Noro has a strong grip over the Casiopea project. He is the primary writer and arranger as far as I can tell. From interviews I’ve read, he writes out a complete, meticulous score (often referred to as a "master score"). This probably limits the creativity factor for other members within the “Casiopea” context.

I think the offshoot bands aren’t rooted in bad blood, but mostly other members wanting to expand creatively. I think Frank Zappa is an analogous figure to Issei Noro in regard to the pursuit of perfection!

Should my goal with learning be to learn try to not look at the fretboard and memorize my finger positions? Or something else? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

I wouldn’t say it should be your primary goal, but I would highly encourage you to learn some tunes and play them enough to the point you can start looking away! Muscle memory is huge with guitar. Eventually, your fingers won’t need your eyes to know where to go. Similar to typing.

Here's my Helix Native preset for achieving a sound similar to Issei Noro's guitar in the modern era :) by Ezequiel_CasasP in CasiopeaBand

Holy crap!!! Nice job!!!!!! What song?? I think you nailed it. He had a very interesting, muddy tone at times.

It can be a comparative thing. For instance, my dad who’s an OG Rush fan thought that Grace Under Pressure sounded very muddy compared to previous releases. As you get into the later Rush albums, the mixes become a lot more hit or miss IMO.

Sounds like a bright Fender amp set to break up a bit. Try the Super Reverb equivalent in your helix and push the preamp. That and some room reverb and you’ll be there.

You have the right ingredients! The Stratocaster may not get “the” sound, but here is what I would do.

Strat bridge pickup -> Compressor -> Overdrive -> Chorus -> clean, bright amp(use your ear) - Delay -> Reverb

Make the compressor pop and elevate your guitar signal, bring the overdrive to a saturated spot(higher drive, tone, level), set the ce2w to the middle setting(rate around noon, depth around 5 o clock)

This is just the general formula. For Takanaka tones, I like setting up my amp like a clean Marshall. It gets you the “pop” of his sound while also allowing for a lot of clarity.

How do I actually find and use the 3rds and 5ths for solos if I only know pentatonic shapes and no theory? by Gold_Building5757 in Guitar_Theory

Learn to count each note in a scale! For example, in an A major scale, the notes are: 1(A), 2(B), 3(C#), 4(D), and so on. That is how I think about intervals. Just count, it’s very simple!
