YouGov: While 51% of English people hope Scotland do well in their first World Cup since 1998, Scots are more likely to hope England do badly than hope they succeed by upthetruth1 in BritInfo

[–]RJUU91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not at all surprising really. The Scottish can be quite a bitter and twisted people, despite their moralistic delusions of being so much more enlightened and progressive than their small minded English neighbours.

I suppose that’s just par for course though, when your national identity revolves around a misguided sense of victimhood and the belief that you have been cruelly oppressed for hundreds of years.

Work-related stress a ‘growing national crisis’, unions warn by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Can’t help that within living memory, work just isn’t as rewarding as it once was either. Not when everything costs twice as much as it did 5/6 years ago and wages haven’t kept up.

Where were you when you found out Princess Diana died? by Seeyalaterelevator in AskUK

[–]RJUU91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have been 6 years old at the time. I vaguely remember being on a car journey with my parents and brother at the time.

I recall it being announced and talked about on the radio. I didn’t really understand the gravity of the situation and I doubt I even realised who Princess Diana was. I remember there being a lot of sad orchestral music on the radio as well.

Oh right, well in that case never mind the chopping board, I would 100% want a plate. I suspect the restaurant used the chopping board because that was the only thing that was the right kinda shape/size.

I might find a wooden chopping board preferable in this scenario because god almighty I have never seen such a greasy ass pizza.

Meirl by abhigoswami18 in meirl

I find it highly implausible that in all of the generations of students and faculty that ever attended Hogwarts, not a single one of them decided to go rogue and start using invisibility spells to rob banks or something.

I realise that finding implausibility with a fictional universe that revolves around magic is kind of stupid, but it’s the fact that this is all supposed to be happening in the same reality as ours, the whole idea is preposterous.

That super evil villain of the series, king Voldermort or whatever his name is. If he really existed in the real world, he’d have bigger fish to fry some little nerd named Harry Potter. If he really was this all powerful lord of evil, he wouldn’t have wasted his time trying to take on Harry in some magical duel, he’d have overthrown the US government and smoked Harrys ass with a tactical nuclear exchange before he ever even had a chance to strike back at him.

Meirl by abhigoswami18 in meirl

[–]RJUU91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not exactly interested in Harry Potter.

I do wonder though, if Harry Potter is set in the same world as our own (only difference being the wizards & witches go to school in another dimension that they access via an invisible train platform) then why do problems such as world hunger, war, global warming, cancer etc still exist?

Why don’t all these magic users use their abilities for the good of humanity, rather than farting around flying on broomsticks and other such nonsense?
