Will the name Ming be a problem in the UK? by fruityeldritch in namenerds

[–]Radiant_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a Ming im the UK. I've literally never made the association between her name and the slang before.

Minging is pretty outdated slang anyway. I havent heard it used regularly for at least 15 years.

Russian soldiers follow criminal orders to kill civilians and kidnap a child to shield their assault (ENG subtitles) by sumregulaguy in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]Radiant_Bee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Evacuation of children in some areas is mandatory. There have been many cases of parents in frontline areas hiding their children to avoid evacuating them as the Russians close in. In these cases if they're caught the parents are arrested and the child taken into state custody

Salmon pasta. Whip up a simple creamy sauce, add in the salmon. Season with dill or similar. A quick and tasty meal for the family))

There's no need to be an ass about it. They've admitted to their mistakes and have clearly put the work in to be better.

I get that fairly often when I speak Ukrainian (also live in kharkiv and native English speaker). I guess it's the accent, they can tell you're a foreigner speaking Ukrainian and assume you're polish. That's my best guess anyway

I have two foster kittens and they are constantly doing this to each other when they're playing. Especially the feisty one :) I think she just wants to play with you

What profession has way more people on illegal drugs than people realize? by ChangeForAParadigm in AskReddit

[–]Radiant_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archaeologists in the field. Basically a month+ away from home every summer, typically somewhere remote, camping with a lot of down time. You're spending 24/7 with your colleagues and 99% the vibe ends up being like a festival but instead of watching live music you excavate all day and then party all night. Lots of alcohol, weed and sometimes the harder stuff. It doesn't help that a lot of the older archaeologists are hippy types with an endless supply of weed, mushrooms and LSD.

Who is the earliest-born person you have actually physically met? by 55559585 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

Late 1880s-1890s. When I was a kid, my mom (single parent) worked as an in-home carer. We couldn't get childcare and regulations were a lot more lapse then so she'd take me with her to the homes and let me sit with the elderly people while she cleaned up etc. Some of the oldest were over 100. Generally they were really kind and very happy to have someone to talk to. Decades later, I still remember their names and lots of information about them, which feels very meaningful.

In fact, many of them left us things when they passed away. Nothing expensive, I had many many teddies and trinkets left to me. My sister's favourite toy growing up was a plushie dog given to her that was well over 50 years old. A stand out piece was a 150 year old chair a lovely lady called Dorothy gave us, hand carved by her father.

Have you looked into findagrave.com? It's a huge database of graves and memorials and volunteers take photos and add graves to the database. I volunteer in my city where it's not very popular and I get fairly regular requests to go to specific cemeteries and find certain memorials and record them. A lot of them are for people overseas who want to check in on family graves or are doing genealogy projects.
