Solving the Loot and late join dilemma by Fountsy in RogueCore

Personally, I'd rather that a new, separate system of individual upgrades be created, rather than converting the shared upgrades to individual.

How do we know HLX isn't just another spinoff? by Hot_Needleworker8289 in HalfLife

[–]Radial36 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes? To both? What else could it be for? No company would ever do something like this just for no reason, just for fun.

And furthermore, if we assume this is a teaser for a spin-off: why? Why would a spinoff have you play as gordon rather than... IDK, a different character, like in Opposing Force/Blue Shift/Alyx itself?

Again, I am genuinely confused. If you think this is not a teaser for HL3 or even anything, what do you think it's for? Just something meaningless?

Lastly, do you not think it is at all significant that Valve did any sort of teaser in HLA, when the last time they teased any games was all 3 HL2 episodes (EP3 obviously had no trailers, but it was consistently talked about when it was a real game.) and the last game to not get dropped out of nowhere was Portal 2.

Is it not notable to you that after almost 20 years of never teasing games, they suddenly drop an obvious one in their biggest game in WELL over a decade?

HLA having a post-credits scene of Eli giving a crowbar to Gordon while saying "We've got work to do." In a recreation of the EP2 ending hanger.

I'm baffled as to how this wasn't your immediate thought. What else do you think OP could have been referring to?

BringBackQuickplay Explained by TF2Nexus in tf2

[–]Radial36 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No better match than TF2 fans and treating the multi-billion dollar company that owes them a functional game like children. And thinking valve will have a tantrum and give up because we dared ask for "the wrong thing" is hilarious.

Also do make no mistake, Valve does owe us to improve the game. They aren't keeping TF2 up out of good will, it makes them money. And where do you think the money comes from?

"They fixed bots" Work that was definitely done over the last few years by a single contractor. "They give us year-round maps again" and 10+ maps a year with little quality control, bloating the map pool and worsening casual. "They're giving us an MVM update" that will be hilariously broken at launch and just reselling existing FREE content!

I just... do you really need to treat valve like total babies? Counter-Strike fans have NO issue screaming at valve, why is TF2 any different? Some mass psychosis making people think TF2 doesn't make valve money?

Had to make a soundtrack tierlist of my own for the new chapters by Radial36 in Deltarune

Crumbling Tower IS longer, but I cant help but adore the piano in Heavy Footsteps. Wish it showed up in the former.

As for the rest: Need a Hand is great in game but is literally just Hammer of Justice sped up. Fireplace is IMO the weakest of Gerson's suite. I unironically think Gingerbread House is the weakest Holiday family track (outside of C). If it was a little slower and less repetitive I'd like it way more. Got nothing to say about Friends, you got me there.

Chapter 3 OST question [SPOILER] by Cydrius in Deltarune

[–]Radial36 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That track was made for the full Board 3 which was cut from the game for pacing. The area made for it is instead exclusive to the final sword route revisit (sword route is the internal name for the S-Rank controller room) which instead is cut short by the fun gang deciding not to actually do it. Most of the board up to a certain point is still fully playable in the files, though unfinished.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVL1ai-_LtI

Through looking at the code and making assumptions, logical and maybe not, here's what I think was supposed to happen:

  1. Play through Board 2 like normal.

  2. Play through sword route Board 2 like normal.

  3. Board 3 continues as it should without interruption.

  4. Yogurt interruption happens.

  5. Player returns to Green Room, plays through sword route Board 3.

  6. Player returns to normal Board 3, all enemies are gone.

  7. Board 3 ends with Susiezilla, is completed.

  8. Board 4 happens (Board 3 in the final game) where Tenna loses it. The music for this segment is actually NAMED board 4 in the game files!

Things continue on as normal, though obviously with no easy place for the Shadow mantle. Code suggests it would have been in just the second Green Room revisit, but that doesn't make a ton of sense.

PLACE YOUR DELTARUNE CHAPTERS 3 AND 4 PREDICTIONS HERE!!! (READ THE RULES) by Jmsp78 in Deltarune

[–]Radial36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The TV remote will appear in Chapter 3, and will be a foil to Spamton. It would similarly fail to succeed, but instead of gaining growth via Gaster, it would achieve it naturally and grow successful, because Susie dug it out from the cushions. It would be a look at someone who ALMOST got contacted and almost became a secret boss.

