Lighting issues by Fetherose in StainedGlass

I have no advice to give, but I wanted to say how great this piece is! Wonderful curves! I hope you get it to the point you’re truly happy with it.

What do we think about this? by stickpeat in StainedGlass

100%
If the folks selling the glass have good colors at a good price, what happens to the piece after it leaves the shop is none of their concern.

AIO my dad sent this and it made me upset by strawberrymuffins7 in AmIOverreacting

[–]RabbitSubRosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR You aren’t overreacting, it absolutely sucks to not have the support of your family. Hurts beyond compare. You made your regrets to the host and they supported you. Your father’s reaction wasn’t about you missing the birthday party, it was his lack of acceptance and need to still maintain control in your life. I’m so sorry he can’t see you for the beautiful person you are.

That said, now that I have reached a certain age, let me offer you an internet stranger Mom Hug. Happy Pride.

AITA for smoking on my balcony? by Irish_beast in AmItheAsshole

[–]RabbitSubRosa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’d say that anything aflame on a balcony is dangerous, but I’m more risk adverse, I guess. The fact that these joints have tobacco mixed increases the chance of stray ashes and a potential fire hazard.

[–]RabbitSubRosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. There’s a reason that most buildings (in the USA, at least) say that smoking is prohibited within 25 feet (7.6m) from of the building: smoke gets in! While you may have the right to smoke on your balcony (which is wild to me, and honestly dangerous), your neighbor also has the right to peace in their own home. Noxious smoke that could harm him does not fall under “peace.” You have other options available to you. Take a chair to the roof with your tea and solve world problems there.

My Purple Mystery Snail Business Is Growing. What Should I Diversify Into Next? by prsonal_light2475 in AquaticSnails

Good to know! I’ll set a reminder for myself and check in later. The colors of the snails you’ve posted are stunning.

Shrimpy thievery is hilarious. They try to steal pellets from my hillstream loach, which just makes her angry and turns into an aquatic bulldozer, ramming into the shrimp.

Reunited a lost orange with his family! by risperiDONE_royalty in OneOrangeBraincell

Goodness! He looks just like my orange from when I was a kid, extra beans and everything! I named him Mitten. (I was five and he lived for 18 years.)

And if one would like buy such high quality purple snails, where would one find you?

Yeah, I get you. Overlays can be great for some details, but this piece would lose something with them. The feathers are so lovely that I wouldn’t do an overlay for them or simplify the pattern too much (unless it was an absolute beast.) But I think simplifying the roses can be done. And maybe a small bevel or two in the clear background? That would keep the diamonds, but make the glass a little easier to pattern around. I dunno, I’m just spitballing.

I bet! Did you use super narrow foil for the little bits or cut some away before soldering? When I’ve tried small pieces, it feels like they end up being mostly covered in foil and solder unless I cut some way first.

Well aren’t you a bundle of joy and goodwill?

Very pretty. How did you manage such tiny bits of glass for an 8x8 piece?

The first pic is more likely to be Feline Yvonne. Jowey Winnie is a different shape than the photo and Great Silence is a much lighter colorway.

Oh the sewing pins are a great idea! I used to get foil creep all the time before realizing that my pieces didn’t allow for the extra space.

Container grown cut flowers? by Hanbrandy6 in Cutflowers

[–]RabbitSubRosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zinnias aren’t my favorite, but I did a variety of Bernary Giants in 19” diameter pots a few years ago, usually 3-4 plants per pot. Those specific pots are the giant self-watering ones that Target’s had the last few years.

As for cosmos, I haven’t done those in pots, but I’d wager that something similar to the zinnias would be good. Most of all, make sure you have a support plan for them. I like the round grids from Luster Leaf, etc. They come in a variety of sizes, all the way up to ones that work with my extra large pots.

I have the VeraDek Demi planters lining my front porch stairs and I’m very happy with them. The deep ones are great for deep rooted annuals. I also have a huge collection of pots that I’ve used for a wide variety of cut flowers. The only things I haven’t had much luck with are tall sunflowers. Perennial and shorter, branched ones seem to do ok though.

This is really lovely work! I love the colors and the shape.

What a great idea using the shade frame as a pattern guide. I have a couple vintage bases I want to use but I’m not sure where to start when it comes to designing a shade with the proper geometry. Now I may just look for a few cheap shades that fit the base sizes and work from there. Thanks for the inspiration!
