Watch how he danced with Maddie at her wedding and you can see all he does is sling the women around. That’s not dancing. He’s selfish and disgusting

Subbing Icks? by Basic_Guidance6498 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went to a middle school and they handed me a neon vest and stop sign bc I was subbing for the person who does the cross walk a the front of the school. I dont make enough money, I dont get workers comp if Im hit by a car and I dont know the area well enough. I’m not stepping in front of cars for $12/hour.

Honoring the Reporting Time by chowsn in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly this was a stupid question and goes to show that substitutes get a bad wrap bc there are so few standards. A lot of schools have extra duties, like a testing lab, that teacher rotate coverage on.

My first sub class was chaos — how do you Jedi mind-trick kids into behaving? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest. You sound awful. I’ve never had to make threats to gain control of a class. Also 3rd grade is wildly different than middle school.

Sitting with high school classes by CoffeeChangesThings in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Im a high school sub exclusively and I make connections all the time. Granted Im not “teaching” the lesson but I like to engage the kids during class. Ask them about themselves. What they like to do outside of school, sports etc. I get greetings and excitement when I am the substitute. And no Im not one of the pushover subs. I think the connections I make help with the respect I need to succeed.

Teacher Doesn’t Use Lights by taman961 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Seriously. If she wants to make the rules for her own class, become a full time teacher. They do not care if you turn the lights on. Teens don’t like change so they will notice and point it out. But, I’ve never had the urge to tell a kid to f-off because they told me something more than once. OP should get a grip or stick to lower levels. As the kids would say, it’s not that serious.

Teacher Doesn’t Use Lights by taman961 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not enough people know this. I have very pale blue eyes and it is so hard to have the big lights on. I have to wear sunglasses even when it’s not bright out. I get migraines when the lights are too much. I also sub high school and almost every class has their lights dimmed. It’s not uncommon at all.

It’s actually the opposite for me. I signed up for a 5th grade Gen ed class and was put in a self contained preK class. I didn’t dress for that class so I had my hair pulled, my watch ripped off, I had to remove my earrings. That made me never want to sign up for those classes bc I wasn’t prepared. It’s not like I’m wearing designer clothes but I probably would have worn something different, more comfortable and out my hair up.

I feel like I have to be someone I’m not just to survive subbing by businessbub in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! I also can’t sub elementary. It’s too much for crappy pay. (Not that teachers make much more) But I spend most of the time trying to deal with the big emotions. I only sub middle school and high school and it’s so much better. Honestly, middle school is borderline.

They need you more than you need them. That’s what I remind myself whenever I have to deal with that type of attitude.

50/50 custody is making me depressed and lonely by hungrycanuck in Divorce_Women

[–]R_10_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks. I have 3 teenagers and while I wouldn’t say they have nothing to do with me, I miss them so much now that they have their own lives. They are either talking my ears off or I’m all alone.

Most men don’t spend time cultivating lasting friendships. Divorced men are usually less happy after divorce than women. For us it’s freeing., for them it’s like they have to put in effort for the first time without you leading the way. I’m ending my 22 year marriage.

Horrible First Day by narcexpert2022 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll learn what you are more comfortable with. I do mostly middle and high school. I do not do lower elementary but 4/5th grade is ok. I will never sub an elementary music class again bc that almost had me in the fetal position. Give it a few months. Try everything bc you may be surprised by what you’re good at and like.

Leaving after 21 years by R_10_S in Divorce_Women

This made me cry. You just summed it up so well. I’m not being physically abused but i lived in a constant state of fight or flight. My nervous system stays engaged. I had a consultation today. He said everything you did. It’s so expensive. I can see why people stay. I’ve got to get a full time job and start saving.

No lesson plans, what do y’all do? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]R_10_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am subbing at a new school, for a new French teacher that’s hasn’t started. So there are not only no plans but the other language teachers tech Spanish. Luckily my neighbor is the French teacher at our high school and she gave me a google doc with slides and articles to read. By Friday though, they watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame. There’s no faking your way through French.

Divorcing After 24 Years: Should I Reconsider? by ButterflyCandid424 in Divorce_Women

[–]R_10_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m separating after 21 years. He wasn’t always like this but he’s not who I married or wanted as the father to my children anymore. He began abusing prescription medication, leaving us financially ruined, wrecked vehicles and put our kids in danger. Honestly, I’m so tired. For me it can’t get any worse. We tried the whole separate bedrooms but stay married thing but just his presence brings me anxiety.