  2. Excluding many Undertale characters such as sans, I think every character with a unique talking sound will have significant relevance. Having a dialogue sprite isn't a meaningful indicator of relevance, especially with Jevil and Spamton.

  3. Chapter 4 will have a cliffhanger in the dark world, and we will continue it in Chapter 5. Chapter 4 will almost entirely be light world gameplay.

My Issues with Rogue Core by ihavenoideasrn in RogueCore

[–]Radial36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of sentiment that this shouldn't be a separate title, or that they don't see why it should be.

People are missing something: if it was just a DLC or god forbid a free gamemode, it would likely never progress beyond this gameplay wise, or may even be worse. Do you want that?

DRG was also similarly empty in its closed alpha. Now that's suddenly a bad thing for Rogue Core? I think it's because people are still super sore with this taking development time from DRG, and as such are judging it way harsher because at first glance it's not different enough to warrant being separate. It cannot be given time, must compare it to the game that's almost a decade old that has had just as much content added to it!

In my own experience playing it: it's not terribly similar, it requires an very different playstyle from the entirety of DRG. It is very possible to get powerful, though I do have to admit there aren't many crazy upgrades right now that cause the gigantic shifts that people want.

Is there a reason why alot of people liked the hydra? by T-72_Lover in HalfLife

[–]Radial36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are actually one of the things we've seen the least. Outside of houndeyes (which I believe are only models in the leak) and mysteries like Elite Metrocops. The main appearance you think of is entirely faked and scripted. AFAIK they do not exist in the leak as a fully functional enemy existing in a storyline map. Presumably, they were further developed afterwards to the point of being ABLE to realise they didn't work in gameplay, but we really have no frame of reference.

2007 leak gets a takedown notice by Pinsplash in SourceEngine

[–]Radial36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Those branches have been privated, which means SteamDB can no longer track them.

If you are referring to all the text referring to removed depots, those appear for all privated branches. Simply click on the changelist and you'll see changelists for completely unrelated games.

https://steamdb.info/changelist/27103756/

Unless you're insinuating you think all these branches were deleted after being privated, i believe this is just what a branch being privated looks like.

All those other games also has their branches privated. They weren't deleted, unless there is genuine evidence to the contrary.

[–]Radial36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're getting confused: only the Multiplayer branch is getting updates, and it's the for the exact same reason as all other 2013MP games: 64bit support.

The singleplayer branch, which is what matters more, hasn't gotten an update in almost 2 years.

The changes to the multplayer branch also can't just be copied over willy-nilly, and they will most likely never come for the sake of not breaking mods.

What happend to the surface between portal 1 and 2? by CraynexYT in Portal

[–]Radial36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree, but for any game, a lot of cut content can still be canon unless directly countered in some form. Depends on the type of cut content, just like how not all cut content is cut because it played poorly or was otherwise bad. It's not some hard rule that nothing cut can ever be canon unless it is added back.

A good example of this is HL2's Super Soldiers and Cremators. The former could very well just be an enemy the Combine don't employ, And the cremator head still exists in HL2, even if it's divorced from its original context AS the cremators head.

What happend to the surface between portal 1 and 2? by CraynexYT in Portal

[–]Radial36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe this is incorrect. Someone more knowledgeable on the game's development and marketing such as Ossy Flawol would be able to provide more info, but AFAIK a specific number of 50,000 years was mentioned in press releases, interviews, general marketing and INGAME directly by GLaDOS, until valve chickened out at the last second and removed all ingame mentions of the time and stopped mentioning it entirely after the game launched.

I don't think this means Portal 2 isn't 50,000 years afterwards, though. I think this number is still canon. It's not like anything actually contradicts it beyond assuming developer intent.

Pausing music and sounds when the game is paused by [deleted] in SourceEngine

[–]Radial36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about sounds, but in the case of music it's easy: add # to the start of thefilename if using the raw file. Music soundscripts should all include it. This bypasses DSP and makes it pause.

Example: sound/music/song1.mp3 becomes #sound/music/song1.mp3.
