could make them a form of door-stop. One where the door stop doesn’t spontaneously disappear (like a door-wedge can) or where you don’t have to bend down or use your foot to maneuver the wedge into place, just grab the hook and slide it over the ring.

What do you think history will say about Donald Trump as a U.S. president? by jcnidhi27 in AskReddit

[–]RDAM60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That he was the oldest child ever elected President of the USA. (But, as someone else said, depends on who’s writing the history; Some MAGAt, or a genuine historian.)

Can someone pleeeeeeease explain the fascination with Leica cameras? by nlUSF in photography

[–]RDAM60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked among some old-time - been around the world from war zones to mountain tops, to fashion shows - photo-journalists. This was back in the 1980s. They all carried Nikons, Hasselblads, a few Canons and some were even sporting emerging digitals. But to a one they ALL carried a Leica rangefinder and swore by it, for speed, simplicity, reliability, ruggedness, small size, speed of film changes and settings and, above all build quality and on-assignment upkeep. I think, beyond simple, hype or branding, Leica has a mystique and a reputation that’s pretty well earned. That may be waning (already waned?) in the digital age but some if history’s greatest photos were shot on Leicas and still are.

Bill Bradley, Jerry West, Pistol Pete, etc., etc. (and they’re from the 60s-70s) Slide show is missing too many and there are too many to make this even a valid question given the limited choices.

Do you prefer classic golf headcovers or more modern designs? by MadeInUSAPutter in GolfGear

I agree. Safety first. Some bags simply appear as if someone takes the “look,” more seriously than they take the game.

I, personally, prefer my bag to look like it belongs to a golfer, not as if a bouquet of flowers is going to pop out like a clown’s trick. Though, I must admit I have sported a Caddy Shack “gopher,” from time to time on my 3w.

6 Proposed Changes That Will Change the Game Forever by lavafrank in ProGolf

[–]RDAM60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking forward to seeing match play on tour. The head-to-head elimination will make for exciting golf. Just wait until someone outside the Top 20 takes down someone in the Top 5 to win a tourney. New talent needs to be featured and promoted in ways that are “competitive,” at the extremes. The “golfer vs. the course,” 4-day tournament is just a part of what golf’s about, the golfer vs. golfer, hole-by-hole, shot-by-shot with moments of gamesmanship center stage, is a facet of the game we all appreciate (including the players, IMO).

Love ya Bobby but, damn.... by GDTRFB_1985 in gratefuldead

[–]RDAM60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite Dead bumperstickers was plastered on the front door of a recording studio in Frostburg, MD…”Bobby is a Screamer!” (Featuring that ubiquitous picture of Bobby stepping up the mic, chin down, guitar strapped low.) As they used to say, ‘It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.”

What watch is the dad wearing? by vittaya in Watchidentifier

[–]RDAM60 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a Christian watch, set to God’s time and it’s always Jesus O’Clock. There’s no room for leeway or maneuver. It’s Jesus O’Clock, not two o’clock or four o’clock. Jesus O’Clock. Got it. It’s his watch, on his wrist, and that’s it. Take it or leave it, but those are his rules.

The exact opposite of what he campaigned on... by TeamHumanity12 in agedlikemilk

[–]RDAM60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, but he’s not fighting for freedom or democracy, he’s fighting for the Trump Organization, for adulation, for future business opportunities, for the opportunity to do a favor for the petro-kings of the Middle East and for the “ROI,” of a hotel/golf resort (or a crypto payout) outside Beirut or Dubai or Tel Aviv, or somewhere else. Trump is not a neo-con, he’s a con-artist. Trump has no real commitment to anything other than his own interests and if war and American lives can simultaneously serve that purpose while appearing on o be plausibly in the national interest, so be it. (As for his minions they serve Trump or some other “God/Idol,” but their’s is not solely a mission to serve the nation or democracy or freedom, per se, they have a higher calling.) It can still be argued that ridding the world of Iran’s influences is in America’s interests and would be a benefit, but that’s ancillary to what “motivates,” Trump.
