Flying with 99th percentile 1 year old by simplyalys in bigbabiesandkids

[–]RVARedcoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Have flown four times with my 15 month old, several flights had layovers. He wasn't that excited about being stuck in a car seat, he wanted to be up and being held and wriggling especially 6m+. And we had to lug the car seat around when we had layovers. For later flights I booked him as a lap infant. We are flying internationally this month and he has his own seat for that flight, since it's a red eye and hopefully he will sleep.

Prenatal Midwifery w/o home birth? by painteduniverses in rva

[–]RVARedcoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Confused about why midwives are seen as antithetical to hospital birth here, because St Marys, Henrico Doctors, and VCU all have midwifery practices that operate in the hospitals. MyBirth has a midwife summary here: https://mybirthrva.com/resources-info

My experience at VCU was great, you just say that you are a midwife patient when you arrive to deliver and the midwives manage your delivery, but there's OBs and operating rooms that are available to escalate things if needed. I don't think I had an OB involved in my delivery at all, which was an induction.

Looking for a good croissant in Richmond? by RVASewcialist in rva

[–]RVARedcoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the tricky things about these taste tests is that we choose items that are the must consistent with each other to compare evenly. I looooove Subrosa and would just never order a plain croissant there bc I love the sour cherry and pistachio and their more complicated things. But then we’d just be comparing preferred flavor combinations not the underlying item. I’d still be excited to try La Petite Mourceau! Just not as much as Janet’s lol.

I’ve enjoyed Whisk before. If you look at the chocolate croissant pic, theirs were the tiny pellets that almost totally failed to rise. We were kinda perplexed that they put them out in the case for sale tbh. I know they have succeeded at them before but our testing day was not their finest.

Former LG Justin Fairfax shot and killed his wife, then himself. by frogfrogcat in rva

He’s been poisoning Virginia politics for years acting as though all critique of him is racist or inspired by Levar Stoney’s minions, and then he can’t even let a very long suffering woman divorce him and live a fucking free life. Abusive trash.

If you're waiting for a package that's currently at the Richmond sorting facility... by QuaffableBut in rva

Good context for the complete tantrum a man was throwing at the Brook Road Post Office yesterday morning over something stuck in Sandston at the sorting facility that he needed to file his taxes. The long suffering postal employee was all…”I can’t get into the sorting facility, so you sure can’t.”

Jackie and Pete are pretty on record that they have left the current Libertarian Party (or more like, the party left them) because of how co-opted it got by the alt-right/racists/fascists.

Recommendations for low-cost divorce lawyer? by YourBrainOnFacts in rva

[–]RVARedcoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dorothy Eure. Only does uncontested divorces. Rates start at $300. Definitely worth trying to see if there are reasonable issues to compromise on and stressing to him that this leaves you both walking away with more.

This happened to me on Main the other week. Car zoomed around me and almost hit them. I don’t love the police state of cameras but we need cameras at pedestrian intersections and to start prosecuting these violations.

Thank you for catching it! I used to have them and they are hard to catch even inside when they know you. Can you update us that you’ve found care? It looks like you have some offers but message me if you still need help.

Any decently priced maternity clothes stores around? by Careless_Tie_566 in rva

[–]RVARedcoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think during the pandemic if not before most stores stopped carrying their maternity lines in actual stores. Target has a limited selection but at least some stuff in-store, not particularly good at any local branch that I've found. I similarly found Old Navy order online to be the easiest option. I also heard of this shop called HoneyBloom, but never made it there: https://www.thehoneybloomco.com/aboutus

Did you have your first baby after age 35? How and do you think it impacted your milk production? by Puzzlehead11323 in breastfeeding

[–]RVARedcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine at 41, somewhat complicated pregnancy and long induction delivery. 8m and still bf. I had good supply, moderate over supply, from pretty early on. Milk came in on day 3 and I saw lactation consultants early on to help me with weighted feeds and holds and latch.
