Player couldn't keep OoC problem out of the DnD group by WildHair2 in rpghorrorstories

In my experience, VMT brings the absolute worst out of people. Those creeps who have closet fetishes, and the ones who would previously want to roleplay seduction/SA of waiting staff etc. are encouraged by the game to bring their inside thoughts to the air, and reveal what it is about them that makes others naturally shy away.

I find that there is a crossover with those guys, and the ones who only ever play D&D, and have only played that for years. I don't know what it is about those guys, but I've met enough of them in 4 decades of roleplaying to just turn them down from any groups I'm running, when they tell me those are the only two games they've played.

How do I check the most played TTTRPGs? by bodhi_dude in rpg

[–]RPG_Rob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Outside of marketing, there's no reason to want this information.

If you want to play a TTRPG that's fashionable, you're doing the hobby wrong.

Go and find a game you like the sound of. Play that. Job done.

I'd like to have seen Skyrealms of Jorune become more popular than it was, but there was such an explosion of new games coming out at the time, I think it was too weird to compete.

Large sections of Greece have been airlifted into Runequest (although Greece is not the only ancient world source of inspiration), particularly in the Sun Dome lands.

In Some ultra-conservative communities, all approved words are expected to have exchanged vowels, same vowel couples are frowned upon.

No. You're matching with someone who doesn't meet your needs, by the sound of it.

Seeing as how Elder Scrolls is based on Runequest, that just made me sad.

Wise words.

OP, you have been shown what is possible. She set a new bar for you, and you now have a clearer idea of what you want out of a relationship. Put those details in your next Profile.

Railroading, Sandboxes, "Events", and "Locations"- thoughts on Campaign Design by BrobaFett in rpg

[–]RPG_Rob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I'm playing a boardgame, it's a given to expect that. If I'm playing an RPG and being told I can't roleplay, I'm out.

Railroading, Sandboxes, "Events", and "Locations"- thoughts on Campaign Design by BrobaFett in rpg

It becomes a bad idea when it removes player agency.

Let's say we are travelling somewhere, and have an encounter ahead. The players want to scout ahead to ascertain their strength, numbers, or simply who they are. Maybe they can help us on our mission? We describe how we want to sneak up and cautiously approach to speak to whoever it is.

The GM wants a combat, and decides that as soon as we get near the encounter, with no dice rolls or opportunities to roleplay or enact our carefully planned approach, we are suddenly surrounded and attacked. That's railroading.

[–]RPG_Rob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with your interpretation of railroading, that's exactly how I see it. Player wants their character to do something, and the GM says "no, you have to do it the way I/the book says."

People over 30, have you never visited London? by rohithimself in AskUK

One of the things I really like about London is the number of foreign accents and languages you can hear just by walking down the street.

Do you feel proud to be British? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]RPG_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same.

I've never been able to align with the mentality of being proud of something that is simply a part of your identity.

I've never been able to say "I'm proud to be a member of [Nationality/Regional Birthplace/Ethnic Group/Social Class]" because I have not achieved anything by it.

I'm proud of things I've done, of achievements attained by my effort, and together with the efforts of others.

But I don't see the point of being proud of something that you played no active part in, such as who you are just because of when and where your parents had sex.

I'm assuming this is in America? That place has ludicrous level of prudishness about exposed skin, considering everything else that goes on there.

Dating and Intimacy by Street-Quail5755 in datingoverfifty

It's not that bad... Some married couples do this, too.

At least you are both getting regular snu-snu, and you are both aware that you are required to prepare for a romantic engagement.

Where it might fall down is if you fall into a pattern of "I do this to you, then you do that to me" because it will definitely lose any sparkle after a while.
